To ask about the Blue Light Card?

NellesVilla · 25/09/2022 13:35

Hello!

Like many others I have a Blue Light card from work.

Have used it for days out, Kew Gardens etc etc all good.

Apparently I can get 10% off at Jo Malone in store and 20% online but wondered if this can be used to purchase the calendar online? It’s £350 (ffs!!) and I can’t believe they’d let you have £70 off (even though it’d still be v expensive?) Does anyone know?

Also, I’m sure everyone knew about this (apart from me, obvs!), but many shops like Halfords will not accept just the card. Instead they expect you download a frigging voucher first (although some places just nod at the card with id).

I've never had to download a voucher, I just show my card via the app.

20% discounts are not uncommon, I think the most I have had was 40%. The best bet is to download the app and search for the store you want. It will list the discounts there for you

I bought a laptop from curry's recently and had to buy a vouche from a third party, worth it though but felt very dodgy.

I use it all the time. I ask in all shops regardless of the company being listed on the app because not all of them are. Ive made great savings. Currently 10% off in Asda too

What a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a calendar...what's so great about it though?

10% off at Asda with the BLC too. We've saved many hundreds of pounds there using it!

I used mine online, I had to click to view a code on the app and enter it at the checkout online I could see the final price before buying. It was with Peacocks clothes shops a while back.

I can only see 10% off Jo Malone online, but it's really easy to get a code on the blc app. A £35 saving still sounds very good!

Just email the company and ask them they probably have more of an idea than people on here.

Some people have more money than others and funnily enough like different things. The most expensive ones I’ve bought were Swarovski ones for my 3 children, they had a piece of jewellery behind each window. Won’t say how much they cost because I don’t give a shiny shite about what other people think I should buy.
Op there can be some exceptions what you can buy in some shops (for example fuel/tobacco/alcohol in supermarkets), but I’d imagine you can get the full discount on calendars. You could potentially buy a couple grands worth of other stuff and still get the same discount 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh is it an advent calendar? I thought it was a bog standard jan-dec one.

I use the app to get money off pub meals, Sports Direct and Asda. Always good to get a bargain.

Asda discount is good but I have to go to the store and used to have deliveries.
The discount can be worse than the offers to the general public - we have paid for this card yet companies like Hotters never seem to have a discount worth using as it’s on full price items only.
Halfords have been good and let me show my card; Brewers we’re happy to see my card on the app and take down my number.
It has become a much bigger enterprise and is more open to fraud so I’m concerned that the offers will be less worth having.

I just think it's a bit crass as lots of posters are struggling to afford most things and op is worried about if she can get discount on something a bit ott

I'm thinking about getting a blue light card, but have struggled to find a list of companies off discounts - the Blue Light Card website doesn't seem to list them for non-members. From a list I saw on another site I wouldn't actually use it very often.

For those who do have one, where do you use it?

Totally agree, I mean, come on, put it in the basket and see if you get the discount or not. Basic stealth bragging on MN again!

Hi @Ihatethenewlook and @silverclock222! Thanks so much for your helpful contributions but…I most certainly do not have endless money to waste on treats, nor am I stealth bragging ffs! Where the heck do you get that from?

FYI, this time last year I was living in my car as I couldn’t afford market rents in my area. Now I’m in a better position because I work hard in a slightly better role than last year, I go without other things (I don’t smoke, drink or go out). I also don’t have children I can’t afford. I also don’t eat meat.

Additionally, if I had chosen to buy this calendar (which I’ve now decided against as I don’t like half the contents) I’d be doing it with my hard-earned money, not a penny of which comes from any benefits at all.

Please educate yourselves, and as the vipers would say: did you mean to be so rude?! ☮️
