She's the eldest child. The law has changed now.
Even Zara Philips is behind her little brother in line to the throne. Wtf.

Many people would have welcomed Anne as Queen. Had Charles abdicated before he married Andrew would have been next in line.

Yes, men trump women in succession. The monarchy is an archaic and sexist institution. Who knew?!

But are you not more annoyed about having a non democratically elected head of state?! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

No, they don’t, so you’re wrong. If George’s eldest child is a girl she will become Queen.

Henry VIII was so obsessed with a male heir… well, hopefully you know the rest.

The point being that even though females could technically inherit the throne of England, they were seen as lesser. A female heir was an unknown quantity. A realm was perceived as unsafe and in greater danger of invasion without a King in charge.

Mary I was the first crowned Queen of England in 1553 after her brother’s death, but it was unusual and unprecedented.

Ah yes, I do know the consequences of his obsession with wanting a son. I just thought it was because he wanted a son to carry his name on though 😂 Royalty was never my strongest topic but I’m learning a lot from recent events which is good. It’s actually quite interesting isn’t it.

Erm I can count. Admitted mistake earlier in thread. It's lady Louise and her little brother that are the wrong way round in the line to the throne.

Don’t worry OP, some people just like to stick the boot in rather than discuss. I’m finding your thread interesting and I don’t get the need for people to be horrible about a simple mistake - it’s still an interesting topic.

Has anyone worked out when was the last time a woman was the eldest sibling but got passed over in favour of a younger brother? Must be a couple of hundred years?

TheKingsInk · 18/09/2022 10:30

its like saying the state pension age has gone up to 70 so all those who retired when the age was 65 who are younger than 70 should go back work. The law change going forward not going back.

Charles will be amazing

TheKingsInk · 18/09/2022 10:33

And as the eldest it’s his destiny

It would have been Queen Victoria's first child Princess Victoria, her younger brother Prince Albert became Edward VII

Suedomin · 18/09/2022 10:36

You are being unreasonable because she isn't the eldest. You are not being unreasonable to think she could come before Andrew and Edward though

Although Princess Victoria died a few months before her mother so maybe that wouldn't count 😂

Testina · 18/09/2022 10:38

🤣 well that was a fuck up!

Seraphina1993 · 18/09/2022 10:34

Another occasion was Charles I, who had two older sisters. He also had an older brother, Henry, who was James I's first born child, but he predeceased his father, so the succession skipped Charles's surviving sister (one of them died in infancy) to make Charles king.

Heathershimmerwasmyshade · 18/09/2022 10:39

Fecks sake, take a chill pill. The opp made a mistake.

bloodyunicorns · 18/09/2022 10:41

Oh my god. Have people completely lost the lack of any critical thinking or any ability to Google the simplest facts? Does nobody know even the simplest facts about our country's history??

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 18/09/2022 10:41

Antarcticant · 18/09/2022 08:26

difference between an Heir Apparent and an Heir Presumptive

Heir apparent - it's not possible for anyone to come between this person and the throne. E.g. William.
Heir presumptive - will inherit as things stand but it could change. Elizabeth II was only ever heir presumptive because in theory her parents could have had a third, male child who, by the rules of the time, would have come before her.

The change to the male primogeniture rule in 2011 means we could now have a female Heir Apparent for the first time. It’s never been possible before, because as @Antarcticant says, there has always been a theoretical younger brother who would displace the Heir Presumptive.

The next time we could have an Heir Presumptive in this country is if George comes to the throne whilst childless, in which case Charlotte would be Heir Presumptive. However, her status couldn’t change on the basis of gender, but according to seniority.

ChannelLightVessel · 18/09/2022 10:42

And Princess Vicky’s oldest child was .. Kaiser Bill (Wilhelm II). Some interesting alternative history there, though I suppose if she had been the heir apparent she would have married someone different.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 18/09/2022 10:47

The important date is 28th October 2011. If we were Royal my son (born 2013) would not displace my daughter (2010).

An interesting one is that presumably if Edward and Sophie had had a surprise late 40s baby in, say 2012 and that baby had been a boy then the order of their kids would be James, Louise, Baby Boy. Which is very strange indeed.

Another interesting one is Lucas Tindell. He is far down the list because his Royal grandparent was a woman. And then even further down the list because he is behind his older sisters. Presumably his parents’ plan for him is to either ride horses for GB or play Rugby for England so he’d probably struggle to fit being King in anyway though. 😂

lljkk · 18/09/2022 10:48

5 of Henry 8th wives never would have happened if he wasn't so obsessed with having a direct male descendent heir. Or if his illegit but acknowledged son hadn't pre-deceased him.

Prescottdanni123 · 18/09/2022 10:52

Louise and James aren't the wrong way around though because they were born while the rule stating that male heirs come before girls was still in place. It is only applied to those born after the rule was changed.

None of that is correct but you're mainly being unreasonable for the use of 'today years old'

HTH

This. I hate this phrase. It just makes people sound stupid. And Charles is the eldest as already stated

Before posting something like that, at least just use Google first!

Yep

MyLovelyPen · 18/09/2022 11:02

@TheKingsInk charles will be amazing?

Based on what evidence?

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 18/09/2022 11:15

Although Princess Victoria died a few months before her mother so maybe that wouldn't count

No she didn't, she died 7 months later. So she must be the most recent woman to be passed over to be queen in favour of a younger brother.
