Is this a false widow???

What..the feck.. IS that? Get rid of it.. burn the house down..

I wouldn’t want to pick that up. I’ve seen a few like that and wondered if they were false widows so now I know. I don’t mind spiders generally but wouldn’t pick up a false widow.

They’re not venomous or deadly,
they’re cute little things! People can get unlucky with all sorts of insects bites whether it’s spider, horsefly, mosquito or whatever. They just have a worse reputation as people equate them with black widows spiders.

If you’re not a fan of them, get more cellar spiders in your house (the ones with thin bodies and skinny spindley legs) I’ve seen cellar spiders take down false windows in seconds. They’re kind of the teenage boys of the spider world, they eat anything and everything!

A lot of people who post a false widow spider are actually seeing a hutch spider, but I think you have the real deal! Most people have little effect from a nip, though I’d definitely be putting it outside!

Thats definitely a glass widow and due to the size I’d say it’s a female and those are the pens that can give you the nasty bite! Our old house was full of them!

I don't think saying it's only people who are allergic will get a nasty bite is true.

I read recently that due to so many people needing medical support

After a bite that they are looking into the venom again.
They think it's evolved and it's a nastier bite than previously thought.so be careful.

Anecdotal yes but I know 4 people bitten and all needed anti biotics.
