To ask about the Blue Light Card?

Hello!

Like many others I have a Blue Light card from work.

Have used it for days out, Kew Gardens etc etc all good.

Apparently I can get 10% off at Jo Malone in store and 20% online but wondered if this can be used to purchase the calendar online? It’s £350 (ffs!!) and I can’t believe they’d let you have £70 off (even though it’d still be v expensive?) Does anyone know?

Also, I’m sure everyone knew about this (apart from me, obvs!), but many shops like Halfords will not accept just the card. Instead they expect you download a frigging voucher first (although some places just nod at the card with id).

Hi @Ihatethenewlook and @silverclock222! Thanks so much for your helpful contributions but…I most certainly do not have endless money to waste on treats, nor am I stealth bragging ffs! Where the heck do you get that from?

FYI, this time last year I was living in my car as I couldn’t afford market rents in my area. Now I’m in a better position because I work hard in a slightly better role than last year, I go without other things (I don’t smoke, drink or go out). I also don’t have children I can’t afford. I also don’t eat meat.

Additionally, if I had chosen to buy this calendar (which I’ve now decided against as I don’t like half the contents) I’d be doing it with my hard-earned money, not a penny of which comes from any benefits at all.

Please educate yourselves, and as the vipers would say: did you mean to be so rude?! ☮️

You quoted the wrong person. My first comment was merely interest as to what was great about this calendar as I thought it was just a run of the mill jan-dec one. Then as a pp said something about it I then thought ah it must be one of those expensive advent calendars.

Of course you have every right to spend your money on whatever you like and I'm glad your situations have gotten better 🙂
I just thought it was crass to worry about it when other posters are struggling with affording even the basic of items.
I didn't intend to be a 'viper' or 'rude'. Like yourself I'm allowed an opinion on a public forum as are you. So we will agree to disagree with each other on this :)

I'm thinking about getting a blue light card, but have struggled to find a list of companies off discounts - the Blue Light Card website doesn't seem to list them for non-members. From a list I saw on another site I wouldn't actually use it very often.

For those who do have one, where do you use it?

It costs £5.99 for 2 years.
This week we've used it to get £20 off at Haven, Greene King and Asda. The list gets updated so you need the app to keep up to date. Like other folks we don't tend to buy big ticket items but it's saved us more than it cost.

Sorry to jump on this thread but I'm hoping someone will know the answer given we're all BLC holders!

Mine is up for renewal at the end of the month. The BLC website says they will email 30 days before renewal. They haven't. I have done what the FAQs say and have logged in online (on the website, not the app) and gone to the Account and Card section but there is nowhere there to renew a card (like the FAQs tell you). All I can see that I can do is to report my card as lost and then I pay for another. I emailed them but they haven't replied....

If I go down the replacement card route I don't want a replacement card to replicate my original expiry date (although I'd hope it wouldn't if I'm paying again). The only other thought I had was to apply online as if I was a new applicant and not log into my account at all. Haven't tried this yet.

Any ideas please? How have you updated your card once expired? It's annoyingly frustrating!

Mine was due to expire at the end of September and I got the renewal email on 1st September. New card arrived in the post (and on the app) 2 weeks later.

I’d wait a bit longer. They’re really backlogged at the moment apparently!

Thanks for answering, ArnoldBee. I never, ever use any of the companies I've seen listed anywhere, or any mentioned on this thread, but really would like to save some money!

The most expensive ones I’ve bought were Swarovski ones for my 3 children, they had a piece of jewellery behind each window.

£630 each in 2022 <faints>

What a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a calendar...what's so great about it though?

Comments like this are irritating. People can spend their money how they want FFS

Excellent response. Glad to see you’ve managed to improve your circumstances. There is a real trend of, if I can’t afford it no one should have it atm.

ASDA is in store only and they will ask for ID for the person whose card it is. There has been too much misuse of the card so clamping down
