If so, what are your items to be included?

We're having

Cheese scones
Fruit scones
Victoria sponge
Another cake to be decided

Some form of sandwich - not sure whether to do crustless or cute mini rolls.

Fillings to be decided and hopefully get some inspiration from this thread.

Prosecco and soft drinks

Good idea! We were going to have brunch for the 11am start.

ThreeRingCircus · 16/09/2022 17:36

Oh that sounds a lovely idea! I'm cooking roast beef and already have all the stuff for it but wish I'd seen this first 😂

5128gap · 16/09/2022 17:39

No. We're decorating the kitchen then getting a kebab and chips. It's what she would have wanted.

ThickCutSteakChips · 16/09/2022 17:40

Following!

OrangeSamphire · 16/09/2022 17:41

Yes!

We had a whole discussion about what would be appropriate to eat on Monday knowing that none of us will feel like cooking and decided on:

  • an ‘afternoon tea style’ table to pick from, from mid morning, with finger sandwiches (cucumber, watercress, ham), a F&M game pie, a F&M fruitcake, pots of good tea
  • homemade apple pie with clotted cream for late afternoon - with tea or champagne, depending on how we are feeling
  • British cheeses and crudités with a glass of port in the evening
mamaduckbone · 16/09/2022 17:43

I hadn't planned to but definitely think I might now...

WonkasBooboofixer · 16/09/2022 17:56

MushMonster · 16/09/2022 17:58

Now that is a good idea!
Me being foreign had not thought of it! But yes I am doing it!
I have to get choc brownies in somehow as my DD has been waiting to bake since last week.
We shall try to bake our own scones too.

Hedonism · 16/09/2022 18:12

Yes, and I'm going to get my fancy cake stand out to serve it on.

Smoked salmon sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, maybe trifle....

Carpy88999 · 16/09/2022 18:38

I think it's pretty crass to be eating at all.

FannyCann · 16/09/2022 18:42

I had got as far as planning some smoked salmon sandwiches and champagne to toast Her Majesty. Now I've got to up the game.
Thanks for some excellent suggestions.

Thismummyrunstheshow · 16/09/2022 18:48

Yes!

Food shop is being delivered tonight after finishing work; all my items are coming apart from the smoked salmon which isn't the end of the world in the grand scheme of things but my 8 year old will be sad as she does love a bit as a treat!

Scones, cakes, sandwiches, sausage rolls, drinks etc

I'm assuming this is sarcasm?!? 😂

Greenpolkadot · 16/09/2022 19:00

We are having egg mayo buns, ham and tomato buns (little ones )
Sausage Platt. Quiche. Cheesecake

ThisUserNameIsAvailableOk · 16/09/2022 19:04

"Sausage Platt"

Is that Gail's doggy? 🤣

Lesserspotteddogfish · 16/09/2022 19:04

Is it a thing now to have afternoon tea on the Queen’s funeral day? I’m guessing there will be no cream left in the shops for our usual Sunday dessert, as happened at the Jubilee.

NaiceLeftie · 16/09/2022 19:06

How about marmalade sandwiches?

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 16/09/2022 19:10

CandyLeBonBon · 16/09/2022 18:58

I'm assuming this is sarcasm?!? 😂

Or an attempt at a race to the bottom. 😂

erikbloodaxe · 16/09/2022 19:15

Yes I am planning a Wake for one. I shall bake on Sunday and graze all day Monday on Sausages Rolls, sandwiches, Lemon and Blueberry Bundt cake, cherry scones and pots of tea.

Leftbutcameback · 16/09/2022 19:17

I'm feeling even more sad now - on holiday until Tuesday so we'll be missing it, and on an excursion on Monday so won't even be able to watch online. If I'd been at home I would have either been able to go to Windsor or would have been working (sort of supporting the Windsor part,)

It feels like such a big event, and I've always watched the other big royal events (including going to London for Wills and Catherine's wedding).

I will have to have a cream tea and drink a toast to the Queen and her family when I'm back. Maybe they'll be some cream in stock by then!

Leftbutcameback · 16/09/2022 19:18

Or a dorgi which makes me laugh far too much!
