She's the eldest child. The law has changed now.
Even Zara Philips is behind her little brother in line to the throne. Wtf.

Anyway, OP, you've misunderstood, and been corrected.
Bear in mind that people don't read the whole thread so will continue to correct you, so ask MN to delete?

Charles is the eldest. Check your facts before posting!!

Aprilx · 18/09/2022 13:02

SoupDragon · 18/09/2022 11:24

That's not entirely true as it was backdated to 28th October 2011 in the Succession to the Crown Act 2013.

In determining the succession to the Crown, the gender of a person born after 28 October 2011 does not give that person, or that person’s descendants, precedence over any other person (whenever born).

How does that make the previous posters statement not true? James and Louise were both born before that date.

BaileySharp · 18/09/2022 13:06

I do think she'd make the best royal put of her siblings but she is younger than Charles and until Prince George was about to be born male heirs took priority over female ones so she's behind her younger brothers (it would be complicated to change retrospectively I guess?).

Given that the Queen was 'in post ' for 70 + years and did a fab job I find it bizarre that it took so long for the line of succession to be changed. She seems to have been considerably better than alot of the men who preceded her.

PinkArt · 18/09/2022 13:22

Those surprised that the rules didn't change before William was born might be forgetting quite how archaic the institution still was then. Wasn't it always heavily suggested that teenage Diana was mainly pushed as a suitable wife for 30 something Charles as she was a virgin.
It may still be incredibly old fashioned and steeped in many outdated protocols but it's progressed a lot in the last few decades!

But how do we know she did a fab job if we have nothing in modern times to compare with?

difference between an Heir Apparent and an Heir Presumptive

Heir apparent - it's not possible for anyone to come between this person and the throne. E.g. William.
Heir presumptive - will inherit as things stand but it could change. Elizabeth II was only ever heir presumptive because in theory her parents could have had a third, male child who, by the rules of the time, would have come before her.

Thank you, I was indeed misremembering. My mother would not have made that mistake!

Quartz2208 · 18/09/2022 16:58

Princess VIctoria (who indeed is the last time) is an interesting one given that she became Queen/EMpress of Prussia/Germany and mother of Kaiser Wilhelm who was in charge of Germany in the First World War. So much would potentially be different!

Queen Victoria herself became Queen as she was literally the only legitimate heir of all the children of GEorge III following the death of the only daughter of GEorge IV

Yeah, God forbid a thread should be based on actual facts rather than something plucked out of thin air. Those pesky facts getting in the way of a good froth!

FatAnneTheDealer · 20/09/2022 04:27

Of course Anne is the oldest. I only voted “you are being unreasonable” because it was unreasonable that you didn’t know until today that she was inevitably passed over by her younger brother until the law changed. So Charles gets to be king. And since Charles only had sons, William gets to be king. And since William’s first child was a boy, George gets to be king. The first time the law will come into effect in practice is if George has a girl first.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 20/09/2022 04:45

Of course Anne is the oldest.

Oh dear.

FatAnneTheDealer · 20/09/2022 06:29

Yep, I got that wrong. Charles is the oldest. Apologies.

ChagSameachDoreen · 20/09/2022 06:44

The phrase "today years old" makes you seem even dafter.

Do you not think she may have got the message during the first 9 pages of the thread? 🙄 she even said way back that she realises she was wrong but yet people insist on repeating “you’re wrong!” … Christ, how pointless

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 20/09/2022 07:53

Well you keep coming back banging the same drum - isn’t that just as pointless?

InPraiseOfBacchus · 20/09/2022 07:57

PuttingDownRoots · 18/09/2022 07:31

She "should" be after Lilibet in the Line of sucession. But the removal of male superiority only applies to Georges generation onwards (hence Viscount Severn above his elder sister).

Please, as a nation, can we stop with "Lilibet"?

dry heave

PuttingDownRoots · 20/09/2022 08:00

@InPraiseOfBacchus Lilibet is the given name of Harry's younger child. Whether you like the name or not, that is a fact.

What name do you think "we" should use in place of the given name chosen by her parents?

I’m banging the same drum in response to people who can’t wait to give the OP another kick in the shin. It’s bullying behaviour.

Well they did also announce that she would be known as Lili, so perhaps we should go with that

Or, we could use her given name.

RoseAndRose · 21/09/2022 14:44

Well we could, but isn't it better to go with the name that the parents have expressly said will be the 'known by' name (see oodles of threads passim, usually about MILs, who don't follow parents' clearly stated preferences)
