Colleague just randomly shouted “you bitch” at their computer. Aibu to think this isn’t really appropriate?

I do find it’s adults without children who swear the most.

I have worked with few adults who don't have children, but I have worked with a lot of adults who swear. I really couldn't care less about swearing in the office.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 08:10

is yoru colleague new @Ginandpink

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 10/09/2022 08:10

I called someone a wanker yesterday and that's as an actual person.
I dont think the computer would have been upset by it

keeprunning55 · 10/09/2022 08:11

I agree op, that’s awful. I expect he is just an unpleasant person.

KeyboardCat · 09/09/2022 23:47

NHS admin here, I called my computer a 'useless wankshaft' because it wasn't doing what I wanted.

But then my colleague once told me I had a 'fanny like an empty headlock' so it's pretty usual here :)

"Fanny like an empty headlock". My God that's amazing. 😂

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 10/09/2022 08:12

Ugh I cannot stand grown adults who are offended by swear words. You’re not a 10yo girl, grow a thicker skin.

abovedecknotbelow · 10/09/2022 08:15

I work in a very very sweary role, literally couldn't give a shit. The only word that doesn't get thrown around is cunt.

All the public school boys swear like navvies.

GnomeDePlume · 10/09/2022 08:24

I like a good sweary office.

Sunnyqueen · 10/09/2022 08:40

I'm assuming the office isn't situated inside a soft play centre so yabu you are all adults it's fine.

Hobbesmanc · 10/09/2022 08:41

I'm not offended by swear words. I've a proper potty mouth when I'm on one.

But not in the office. I hate bad language in the work place. I don't want my colleagues swearing. Or indeed burping farting or lolling around in their sweats. Just be a professional. It's what you're paid for.

YukoandHiro · 10/09/2022 08:42

I work in journalism. I hear the word cunt multiple times every day.

Sometimes I forget to moderate when I first get home 😂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 08:45

i also dont appreciate the F word at work, nor at home
or burping
or farting.
i was sitting near to somone in the park yesterday, he opened a bottle of coke and i just knew the burb was coming!
revolting

EmeraldShamrock1 · 10/09/2022 08:51

I don't like men using the word bitch at all, unless referring to a female dog.

butterflied · 10/09/2022 08:57

I’m fine with fuck, even cunt (also used today!)

So bitch is worse than cunt?

topcat2014 · 10/09/2022 08:58

Don't, whatever you do, get a job in the offices of a small provincial engineering company.. without earplugs.

I work in a school now, but even we are known to swear when Excel loses your morning's work!

butterflied · 10/09/2022 08:59

FWIW, I always found the British to be imaginative with their swearing. He could have put in some effort...

Elreychalino · 10/09/2022 09:07

I don't personally swear at work because I think it looks more professional, also I do think it creates an uneeded grey area...ive worked in environments where it was completely used everyday (culture tended to come from the top there) and it only added to the toxic atmosphere...having said that if it's used judicially and with warmth perhaps with two people who have worked together along time it can be a bonding thing. As usual it's about knowing your audience and not trying to skip steps in rapport building between colleagues.

Scepticalwotsits · 10/09/2022 09:10

Depends on the office, the environment the team culture and the context.

What’s totally inappropriate somewhere could be perfectly fine somewhere else.

Hlglu56 · 10/09/2022 09:33

My manager always swears, lots of F words etc, I find it really inappropriate in the office.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 10/09/2022 10:23

It's the shouting that's unacceptable in my opinion, not so much the swearing.

Topseyt123 · 10/09/2022 19:43

I don't think this would have bothered me at all.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 11/09/2022 22:22

Ginandpink · 09/09/2022 23:30

I’m actually surprised people are justifying this 😂

It's not about justification, just that different workplaces have their own cultures; I work in construction and the word cunt is bandied about frequently. It's just how it is, and it depends how the individual feels about that really.
