That's a Noble False Widow. I really wouldn't handle it. False Widows tend to lurk lower down whereas Nobles like to be higher up like above doorways where they are much more likely to drop down the back of your neck. Some people have really dangerous reactions to their venom.

Has anyone actually been bitten by one before? We get them in the bathroom quite often. I rather like them and their patterned bums.

As far as I know, reactions to false widows is allergic, as in some get bitten and are fine, don't even notice, and others end up on the fourth page of the Sun.

We have loads.

The problem is you wont know if you are one of the people who react to the venom until you get bitten. Personally I wouldn't really want to find out.

Yes, they look grim but so do any bites when you have an allergic response or they get infected!

I was bitten by a spider, it got infected. I still have a scar and it took out a golf ball size of muscle on my left calf.

I was surprised how ill I was, it took a couple of weeks to get back to 'normal'.

I have. It hurt like sharp in take of breath, but done hurt, like a wasp sting. But no allergic reaction. Most people aren’t and don’t have a reaction. They’ve been here since Victorian times.
