The Queen's passing is sad and seismic and the funeral will be a special occasion.

However, people genuinely seem to have gone mad.

Oh ................. and why have we no money to pay those striking for a legitimate cost of living pay rise?............yet can put billions into this

Or, not to exaggerate, something less than ten million; probably a little more than that of Diana Spencer.

Boris's Garden Bridge cost us £43m, and we got nothing at all for that.

I'm not hysterical Scottish.

😄😄😄. Snap!

As far as I am concened all are all people in the queue are potential covid spreaders. It only takes a few to pass it to everyone else. Covid has not gone away, I know several people (family members) who have come down with it recently. People are too complacent!

Actually it's pretty much impossible to ignore it. It's everywhere.

I've been avoiding watching tv, listening to the radio, and even social media because it's insane.

The queen, who was 96, a decent age, not tragically young, has died. Her body has been bounced around the uk so that people can walk past her coffin. It's ludicrous. Back in the Middle Ages this may have been acceptable, possibly even necessary (?) but surely we've evolved beyond this now??

So yes, the uk seems to have gone stark raving bonkers.

Do the people who are saying it's everywhere live or work in Central London by any chance? I guess I could understand you feeling that way if so.

It really isn't "everywhere" though. I went into our local town this morning and the only real sign of the Queen's death were a few pictures/tributes put up by big national retailers. Nobody was taking a blind bit of notice of them and everyone was just getting on with their normal lives.

Nobody is really talking about it on my social media either. There were a few comments on the day she died, but nothing further. Maybe you're just friends with a lot of fervent royalists?!

TV and radio - yes, the news has been a bit OTT but I so rarely watch live TV these days that it doesn't really register that much. I just switch over to Netflix.

I'm really curious as to how different people's experiences are. As far as I can see, there is no mass hysteria and most people have just moved on. Other people must be living on a completely different planet?!Grin

eglantine7 · 17/09/2022 19:49

Yes, I find it all quite bizarre even as I stand very moved by the passing of our Queen. I saw an 9 year old child on the news who'd been queuing in the night. Crazy!

InterviewWorry · 17/09/2022 19:49

99% of people are perfectly sane. I don’t know anyone who’s done anything odd, posted about the Queen on FB or queued for hours to see the coffin.

The amount of tv coverage is completely bonkers, however.

stillherenow · 17/09/2022 19:50

More like herd mentality ! But it's very much the minority

Gemcat1 · 17/09/2022 19:55

The Queen represented this country for many years. Many people admired her and loved her. I respected her hard work and the good that she did for this country. Bear in mind that she worked until she was 96 years old, disabled and up to 2 days before her death. That in and of itself demands respect.

Conky1975 · 17/09/2022 19:57

@CaramelTwirl 100% agreed

someone at work refused to come in after waiting in the queue for 12 hours and was ‘far too upset afterwards’ to think about work

Desmorelda · 17/09/2022 20:03

@SydSprocket
Firstly the SNP lost their referendum, then the Remainers lost and now shouty anti monarchists have all been gobsmacked that the silent majority exists and is in fact, a majority of the population
Bollocks. Like anti monarchists are all remainers ? Or SNP supporters ? It's that kind of stupid disjointed logic that has led the country into the mess it's in. Going well Brexit eh ?😂

I didn’t take that to mean they were all in same group just that op is not in majority with this view as the other two weren’t

And loads of us thought that was also an obscene amount of money for something.

Missingpop · 17/09/2022 20:24

Yes I think the whole bloody nation has gone loopy; I’ve watched various member of the public sharing there emotional tributes about the Queen.
The one I loved above all the others was the one from our new prime minister Liz Truss pledging that The Queen has always been an inspirational figure too her……. Mmmmm really Ms Truss because there’s a clip of you in your youth shouting your mouth off “down with the monarchy” & when the two clips were blended together it made for great viewing.
So yes the country has gone mad but once Monday is over it will settle down again & The King will show his years of observation & waiting were worthwhile & that he’s the right man for the job.

Ineke · 17/09/2022 20:26

I think it’s catching. I had no wish or desire to go up and queue but now kind of feel that I would regret it if I didn’t. I’m not going to but have been watching the live coverage which is mesmerising. There are various degrees of attachment to HRH, she did seem to have the Common touch. People are emotional and hysteria does seep into some folks, but ever has it been. It is a field day/week for the media who will whip it up.

Wingloss · 17/09/2022 20:27

Absolutely! furthermore it’s frightening to see the current brainwashing people are getting through the media. Shameful. Problems have not gone away and the country is in deep trouble. The cost of living crisis it’s going to bite hard.

StoneofDestiny · 17/09/2022 20:27

I think your guesstimate is way off the mark! The most 'positive reporting' puts the funeral estimate alone at £8 million. The private flights up to and from Scotland, the cost of the immense policing, military presence, marshalling, 500 portaloos on the queue etc etc.......followed by a Coronation, it's not going to be a stretch to look at a bill of billions!

The sheer irony of all this after the 'Diana death/funeral arrangements' that allegedly were met by distain by Elizabeth...........yet she and Charles were fully involved in planning all this excessive tour de corpse! A cost we have to meet (while never knowing the content of her will!

Don’t worry cost of living will be back in full media doom mode on Tuesday if you missed it.

Your beloved Scottish independence will cost millions

singledadstu · 17/09/2022 20:38

No , I don’t think it’s mass hysteria. We all had a fair idea that The Queen would pass away towards older age just as any other person would be expected to. We also know as head of state and taking into account her long and remarkable service that she would be accorded this type of ceremony. If I lived near London , I would have taken my kids to see such a sight, as they’re young they would be able to regale this occasion to their grandchildren. Similarly I tell all my kids how The Queen was driven past our street in the 70’s and we all waved as she smiled and waved at us . No crazy psychosis going on really just something of historical note

Also, how do you feel about people in queues entering or exiting stadium football, concerts etc?

StoneofDestiny · 17/09/2022 20:44

Not sure why you are intent of dragging Scottish Independence into this - buy hey - when it comes we will be spared the excesses of the Tory Party forever who have just scrapped the cap on bankers bonuses - while saying a pay rise for public service or transport workers will accelerate inflation!

Sheerdetermination · 17/09/2022 20:44

I’m in Sweden at the moment and they’re all amazed by what’s going on in the UK. It’s totally OTT. The Queen was iconic and a great unifier, but it’s all going far too far. Why on earth are doctor’s surgeries and supermarkets closing? Why are people bowing at a coffin? Frankly ridiculous. Thanks, OP, for letting me get that off my chest.

Sheerdetermination · 17/09/2022 20:45

And even in death she’s a tourist attraction. Poor woman. Let her rest in peace.

theremustonlybeone · 17/09/2022 20:45

Nope - there was mass hysteria when Diana died. Folks falling about sobbing, Raging anger towards the monarchy, Prime Minister having to step in and do damage limitation, forced to do a state funeral and her poor kids put out for the public to see walking behind her funeral. The ‘’peoples’ princess! fFS That’s hysteria - was shocking at the time
