To think publishing the video of King Charles getting annoyed when signing a visitors book today is very unkind?

He has lost both parents in a short time frame, had a disagreement with his own son and taken on a very stressful job at the height of grief. AIBU to think this should not have been made public? Most people would lose their temper at a time like that in their own lives. Why publish this?

How could they not find a pen that didn't leak? The ink was all over Camilla's hands too. She looked fed up - she still had a long time ahead if her in those clothes abd there, was ink everywhere.

Charles had a tissue to wipe his hands and didn’t even think to offer it to Camilla when she was holding it saying it’s going everywhere. 🤦🏻‍♀️ He wiped his own hands and poor Camilla was just left to sort of wipe the ink on other parts of her hands so she could continue on and sign. I think Camilla is probably a long suffering wife of a grumpy Charles and we’ll come to feel a lot of sympathy for her in the coming years. And I think we’ll all like her more and more as the one that just stays calm.

Tiktok are loving pen drama, there’s some really funny commentary over both the pen videos and some really good comments.

Oh for fucks sake.

The man can’t even recall the correct date in that clip, he’s over 70 years of age, exhausted, has been dragged from pillar to post all over the UK, whilst under intense media scrutiny, he probably doesnt know if he’s coming or going and the pen leaked all over Camillas hand, it may well just be that one thing that really pissed him off, like any other human being under pressure!!!!

MN has turned into such a monarchy hating cess pit this week, any excuse to be disrespectful or cruel or flippant.

As for the redundancies, each RF member has their own staff, once they move to Buckingham palace there will be the queens staff there who are already trained in that building, who know how it’s run, he can’t be expected to take his staff with him and have two sets of of staff, surely? You’d all be up in arms that the “tax payer” was paying for a house full of staff with no one in it if they weren’t sacked.

Theres no pleasing people who are insistent on finding fault!

This sums up how I feel. Thank you for being far more eloquent than I could be.

cottonbrain49 · 14/09/2022 03:48

The tabloids post about it to get you talking. So well done for falling for their trick. Whether you like what they've done or not you are still giving the story attention.

It's like people on here who post threads should finish and still have to say their bit. If you really wanted a story to atop you'd totally ignore it.

He’s a man who has led a life of pampered indulgence for decades. This behaviour just seems ungracious and petulant. And sacking staff so quickly, comes across as hard and uncaring.

I have met him, and oh my God, the petulance! I mean, I get it, he comes from a life of extreme privilege but OP trying to pass off his latest petulant behaviour as grief is convemient.

I must be U then. I just think when people who didn't even know her are weeping in public and people don't seem to understand that as well as being King, he and the rest of the RF were her family members and are devastated.

Agree with you OP

Well I just watched it & it was hardly throwing a strop. He was mildly annoyed as the pen was leaking. I think he was justified tbh.

This.

He was annoyed at the one leaking.

"I bloody hate this"
"This stinking pen always does this"

He's stressed and bereaved and completely sleep deprived. He's mourning on public and travelling the country.

He has added pressure because of Andrew and Harry.

He's also 73.

He's venting frustration. He's human.

A large amount of the country seem to think they need to attend her coffin arrival and visit her laying in state and are weeping and wailing etc.

Why can't people realise this is his mother. His feelings are 100 times worse than anyone else's. The pen was the straw that broke the camels back.

Personally I think I'd prefer a king who is human as I always found the queens lack of public emotion quite unnerving at times.

Was the sneering comment aimed at me? I commented on that because I highly approve of separate living. I just can't afford it! Thought that was clear.

Hardly “ Sneering “ when Camilla herself said she is messy, as is one of half of the couples I know.
People are often far happier in their own homes and have much happier - and long lasting - relationships as a result .

Leaky fountain or cartridge pens are very annoying.
I’d have hoped that Charles would have had a “ Good” one that didn’t leak.
I love “ Proper” pens- but they can sometimes leak.
A 🖊 pen gives a far superior look on a document than any other writing implement.

Brefugee · 14/09/2022 07:30

Meh. Yes he's under stress. Yes he's an entitled knob. We should be able to know that.

Ffs, I’m a republican, no question, but I’m also not a cunt. He’s in his 70s and he has just lost his Mother. He hasn’t had a moments rest and has been required to travel up and down the Union since the day his Mother died. He’s a fucking human being for fucks sake, not an automaton. I have sympathy.

He isnt "required" to do anything. He doesnt have to be king.
But he wants to be king because his gigantic ego requires it.

He is showing who he is. A petulant brat of 73.

