It’s the first proper cold night here in Kent. I was wondering if everyone turned the heating on already?
ive been thinking of buying electric blankets. Do they help? How do you use them?
Am I being unreasonable?

No heating on here.
No electric blankets.
It's not THAT cold.
How the F are people going to cope when it's actually REALLY cold? People need to get a grip!
It’s all relative though. Who are you to tell people they aren’t cold? A poorly insulated home in a rural area will have a very different temperature to one in a town or a well insulated house.

No heating yet but DD's room is quite cold generally so she had a blast of the electric blanket on her bed tonight. I have gone into my winter dressing gown and fleece socks as of yesterday evening. Will hold off putting the heating on until at least November if I can get away with it - I've got storage heaters and am dreading the cost.

Well clearly you live in a house with very good insulation. No need to be rude to those who do not.

I'm in the NE in one of those soulless boxy new builds so disparaged on MN and we're still at 22 degrees indoors even at 10.30 pm so all fine for now.
It is chilly outside though. In a bigger/older/less well insulated house I'd probably have the heating on.

No heating on here in the midlands. MIL bought us an electric blanket one Christmas, thought she was mad at the time but I bloody loved it. It went under the fitted sheet and had separate controls for each side so I could be toasty and DH could be cold! We moved and got a bigger bed so it doesn’t fit any more.

I live in a stone cottage and it's so cold at night already. It's 8° outside and only 12° inside. I bought teddy fleece bedding (duvet cover and fitted sheet) and am so warm in bed without heating or electric blanket on. When it drops colder I will put electric blanket on whilst I have a wash etc just to warm the bed up and turn it off once in bed. Try some bed socks, makes a massive difference!

I bought an electric throw during the summer. £35.
It's £70 now on Amazon.
I would still buy one.
I work at home during the day. I had the heating on all day through the winter last year. Maybe we do need to be a bit more aware about what we're doing anyway, with regard to climate change and all. Because, looking back, that was pretty ridiculous,
But an electric throw costs pennies.

In West Midlands and only time heating has been on so far is when moaning bf was cold the other morning and I put it on for a little bit one day before my elderly mother came round as she always feels cold. I don't generally use it until proper winter really.

No, the house is getting colder every evening but we're gonna hold off for another while. I've been using a heated throw when sitting on the couch, and we have an electric blanket on the bed too.
We just recently moved into this house and did briefly turn on the heating one evening last week just to check that everything was working - we ended up having to open windows to cool the place down to be able to comfortably sleep, so it's definitely not time for the heating to go on yet here...

Old house, drafty etc. Bought the kids an electric blanket each last month and was worried I'd been too extravagant ... Actually they've been used nearly every night over the past fortnight.. they switch them on an hour before bed and it's so toasty warm. They actually want to go to bed and read in the warmth!
I have one too and it's amazing
