If so, what are your items to be included?

We're having

Cheese scones
Fruit scones
Victoria sponge
Another cake to be decided

Some form of sandwich - not sure whether to do crustless or cute mini rolls.

Fillings to be decided and hopefully get some inspiration from this thread.

Prosecco and soft drinks

Oh fab idea definitely going to join! In
finding ham sandwiches, homemade sausage rolls, Victoria sponge, Prosecco and strawberries!

Trinity65 · 16/09/2022 19:23

I wasn't going too but now you mention it .
Yes, Yes I think I will.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 16/09/2022 19:24

genius! Especially as one or both of us might have to be working there at the last minute so can take a fancy pack up. DH loves my sausage rolls too.

CandyLeBonBon · 16/09/2022 19:25

What a sweet idea. I just told my mum as she's a big fan of her Maj, and she's chuffed at the idea. Thanks Mn!

Crispynoodle · 16/09/2022 19:27

Such a great idea!

Hobbitlover · 16/09/2022 19:28

No, would not occur to me to do that tbh. Is it more an English thing? Genuinely wondering btw

OrangeSamphire · 16/09/2022 19:34

Not that different to what would be served at the average wake really.

scrivette · 16/09/2022 19:34

I am going to do an afternoon tea, I like the idea of marmalade sandwiches!

Victoria Sponge
Mr Kipling Fancies as they look so pretty
Viennese Whirls

Jam or maybe marmalade sandwiches
Cheese and cucumber sandwiches
Sausage rolls

Leftover birthday cake from the day before

Hysteriawhenyourenear · 16/09/2022 19:41

Yes, we will be doing this.
Going to dig out my jubilee flag and set out my best cake stand and teapot.
Planning cucumber sandwiches (googled her prefered recipe) along with egg and salmon.
Making lemon possett and making jam pennies.
Will have scones and lots of earle grey tea.
I will raise a cup to you ma'am

AlwaysLatte · 16/09/2022 19:50

One is not being unreasonable. Go for it. Maybe don't wave a flag like a demented windmill though.

itsnotdeep · 16/09/2022 20:17

we're also making a Victoria Sponge. We're going to decorate it to look like the queen. I did suggest a bake off competition with my teens, but they're going out to party (wearing black apparently).

A funeral party?

itsnotdeep · 16/09/2022 20:20

well they're 17 and I suspect vast amounts of alcohol will be involved and very little consideration or discussion about the Queen. But they are going to wear black.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 16/09/2022 20:22

NaiceLeftie · 16/09/2022 19:06

How about marmalade sandwiches?

I was planning on marmalade on toast for breakfast as a nod!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 16/09/2022 20:26

I'm still debating going to Windsor.

beyond marmalade on toast I hadn't thought about food, at all. But afternoon tea does sound quite fitting if I stay home.

consortiar · 16/09/2022 21:14

Think I'll have to stock up early tomorrow if we all have the same idea.

Good for them, I'm sure Her Majesty would fully approve.

I’m going to go to Windsor but will have a late afternoon tea when we get home.

thetruthaboutlovecomesat3am · 16/09/2022 23:18

Yes we are!
Just myself DH and toddler DD

Homemade butterscotch tart
Victoria sponge cupcakes
Salmon and cream cheese sarns
Cucumber and cream cheese sarns
Egg Mayo snd cress sarns
And lots and lots of English breakfast tea.

We met our new neighbours today and they are moving in on Monday next door and they said they would love some grub so I'm going to make them up a little basket and take it over.

I sent my brother who lives opposite to Waitrose for dubonnet. He came back with a puppy Confused

Aw, can he come and do my shopping as I’d love that type of substitute too 😍😍

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/09/2022 23:21

Yes!

Egg mayonnaise , salmon and cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches

Scones and jam/cream

Victoria sponge

Copious amounts of tea

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/09/2022 23:23

Carpy88999 · 16/09/2022 18:38

I think it's pretty crass to be eating at all.

I expect most of us won't be munching during the actual funeral 🙄

EmmaH2022 · 16/09/2022 23:27

Is this something the Queen wanted?

i hope so as otherwise I can't talk mum into it 😂

Carpy88999 · 17/09/2022 06:37

CandyLeBonBon · 16/09/2022 18:58

I'm assuming this is sarcasm?!? 😂

No. I haven't eaten a thing during the period of state mourning for HRH The Queen. After the funeral is over I may have a single slice of dry toast.

consortiar · 17/09/2022 06:44

Sandwich filling ideas please?

Should we go crustless sandwiches in fingers on mini rolls or is there anything else that's cute?
