To go to A&E? I’m desperate.

Early hours of Saturday morning (48 hours ago) I woke with the worst stomach cramps. I’ve been pooing liquid ever since, over 50 times a day. I can’t keep anything in. I haven’t been sick but I feel sick. It’s getting no better, the stomach cramps are indescribable, I can’t even lie down they’re so awful. I feel like death and I’m scared of dehydration. Do I call 111? Go to A&E? DH meant to be away in London for work tomorrow and I have 2 young kids by myself. I need help.

Starsinyoureye13 we all write D&V no need to spell it 😀 Op son had this in Rome 3 years ago he lost 14 lbs but within 3to4 days of AB felt much better just refused to ecer eat salami again and kept.to a very bland diet for weeks. Hope you make the holiday just be careful what you eat. I probably don't need to say that though.

If you look on the NHS website it says that campylobacter can be infectious for up to 7 weeks. I think you would be wrong to go on a flight sharing toilet facilities with lots of other people.
the smell alone would be terrible in a tiny toilet.
Please do not be spectacularly selfish

I feel a bit better today, the most significant change has been in the frequency of the bowel movements and the intensity of the cramps. Steps in the right direction! A 3 hour flight tomorrow so not terrible. I have my tena lady pants packed.

Is this a joke. Please don't go. You have the letter for insurance.

I can't believe someone who has come on her for advice about how incredibly ill they are and has been so ill that they've gone to A&E with it thinks it's absolutely fine to go on a three hour flight.

Moderate chance you'll need to use the toilet by the sounds of it, moderate-high chance you'll pass this awful awful illness onto someone.

Do you really feel ok about that?

Drs give fit to fly notes saying that a patient is well enough to travel. I don't think the fit note has to cover the risk to other people?

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 01/10/2022 09:56

Your holiday involves getting a flight? If you are still going to the toilet frequently and likely to do so on a flight, for the love of god don't go, it's highly infectious. I know you dont want to let people down you're going with (could you join them when you're better?) but you're risking hospitalising a large number of people, in a foreign country. Seriously, please don't.

The same ones picking on me for not being able to spell words are the same ones wishing her a happy flight, but what do I know heh 😏
THANKS for your answer, someone with common sense

AS the OP’s history.

There isn’t an ailment she hasn’t dramatically started a thread on.

and this is just another.

went to a&e, had tests, updated mumsnet every step of the way how utterly shite and horrific it was, and then last post is a farewell as she heads off on a three hour flight wearing a pad with a contagious condition.

You might want to look into buying some good probiotic capsules OP to aid your recovery.

I know this thread has 'taken a turn' but ...

For anyone with guts in tatters, this is good advice. I've been through a rather unpleasant gut-based medical event, and I bought a pack of these capsules from good old Holland & Give-Us-Your-Wallet which I took for a month, and then moved on to kefir.

Kefir is a probiotic liquid that comes in a drink or a similar-to-yogurt form, and is lovely. The Yeo Valley one (plain, not fruit) has massively helped to 're-condition' my innards.

justmewithmylifetoday · 01/10/2022 12:10

@AutumnCrow seeing as this thread has derailed spectacularly anyway I have questions! I'm keen to get started on some sort of probiotic, I'm 7 months post partum and my bowels are all over the shop.

Is Kefir gentle? As in it doesn't just cause you to 'detox' and clear out as if were. Do you have it in the morning once a day?

I find kefir very gentle, yes. I have a few dessert spoons of it every day.

I developed IBS after I had an everything-out type hysterectomy. It was as if my gut components didn't know how to re-position themselves! Then I developed spinal damage from arthritis and all the painkillers I was on made it all worse especially the codeine (leading to IBS-C). Every medication I was given just led to a horror show of liquid poo. I have actual nightmares about the week I was on Linaclotide.

At one point I stopped eating, the pain was so bad. My blood tests started showing up deficiencies (sodium, potassium, B12, folates, you name it).

And then HURRAH 💥I discovered the low-FODMAP diet, and good old kefir. So today for breakfast I had a small mushroom omelette with kefir next to it like a kind of sauce. For lunch I might have some spinach (straight out of a can, like Popeye), and then something 'proper' for dinner like a stir-fry. If I eat bread it's proper real sourdough, toasted.

Physio (gentle pilates) helps my gut as well. I guess we just to take care of our guts more after childbirth / surgery / injury. The gut's linked to the brain, after all!