If he is this odious with the cameras there, what a dick he must be in private.
How I wish somebody had told him to wind his fucking neck in.

flophop · 14/09/2022 07:32

I know he's stressed and grieving but that bit where he juts his bottom teeth out and shoos the stuff away, I dunno it's just so fucking posh it makes me cringe. But I can't bear the idea of a royal family in 2022 so I'm coming at it from a republican perspective I guess.

LicoricePizza · 14/09/2022 07:37

Republican press will be ready to pounce on any misstep he makes.

He is human & therefore flawed like the rest of us.

He has an especially difficult role to step into because the Queen was removed by virtue of her position as monarch & the age at which she was coronated meant she didn’t have 70 odd years in the limelight for her personality to become truly exposed.

He is who he is & won’t just morph into her now just because he’s King.

That’s what’s going to be hard for people - to realise that she really is irreplaceable & one of a kind.

Fair enough. Question though - if you saw the same sort of footage of Kim Jong-un just after his father Kim Jong-il died as he took over the very stressful job of Supreme Leader of North Korea- would you have said 'be kind' and asked for the footage not to be shown? Or would you have taken it as further evidence of what a tyrant he is.

The world is watching, and many people from many countries associate the UK royal family with the past brutal system of cololonism and dominance. Charles isn't coming across as the best person for reconciliation.

Ohpaella · 14/09/2022 07:51

He wasn’t spoilt, he had a very cold stern, even cruel, upbringing. From both parents.

Ohpaella · 14/09/2022 07:52

@montysma1 Are you okay?

Brefugee · 14/09/2022 07:52

I think what a lot of people find hard to take is the enforced mourning and the absolute lack of respect for any other view than "she was an angel here on earth and poor ol' Charles just lost his mum he's doing his best"

Frankly? Someone (Camilla?) should be stepping in and saying "enough" and cutting down all the stuff he is doing. There is no reason this trip round the UK has to be such a punishing schedule for him. There should be a lot more time to think, reflect and be with his family.

The fact that this plan has been in place for decades - and periodically revised - is the problem. So he needs to suck it up and relax in the evening with a large GnT until it's all over.

The optics of what he has done to his staff - that letter should have been a face to face conversation with whoever sent it - is disgraceful. The fact that it happened to the (appalling) Queen Mother's staff should have been a lesson. They are working overtime to smooth the transition. Yes, they are well aware it's coming - but now? in that way? I hope they're in a good union (I know they aren't).

Charles is a grown man who behaves like a petulant child. He needs to get over himself because he is doing the monarchy no favours here.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/09/2022 07:58

It was such a non event,I'd have been pissed off too. He got ink all over his hands and had to go and shake everyone's hands afterwards, would piss me off too. He had a bit of a grumble, he didn't tell or throw the pen 🙄

W0tnow · 14/09/2022 08:01

I haven’t rtft.

But…ballpoint?

User287264 · 14/09/2022 08:15

Was it his staff who brought the pen with them? Or the staff at Hillsborough who gave him one of theirs?
Either way you'd think giving the King a functioning pen was a pretty basic thing to get right.
Everyone will be triple checking now if they are in charge of pen provision.

Brefugee · 14/09/2022 08:19

I'm guessing (no evidence) that this is a fountain pen that means much to him. Probably passed down through the family? (I have one from my grandad - it leaks so much you can't use it now).
All it needs is a bit of refurbishment probably.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/09/2022 08:19

Ink is a sod to wash off too, not like he can just go and wash his hands to remove it,stays on ages.

Septemberslooming · 14/09/2022 08:21

BirdyWoof · 14/09/2022 00:47

No harm but no elderly should have been brought out of nursing homes at 6am to sit and wait for him. That’s just utterly stupid.

You also didn’t have to go, either.

I’m not a fan of Charles by any stretch but you’re talking out of your hole on this one. You’re complaining about how he didn’t spend hours talking to the elderly when he is is probably the same age as those sitting waiting for him. Awful for them to be waiting for hours but totally expected for him to spend the same time waiting around talking to people?

Wise up.

To say that anyone is talking out of their hole is so rude that I'll simply give the short response of saying that I highlighted how he needs to balance his visits in terms of meeting the great and good and the general public. Neither of us know the story of the elderly people who want to see their King and wait for hours in a vain attempt to do so but to see him having tantrums in a royal palace over a leaking pen and pressing the flesh with a large number of VIPs does him no favours.

I read somewhere that he has an inflammatory condition on his hands. If that's correct, the last thing he needs is to have to scrub ink off, especially with the amount of handshaking he's having to do at the moment.
