As far as I can figure, these are the Trump court dates and 2024 election important dates. The date for trial in GA election case hasn't been set yet, pending the arraignment. All subject to change & any additional charges, of course. And my apologies for errors and omissions!

My understanding is that Doofus does NOT have to appear in any civil trial, but his appearance will be mandatory for all criminal proceedings.

2023

September 6 - GA election interference case arraignment date

October 2 - NY state civil fraud case trial begins against Trump, his oldest children and his companies.

2024

January 15 – E. Jean Carroll civil defamation trial begins; Iowa caucuses

January 23 – Possible New Hampshire primary

February 8 – Nevada caucuses

February 24 – South Carolina primary

February 27 – Possible Michigan primary

March 2 – Possible Michigan caucuses; Idaho caucuses

March 3 – DC party-run primary

March 4 – Federal trial on 2020 election criminal charges begins; North Dakota caucuses

March 5 (Super Tuesday) – Primaries in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah caucuses, primaries in Vermont, Virginia

March 12 – Primary in Georgia, Hawaii caucuses, primaries in Mississippi, Washington

March 19 – Primaries in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Ohio

March 23 – Primary in Louisiana

March 25 – Trump’s criminal trial in New York related to hush-money payments in 2016 begins

April 2 – Primaries in Delaware, potentially New York, Rhode Island, Wisconsin

April 23 – Primary in Pennsylvania

April 30 – Primary in Connecticut

May 7 – Primary in Indiana

May 14 – Primaries in Maryland, Nebraska, West Virginia

May 20 – Criminal trial in classified documents case begins

Grin

Even better "Sorry he can't come and address you all at the rally; he's in prison for the next 18 months*". I know, highly unlikely any time soon. But a girl can dream, can't she?

*The charges may carry much longer statutory sentences, but I honestly can't see him serving more than that, if he serves any time at all.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/08/2023 15:30

Isn't it the case that if he is found guilty on any of the charges in Georgia they all carry mandatory prison terms, with no options for anything except prison, or have I misunderstood that?

Oh, and that even if there is a Republican president next time, that can't just give him a pardon, in Georgia? It would have to be Kemp, who most likely wouldn't because he thinks Trump is guilty?

No pardon for the GA charges, a POTUS can only pardon in federal cases. Even if Meadows et al get their cases moved to a federal court it is still in the end a state conviction not a federal one, so not eligible for a federal (POTUS) pardon.

In GA the Gov doesn't have pardon power, only the parole board does. This goes back to a change in the GA constitution in 1940 when the Gov was (apparently) selling pardons. However, guess who appoints the members of the parole board? Yep, the Gov.

As far as mandatory jail time, Fani Willis made a statement that 'this is not about jail time'. People are speculating that this means anything from 'don't expect long prison terms' for any/all the defendants to some form of home detention for Doofus due to the 'difficulties' in incarcerating someone who is entitled to Secret Service protection. SS protection could end up meaning agents having to spend 24/7 in whatever prison Doofus ended up in. And that's not going to happen, the SS (and their union) wouldn't stand for it.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/08/2023 18:15

Can the judge just decide to ignore a mandatory sentencing guide? I don't think they can, here.

They can't ignore it in the state I live in. But each state has different laws. I'd assume that mandatory means mandatory in GA but this is such an extraordinary situation that all bets are off. Who really knows what's going to end up happening. I think it might come down to the definition of 'incarceration' in the state of GA. Is it actually prison only or is there even a teensy bit of 'wiggle room'?

What I've heard the pundits discussing is the impossible logistics of incarcerating Doofus in an actual prison. He's not going to waive the aforementioned SS protection and 'go quietly'. So what can they do? Build him a separate prison with facilities for the SS agents? Keep him in Ad Seg? Even in Ad Seg he'd be entitled to have SS agents with him. A separate 'secured' monitored location either in GA or at one of his properties with him not being allowed to wander about? One of the pundits opined that if they aren't able to find something both secure and suitable, that he'd escape prison altogether under the 8th Amendment.

Granted, 'home detention' at fucking MarALago or Bedminster would be my idea of a 'luxury holiday' (lol) unless it included the same restrictions a regular prison has (ie staying in one or two rooms under lock and key). I'm sure that'd be hell on Earth to Doofus. Imagine being in his own kingdom and being confined to a small area, not free to stroll around and bask in the adulation of sycophants.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/08/2023 21:18

What I mainly want is for him to be denied access to any a computer or phone. It would be so lovely and peaceful if he were unable to post to social media, and were not interviewed all the blasted time.

Yep, I'd prefer him on strict house arrest at Bedminster, indoors only. So he can see the Golf course but not play.
And no Internet access.
I don't care if his toilet is a gold seat or is made of stainless steel. Just as long as we never hear or see him again.

I think being invisible and irrelevant would be Trump's idea of hell.

Can't the Secret Service guard Trump in prison in shifts?

