I've had to cancel a holiday to repair my car - (was paying monthly) anyhow I phoned the travel agent and asked how much the cancellation charges would be. They said it's £150 per person. Fine £450 in total. Just been refunded now and instead of £2500 I've been given £300! Fuck! I'll be straight on the phone in the morning but fuck!

Oh my God that’s shit @popcornfrenzy i hope you get it sorted in the morning.

Is there no way you could have had the holiday? E

popcornfrenzy · 13/09/2022 01:42

Nope I need to money to fix my car - I really hope it's a mistake. It was booked for Christmas (Lapland) I honestly could cry right now and all hope of sleep has gone.

OP posts:
Aubriella · 13/09/2022 01:45

That is properly shit. Have you had a read of the terms and conditions/small print?

bahlong · 13/09/2022 01:45

Op the exact same thing happened to me with TUI- holiday was cancelled due to covid, we were due a £2000 refund and I only got £300, like you it was the middle of the night, I found a number and called at 8am the next day, I had been in the telephone queue for over an hour when I went to check my bank for the transaction number and the other £1700 was there Blush! I have no idea why they paid me back like that, perhaps the £300 was a test? I was so glad I never got through to an operator I would have been pretty embarrassed!

I hope this happens for you too!

popcornfrenzy · 13/09/2022 01:47

Have read the small print and if you cancel over 70 days before the holiday it's £150 per person. I wasn't going until 23/12 so we're at over 100 days.

I really hope so - I was actually due nearly £2300 and only received £293.50. I have a really horrible feeling they're going to say the flights aren't refundable but surely flights aren't £2k? It was to Lapland

Did you not consider moving the dates of the holiday, they do that for a much smaller fee.

No, I needed the money back to fix my car - I specially asked how much I would lose and they said £450, I paid just short of £3k so could take the £450 hit.

Could it be something like separate balance and deposit refunds?

popcornfrenzy · 13/09/2022 01:58

But thanks for bumping my thread 👍🏻

God I hope so but I'm doubtful - flights were with Jet2 and just looked and their flights are non refundable Sad I thought they would have told me that when I phoned to cancel especially as I asked what I would lose

OP posts:
CharlotteRose90 · 13/09/2022 02:04

Was the whole package with jet 2 so flights and hotel etc? If not I think you’ll have to claim on your insurance and you’ll only get the remainder of hotel paid. I used to work for Jet2 and they definitely are a none refundable airline but if the holidays fully booked through them you may have a chance.

The whole package was booked through Hays - will speak to them in the morning

Double check with them but I think you’ll get the hotel refunded but not the flights. Jet2 have a no refund policy on flight only which yours appears to be. I would challenge it with hays though as they should have told you upfront.
