It is sad our Queen has died.

On a personal level it's sad for her family.

At a public level it's a momentous occasion for us because she was our head of state so we need to know what's happening next.

But do we really need this ten day event? When the PM left he just gave a wee speech. This is going on forever. Loads of things cancelled, BBC on wall to wall Queen setting.

It's a bit unnecessary isn't it?

Better off trying to figure out what we want from Bonnie Queen Charlie or whatever the fuck he's calling himself, than all this rigmarole.

Or AIBU?

I'm sure there is news going on somewhere, even if we're not allowed to have UK news which I'd quite like to see. They've done a tiny bit of Ukrainian news but nothing on the horrors that the current evildoers in parliament will be sneaking through while the majority are fixated on the bread and circuses of the royal stuff.... Not that I'm a cynic in any way YADNBU @GuyMontag

So you haven't heard that fracking has been given the ahead, despite there being no evidence that it is safe?

Wafflesnsniffles · 15/09/2022 01:13

YABU. Boris gave a speech that was only 10 minutes long because he was pm for only a few years. And he was a useless spineless worm.

The Queen was on the throne for 70 years. And was the Queen - entirely different from a PM.

If it has become boring to you........... just quit switching on and tuning in. Watch Dvds, you tube, netflix etc for a week or so instead - really not that difficult. Ignore the news for a bit too - or just tune in/read the non royal stuff - very doable.

GothicSierra · 15/09/2022 01:15

The funeral hasn’t happened yet, and I already know the headlines will be about Harry and William, ie, body language, putting up with each other, Meghan and Kate having disagreements. It’s a bout time they all bloody grew up. It’s sad about HRH but she had a bloody good innings and a great life.

i don’t mind coverage on the TV, but every channel, and the radio… just lay her to rest and be done with it…. Personally I hate to see people taking photos of King Charles and the parade, disrespectful. I am not a fan of King Charles especially after Diana, she was the only one I liked.

SueDCreme · 15/09/2022 01:17

I was over it about 6 hours after the announcement

pompomdaisy · 15/09/2022 01:19

What the country does in relation to death of a monarch is tradition dating back hundreds and hundreds of years.

I doubt it gives two hoots what you think or might want!

Euridicefortuna · 15/09/2022 01:23

jesusjoan · 15/09/2022 01:06

Her own special advisers tried to encourage her to apologise for her family's role in the Empire and colonial looting and she refused to!

I already stated I don't hold her responsible for her ancestors actions.I wouldn't apologise for my ancestors or my parents actions either.I only apologise for my behaviour and what I have the power to change. An apology from someone that didn't actively take part in the atrocities is meaningless to me.It isn't going to change history .

GuyMontag · 15/09/2022 01:23

Well it should because I live here and I pay for it.

That was to @pompomdaisy . I live here and I pay for it. So the people enacting the tradition are answerable to me. Not the other way around.

YABU... this is a momentous historic event affecting literally the world. There's plenty of other TV channels or in fact the option of turning your TV off, it would be easy to avoid the 'malarkey' if you wanted to make the effort!

How is it affecting the world? Im certain in many, many countries its irrelevant.

GuyMontag · 15/09/2022 00:53

@MarshaMelrose I don't really get the motivation behind posters like you.

I mean, we're all going to be fucked in no kind way over the coming winter. Even people who can afford it are going to be spending more than they'd like to. Unless they're uber rich with rising assets to compensate Which I doubt you are. Because the uber rich don't post on Mumsnet.

So you either really don't understand the situation we're in, or you're too thick to care, but either way you wouldn't be engaging on the subject.

So, why are you here, saying the things you do that are so very obviously nonsense? You know we can see you, right?

I don't really get the motivation behind posters like you.

Then I'll tell you. You are anti-monarchy. I respect your opinion. There are tons of anti monarchy threads on here that I never bother with because people are respectful to each other. But not you. You're incapable of posting without swearing or being aggressive. You insult other posters. And you say ridiculous things because you think they're edgy. Or maybe funny? But it's neither. It's just childish.