I suppose theoretically they could. But would the prison want to allow them to keep their weapons in order to do so? I don't think the prison officials would want them patrolling the area around Doofus' 'accommodations' (because he is not going to be in the general population) armed, so they'd probably want a prison guard to accompany them and how would that work and who is going to pay for it?

IIRC a SS agent on POTUS duty can request to be reassigned, it's not mandatory service. I wonder how many agents would volunteer to spend even 8 hours a day in a prison with Doofus. And they work rotating shifts so some of those shifts are going to be swing and some graveyard.

We really are in uncharted territory aren't we? And all over one man who is actually unworthy of any bother at all.

BruceAndNosh · 31/08/2023 07:22

I know it feels unfair, but I can't see him ever serving time in a conventional prison. @AcrossthePond55 's point about SS weapons inside a prison is a good one.
Just duct tape his mouth closed and tie his thumbs together

But also, what is a ginger mint? Obviously some kind of American sweet candy, about the size of a memory stick, but I have never heard of such a thing before.

@BruceAndNosh

Moss & Freeman 1, Giuliani a big fat 0. Which I hope is his bank balance when all this shit is over. His financial woes are by no means over, though. The other 2 defamation suits are plaintiffs with deep pockets, Smartmatic and Dominion. What's amazing to me is that what with Doofus' (par for the course) refusing to pay/contribute to Rudy's legal fees that Rudy is still showing his 'loyalty' by refusing to turn state's evidence. Although what 'dirty deals' may be going on behind the scenes, nobody knows. But I doubt it. Doofus isn't known for showing his 'loyalty' to anyone but himself.

And speaking of 'loyalty'....where is Melania?

https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/15/politics/giuliani-money-lawsuits-trump/index.html

PS. I pretty much agree with you on Doofus' chances of time in an actual prison. But maybe they'll stick him in a double wide on the prison grounds like they do parolees who can't find a community willing to accept them or have been deemed too dangerous to release into society. But in his case it'd have to be surrounded by a 10ft razor wired topped fence. Doofus as 'trailer trash', that will be justice I can live with.

Rudy Giuliani is staring down hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal bills and sanctions amid numerous lawsuits in addition to the new criminal charges – related to his work for Donald Trump after the 2020 election.

Ginger mints are delicious! My favourite is Chimes Ginger Mango Chews because they're, well, chewy. But they come as anything from a chew about the size of a boiled sweet to a something that looks like a tablet that sort of melts in your mouth. They're 'hot' like ginger root but with sugar for sweetness.

I first got them to help with nausea, but decided I just like them.

iHerb has Chimes online, but I don't know if that is a reputable UK site. GinGin brand is good too and is on Amazon UK.

Now I'm going to have to run to the shop later!

The upcoming second E Jean Carroll suit against Trump starting January will only be to decide damages. The judge has decided that the first trial found Trump liable and the second Jury does not need to reconsider it.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/06/e-jean-carroll-trump-trial-damages

Trump has been unusually silent since this was announced. His lawyers have obviously made him finally understand that she will just keep suing him!
But eventually some journalist will ask Trump about it, so what does he say? Plead the 5th?

Major blow to Trump as judge limits second E Jean Carroll trial to damages

Lewis Kaplan says jury in first trial has ‘decided issues common to both cases’ and that second trial will only concern damages

This ruling in the E Jean Carroll case is interesting. It seems to me that every time now, that Trumpy calls her a liar or maligns her... bingo another $million damages to her. I admire her for not giving up against all odds. She gets death threats now. The courts are saying 'Nope, we've discussed this and made a ruling and we're not going over all this again'.

Good day for justice yesterday

  • E. Jean Carroll wins a summary judgement against Trump
  • Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell get smacked down by Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee.
  • Jack Smith gets Yuscil Taveras to flip and testify against Trump for stashing stolen war plans
AcrossthePond55 · 07/09/2023 16:12

I think the E Jean Carroll 'thing' is an example of Doofus' absolute inability to accept that he doesn't always 'get his way'. Especially if it's a woman. It simply 'does not compute' in his little pea brain. But go head on, Doofus, we need the amusement.

As much as I hate seeing his face, it's one of the reasons I'm going to watch the trial. Part of me will be watching for his 'gurning' and hoping against hope he loses it at some point. I have a feeling that his legal team will be hoping against hope he agrees to being sedated lol.

I think I'm going to publish a picture book entitled 'Where's Melania?'. Except instead of a bobble hat and striped t-shirt, she'll be wearing a white 'chapeau' (she's very fond of white hats, you know) and a jacket that says 'I don't care, do u?".

Presumably Meadows will appeal but good news. We're getting there.

Meadows’s defeat compounds his legal difficulties in Fulton county because his value as a cooperating witness has now diminished, legal experts said. The ruling is also ominous for Trump, who is seen as having a weaker case for removal compared to his former chief of staff.

Meadows - as predicted - has appealled removal rejection.

I have confidence in the strength of Georgia and Smith cases but do worry if they end up being appealled with Trump's Supreme Court...
