To regret this outfit choice?

I'm attending a wedding today so am leaving it late to ask this but was already having doubts and I just read another thread about wedding guest outfits so wanted to check. It's quite a casual wedding, at a small hotel but ceremony in the garden, finger buffet etc. Instructions for clothes was "not that smart, smart casual ish" but this was passed on from brides sister so not sure if reliability!

I'm wearing a skirt very like the one below (couldn't find the actual one online) but with sort of rustic village houses rather than city buildings on, with a coordinated plain top and matching heels. I intended to get a 'normal' wedding guest dress but tried the skirt on in a local shop and fell in love, started having the regret later.

I'm worried it's too off the wall and not 'guesty' enough and at the same time too smart and I'll look like I'm trying too hard if everyone else is more casual. I know it's the 11th hour to be asking opinions but at least I'll be either reassured or can go looking apologetic at my rubbish outfit choice!

To regret this outfit choice?

I really dont understand this comment sorry can you explain it may help me and others in the future.

Love the skirt and outfit sounds perfect. Have a lovely day.

The style of the invite is the first clue to the vibe of the wedding. Chosen venue is also a huge clue as to dress code.

If it’s a formal invitation printed on heavy good quality card, professionally printed, calligraphy etc, 5* hotel or cathedral, I’d pick a different outfit.

If it’s a handmade invite, village hall reception, it’ll likely be a more laid back wedding. Skirt would be fine.

obviously that’s 2 extremes but you get the idea.

@OP when you look at the vote figures, I think you need to think that many people will have made the same mistake I did when I clicked "you are not being unreasonable". I then reread what you'd with and realised this meant I thought you were not being unreasonable to regret your choice which isn't what I meant at all.

Tldr: read the comments and ignore the vote as people are probably getting confused like I did.

I do like the skirt but it definitely doesnt scream wedding to me. However I appear very much to be in the minority so go forth and enjoy, I'm sure you will look fantastic

And yes it looks like a really good fit for your age. You've got taste.

Seriously, what the jeff does this mean?

And I hadn’t realised we were still using the meat terminology on this board … Hmm

I hope you had a great time, OP and I’m sure you looked lovely. But are you honestly going to be Uriah Heeping your way around clothes for the next 60 years? Why not just wear what you like the look of in the mirror?

Nottodaty · 24/09/2022 16:58

Hope you wore the outfit! I wore a similar styled skirt and top to a wedding recently- I even wore pink toms as I’ve long ago stopped wearing heels - had my hair nice and make up on. I didn’t feel under dressed at all & my feet didn’t hurt :)

I'm not sure at all what you mean. Is saying that someone has good taste now something that has negative connotations? If so, I'm afraid I didn't get the memo on that one and this is the first I've ever heard about it. No one seems to have told the compilers of the various online dictionaries either as they seem to think it means the same as I do.

If you mean the "fit for your age" phrase, then that's in response to the OP worrying that she might look like she was wearing something too young for her age.

The OP thanked me for my comments, so I'm not really sure who you're getting offended for nor why.

Love it you'll look ace and so original

Actually, forget I asked. I've just looked up what Uriah Heeping means and it looks like your just not a very nice person, so I can see where the issue lies and it's not worth me.

CountryCousin · 24/09/2022 17:32

Yup! Grin I’m a horrible person for wishing women weren’t persuaded that they have to apologise for wearing nice clothes at any age over 30 - perhaps the remaining 50 or 60 years of adulthood, if one is lucky.

Is that really not an appalling thought?

CookPassBabtridge · 25/09/2022 08:57

I LOVE it 🖤 But I'm sad when people ask if something is too young, If it makes you happy, wear it.. I don't let age stop me.

I love it. Most of my wardrobe is Lindy Bop