I'm happy to have a debate about the energy crisis. But even when you bring that up, you're aggressive: you're too thick to care; You know we can see you. But, then, it's presumptious of me to think you're interested in debate because if someone said something you don't agree with, you'll just call them fucking tits or tell them to fuck off. Cos you're...really cool. 😎

MarshaMelrose · 15/09/2022 01:35

70 years of service is a big deal so I 'get' all the pomp and ceremony. I dont personally know a single person in real life who cares tho. Not even mentioned at work

Let me introduce myself. I'm Marsha Melrose. Now you know someone who is.

Pretty sure an apology would have been meaningful to a hell of a lot of people. But I do apologise myself, I didn't realise this was all about you.

Coyoacan · 15/09/2022 01:11

So you haven't heard that fracking has been given the ahead, despite there being no evidence that it is safe?

She announced that before Parliament was suspended. So not sneaked through during suspension.

Rowantree2013 · 15/09/2022 01:42

I'm 69 and I don't give a flying fuck that a rich woman calling herself queen has died.
I don't get why so many people think she's done the country any good. Or that so many venerate her, and enjoy being subservient and forelock-tugging.
I'm no-one's subject. I'm a citizen. And beyond angry that hospital appointments, food banks and other essential services have to close because of this parasite family. So there.

MarshaMelrose · 15/09/2022 01:44

I live here and I pay for it, too. So, therefore, people enacting the tradition must be answerable to me as well.
And I say, crack on. I love it. Give me more.

Oops, I guess they respected my views more than they respected yours. 🤷

Huntswomanonthemove · 15/09/2022 01:55

It’s way too much.

Anon778833 · 15/09/2022 02:01

YANBU. My daughter goes to a school nursery where the school has links with the cathedral. She’s only 2 and is quite an anxious child. And I found out that she and the rest of her cohort was taken over to the Cathedral to join in some stuff about the Queen’s death. It was only her first week!

I also think that things are being set up so that everyone stays in their house and watch the funeral. For heavens sake - we didn’t know this person. And operations are being cancelled and food banks are being closed on Monday.

Isn’t that the same as saying ‘I didn’t own slaves’

jokingfox · 15/09/2022 06:57

The Queen was a very very clever and wise person and this was all planned when she was alive on to make it SO big so people would think how great it is to have them leeching off the plebs and make them feel proud of it as a nation we provide fuck all thanks to the way we are managed and the huge wealth divide! What she didn't plan is her death fell on the beginning of the worst economic crisis where people are waking up to all this 'malarkey' and what nonsense all this is. 11 days of mourning is far too long, 11 days of postponing events, appointments etc, 11 days of media coverage, the whole budget for this and the coronation where people are barely making ends meet is too much for a very very privileged lady who most of us have never met who has never improved our lives apart from her own kind.

georgarina · 15/09/2022 06:59

The only thing I'm being inundated by is people whining about the coverage tbh.
YABU. Read a book.

Suzi888 · 15/09/2022 07:01

It’s quite easy to avoid. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Apart from the initial announcement which I watched for about half hour, I’ve seen nothing.

Novella4 · 15/09/2022 07:32

YANBU OP

There is no national mood of mourning .
It's being ramped up by the establishment to attempt to shore up support for the royals - and get a few dirty deals done

I'm sure some feel unsettled by the loss of the constant presence of the queen . I wonder how many though respect the queen rather than the monarchy . Her peevish son has already made several missteps.

The pageantry was arcane 70 years ( though most of the protocol that the royal watchers rub their thighs over was invented by Victoria ) and it looks Disneyfied now.
It's an obscene waste of money - not that such considerations will have troubled them
It's an attempt to harken back Empire and the gammons lap it up.
Empire is long gone , the UK ( before it breaks up) is a declining force and facing into a recession but the 'pomp' allows some to pretend .

Wave the baubles and they know the populace won't ask questions about Saviille , Peter Ball , Mountbatten.
The money is the least of it

BashfulClam · 15/09/2022 07:49

GuyMontag · 15/09/2022 00:14

Aye, he's known - for being a pal of Savile and for taking cash in plastic bags. Plus wanting to be a tampon.

When Scotland separates (which will happen, have no doubt) will he become Charles I or will he stay Charles III?

Now we see the reason for all the tripe you are dribbling. Not all of us Scots want independence,

ClaudineClare · 15/09/2022 08:46

I agree.

ClaudineClare · 15/09/2022 08:47

It all just (increasingly expensive)
bread and circuses.
