To ask about Covid test result - is it positive?

Just took a Covid test after feeling awful for the last few days. I think I can see a very faint line by the ‘T’ on the test, which has never happened on any previous tests I’ve done (pic attached). I think that means it’s positive, but grateful for any other thoughts!

Yep. Positive

girlmom21 · 11/09/2022 21:16

I'd say that's positive.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 11/09/2022 21:16

Yes, the guidance I read when I was looking for the same info was that if it shows pink at all, it’s positive. Bad luck. Mine came up dark red the first time I tested, but DH started like yours, and was blazing the next day. Hope you feel better soon.

ChrisS36 · 11/09/2022 21:17

No point ignoring what you may not want to see. That’s a positive.

Turtles4543 · 11/09/2022 21:17

Yes positive

Mindymomo · 11/09/2022 21:18

I see a feint line.

@ChrisS36 I’m asking because I’ve never had this sort of result come up before. It’s not that I’m ignoring it because I don’t want to see it. I’m asking for second opinions, as I’ve never seen a positive result on a test I’ve taken before, rather than asking for reassurance that it’s negative.

Huh? What? I think either my eyesight isn't good or I don't understand what others are saying: there is a visible red line on the "C" - that means negative, not positive. Tbh covid is quite passe nowadays, it's not as fatal as it was when it first came out.

spiderlight · 11/09/2022 21:21

Yes, sorry. My DS did a test that came out like that last month when he had a very sore throat. We weren't sure so I tested him again about two hours later and it was a blazing positive.

WagathaChristieMystery · 11/09/2022 21:22

@Keyansier for a test result to be positive, my understanding is there needs to be a line by the C and a line by the T (doesn’t matter if the line by T is faint though). Having a line by the C doesn’t mean it’s negative.

Libre2 · 11/09/2022 21:22

Yes it’s a positive - although I am quite surprised people are still testing - with what in mind?

Cookerhood · 11/09/2022 21:22

The visible red line on the C (control) doesn't mean it's negative, it means the test is working. It's the red line on the T (test) that gives a positive result.

Darbs76 · 11/09/2022 21:23

I’d take that as a positive too. I’m just recovering from it, thankfully this second time was much much easier than last years

Erm maybe to avoid going into an office and infecting the whole team (we still have rules in place, you can’t just go to work if you’re infected), or maybe as you live with someone vulnerable and would like to know so you can stay away from them. Plenty of reasons

Dunnoburt · 11/09/2022 21:25

Positive.....either the start or end of covid if mine were anything to go by

As mentioned in my OP, I’ve been feeling really rough over the last few days. I put my symptoms down to flu, but just wanted to do a Covid test just to see if it was actually Covid rather than flu. It doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things - I’m obviously unwell either way, and in bed, so not seeing others and passing on my symptoms, but I just wanted to check whether I had Covid.

Are you trying to be funny @Keyansier ? Negative and positive tests have a strong C line; it stands for Control and shows that the test is working.

GiantTortoise · 11/09/2022 21:27

Yes, that's positive.

WagathaChristieMystery · 11/09/2022 21:28

The line on the c is a control line , it most emphatically does not mean the test is negative . DH and I have just recovered from a nasty bout of covid , felt terrible and are still feeling the fatigue etc. so glad you dismiss this as
‘passé’

CathyorClaire · 11/09/2022 21:35

In July I had a couple of days feeling rough as but tested negative on the second day.

Came up with a positive line you could see from space on the third and delayed + seemed to be common among those suffering it with me.

Hope you get over it quick, OP

MumYourBabyGrewUpToBeACowboy · 11/09/2022 21:54

lol, sure, covid’s “passé” … you don’t even know how the tests work so I’d hold off on the medical advice 🙄

Fuck me, how can you possibly get it so wrong? In what world does 'C' mean 'Negative'? It means Control!!

From the NHS themselves:

If your result is positive, you will see
2 lines on the test. A pink line next
to C and a pink line next T.
This means you have a positive
COVID-19 result.
If your result is negative, you will
see one line next to C.
