To go to A&E? I’m desperate.

Early hours of Saturday morning (48 hours ago) I woke with the worst stomach cramps. I’ve been pooing liquid ever since, over 50 times a day. I can’t keep anything in. I haven’t been sick but I feel sick. It’s getting no better, the stomach cramps are indescribable, I can’t even lie down they’re so awful. I feel like death and I’m scared of dehydration. Do I call 111? Go to A&E? DH meant to be away in London for work tomorrow and I have 2 young kids by myself. I need help.

The fact that people would consider going to a&e for violent diarrea baffles me.

Have you read the whole thread? Where the OP said she was having severe blood loss in her diarrhoea? If she is getting no support from her DH and 11 didn't return her call, she can ask whoever she wants for help.

@Marvellousmadness seriously?

The fact that people can't spell diarrhoea with all of the modern technology they're using to be completely ignorant baffles me.

AtrociousCircumstance · 26/09/2022 15:40

Especially since loads of posters have written about their extreme reactions and need for weeks in hospital etc with similar issues.

But that poster remained totally baffled 🙄

Doesn’t It Always Run Really Horribly Over Each Ankle

Hope you are OK op

Retrievemysanity · 26/09/2022 15:44

Hope you’re ok OP. I was severely ill with salmonella years ago and some of the people I had been with who ate the same thing had to be hospitalised with dehydration. It can be horrific.

Icecreamandapplepie · 26/09/2022 15:44

I hope op is ok.

I will never understand anyone posting on a thread like this saying don't contact a and e.

Her symptoms sounded awful 😕

That is genius! You may have revolutionised my life, or at least my ability to write emails to my consultant (Crohns sufferer who can't spell). Smile

Died in a Rolls Royce having over eating apples

This is what I was taught many years ago on a first aid course 🤣

I use Dash In A Rush, Run Hard, Or Else Accident. (Without commas, of course.)

OP I hope you're either feeling better or being treated!

SpinCityBlue · 26/09/2022 16:12

Serious point, how would people manage the journey to and the wait in a packed A&E waiting room (say, 6 - 8 hours) if they had violent, explosive and extensive diarrhoea? As in, rivers of liquid shit. A diarrhoea-nami, as it were?

You're not going to be made to wait 8 hours if you're explosively shitting everywhere.

BirmaBrite · 26/09/2022 16:16

@Bytrgrewd thank you so much for that helpful tip Smile

There comes a point when you are feeling so ill that you really dont care so much any more, or are too weak to protest. Also, after 48 hours or so the volume has decreased even if the frequency hasn't.

Worse things can happen than shitting on yourself. What would you do instead, just stay at home until you collapse?

bellabasset · 26/09/2022 16:24

The problem with A&E is your frequent need for the toilet. I initially thought Nirovirus as we had that at work one year and people were very ill, also there is the need to keep the dcs away while you recover. Hope you've managed to get through to a sympathetic Dr at your surgery and are getting medication.

alexdgr8 · 26/09/2022 16:28

as it may be food poisoning, you should ring local council to report to environmental health.
hope you have got some medical help/advice by now too.
some posters on here do not seem to understand what a medical emergency might be. it is a separate category to trauma/accident/injury.
it can be life-threatening.
please, do not tell people not to go to A&E if you do not understand how dangerous a medical emergency can be.

WTDAS · 26/09/2022 16:29

Hope you have gotten some help OP.

Another (well, my husband) who only raw fed for a very short time and then ended up with awful shits.

We can't guarantee it was the food but it was a week after we started with the raw and seemed the most likely culprit.

kateluvscats · 26/09/2022 16:33

Please report back how you are getting on, I hope you managed to get seen by a doctor, you sound very unwell.

Letsbefriends · 26/09/2022 16:36

I would consider this to need emergency treatment, so A&E 100%. Unless your GP can refer you to hospital? But that would still involve A&E anyway

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 26/09/2022 16:40

Hope you have managed to seek some medical help OP and are feeling better soon.
