AIBU?
To regret this outfit choice?
LittleMyIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/09/2022 06:31
I'm attending a wedding today so am leaving it late to ask this but was already having doubts and I just read another thread about wedding guest outfits so wanted to check. It's quite a casual wedding, at a small hotel but ceremony in the garden, finger buffet etc. Instructions for clothes was "not that smart, smart casual ish" but this was passed on from brides sister so not sure if reliability!
I'm wearing a skirt very like the one below (couldn't find the actual one online) but with sort of rustic village houses rather than city buildings on, with a coordinated plain top and matching heels. I intended to get a 'normal' wedding guest dress but tried the skirt on in a local shop and fell in love, started having the regret later.
I'm worried it's too off the wall and not 'guesty' enough and at the same time too smart and I'll look like I'm trying too hard if everyone else is more casual. I know it's the 11th hour to be asking opinions but at least I'll be either reassured or can go looking apologetic at my rubbish outfit choice!

Am I being unreasonable?

Forgot to say I'm also very close to 40 so worried I'll look 'muttony' as they say.

Sounds so nice! I think you will look just right. Try and feel ok in yourself and I hope you have a great time.

It sounds fine to me, smart casual. It’s not a very youthful style unless you’ve got your midriff out, it won’t look muttonish.

Lovely LindyBop skirt! I think it will be great. Enjoy the wedding.

Thanks, that particular one is on Amazon if you like it, my actual one is from a local indie shop and the name on it doesn't seem to have a website when I've searched.

I love it too! Would also go great with flats or trainers for dancing ...
LittleMyIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/09/2022 06:36
Thankyou all so much, it's not too 'young' for an almost 40 then?
Mollymalone123 · 24/09/2022 06:36
I love it.! With your top and heels etc it’ll look great

Brill, thankyou! No midriff out at all, I'd scare people 😁

It looks lovely and I think you will too. Seems very appropriate from the brief you've been given.
PuddlesOnFire · 24/09/2022 06:40
And yes it looks like a really good fit for your age. You've got taste.
LittleMyIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/09/2022 06:40
Phew, sounds like it's ok 😅Thankyou all for the lovely comments.

That's a massive relief considering I virtually live in joggers (WFH not being good for the style influences!), thankyou!

I think it's totally appropriate...... however, you're having doubts so won't feel comfortable.....
coldfeetmama · 24/09/2022 06:44
I like it too ! Spray your fav perfume , smack those lips and enjoy the day !
Movinghouseatlast · 24/09/2022 06:46
That fits the brief perfectly. It's lovely and not mutton at all.

A bit too loud for me... but hey, you're wearing it !
