To ask about Covid test result - is it positive?

WagathaChristieMystery · 11/09/2022 21:14

Just took a Covid test after feeling awful for the last few days. I think I can see a very faint line by the ‘T’ on the test, which has never happened on any previous tests I’ve done (pic attached). I think that means it’s positive, but grateful for any other thoughts!

To ask about Covid test result - is it positive?

From the NHS themselves:

If your result is positive, you will see
2 lines on the test. A pink line next
to C and a pink line next T.
This means you have a positive
COVID-19 result.
If your result is negative, you will
see one line next to C.

There is also a very feint line next to the T so there are two lines making it positive.

Which is completely different.

I love the fact that 2ish years in some people still can't read a covid test properly Grin

yes op, like (most) other people here I can see a positive result indicated on your test.

unvillage · 12/09/2022 01:36

Can't believe people are still being shitty about other people testing. Some of us have vulnerable relatives, work in professions where covid spread can be devastating, or are just considerate of others even now.

You're positive OP, hope you feel better soon, and do whatever you think is best for yourself and those around you.

@Keyansier

OMG how have you got this far without being able to read a covid test!

You have to look in both places. A line on C means the test is working, it doesn’t give any indication of whether it is positive or negative. For that you need to look by the T, in OPs case there is a faint line, meaning this is a positive test. I would expect that line to get more pronounced in the next day or two if they were to test again.

Starryskiesinthesky · 12/09/2022 03:54

I think @Keyansier isn't seeing the faint line next to T and that's why they are saying it is negative.

MumYourBabyGrewUpToBeACowboy · 11/09/2022 21:54

lol, sure, covid’s “passé” … you don’t even know how the tests work so I’d hold off on the medical advice 🙄

😂 🙌🏼

WoodlandMummy · 12/09/2022 05:02

Keyansier · 11/09/2022 21:20

Huh? What? I think either my eyesight isn't good or I don't understand what others are saying: there is a visible red line on the "C" - that means negative, not positive. Tbh covid is quite passe nowadays, it's not as fatal as it was when it first came out.

There are no words 🤦🏻‍♀️

If your result is positive, you will still see a line next to the C, as well as one next to the T.

It is truly frightening to think there are still people who don’t know how to read a test. Wow.

There is a faint line next to the T. The early responders, myself included, didn’t think that needed mentioning because, for myself at least, I didn’t think there was anyone who didn’t know how to read an LFT by now. I interpreted the OP’s querying it as wondering how dark the line needed to be to indicate a positive, and replied accordingly.

girlmom21 · 12/09/2022 11:44

This is why they introduced digital pregnancy tests, clearly.
People really are that stupid.

Mypy · 12/09/2022 11:44

Not sure if you meant to quote me there @BobMortimersPocketMeat - it's @Keyansier who doesn't know how to read the test! Grin

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/09/2022 11:58

Yes, positive. My husband's first test was like this and I almost dismissed it, but we checked again next day and it was an immediate dark pink. He gave it to me of course and 6 weeks on I am still having to limit my normal life to cope with the leftover symptoms.

Most people will not need to be hospitalised with covid these days, but they are still likely to suffer after effects like fatigue, coughing and loss of smell for several weeks. People saying covid is passe/ no longer worth thinking about are being deeply disingenuous.

Doh! Yes, quote fail!

Sorry, is nobody else understanding how these two things can be both true at the same time? :

Yes but that means one line and one line only! The OP has 2 lines

GiantTortoise · 12/09/2022 18:04

There's always a line next to the C, unless you haven't done the test properly.

Didimum · 12/09/2022 18:06

I would usually say this is a positive, however this year I had a batch of tests that showed this very faint line when read after the 30 minute (which makes makes invalid anyway). The lines in the tests from this box never developed any further, I never got symptoms and tests from other boxes were negative. Test again tomorrow.

PuppyMonkey · 12/09/2022 18:10

Anyone else wondering if @Keyansier has been ignoring positive tests because there was also a red line on C, so that means negative?Grin

Sorry shouldn’t giggle.

BabyDreamers · 12/09/2022 18:11

I'd say you will know in the next few days when you do another. I've had loads like that so done a proper test and I've been negative.

Do you always just pick one line out of a set of instructions and take that as gospel?? There is also a faint line on the T, so if you read the whole thing, that clearly means positive. Goodness.

Unless you find covid and all the people that have died from it particularly funny then no, you shouldn't giggle, I quite agree.

I don't see a line next to the T but others do, so I guess I am wrong if so many other people are saying they can see one.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 12/09/2022 19:07

@Keyansier the line next to the T is faint, for sure, but it's definitely there, and I think this is what has caused lots of problems in the past. Many many people expect a positive test to be two very strong lines, but just like a pregnancy test the second line is often really faint to begin with. So lots of people have been essentially ignoring positive tests

I am a man, and gay, so I have zero experiences with pregnancy tests as not a female or neither personally engaged with females in that way to know about pregnancy tests as it's never been an issue for me. Like I said, I can only see one line on the C but the majority of the other repliers see two, also against the T, so I am probably wrong. Either way, the OP should have it clarified, but IMO covid is not what it used to be when it first came out, now people see it as a mild and controllable cold, not downplaying what it was before, but people seem to have been offended from me saying that it isn't, when it's true.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 13/09/2022 07:30

@Keyansier ah, no experience with pregnancy tests definitely explains why you can't see that second line! Smile Many of us with us with have spent many hours squinting for lines on pregnancy tests
