RIP Queen Elizabeth. Not a fan of the Royal Family but I had a lot of respect for the Queen.

For Diana’s funeral we had Elton doing CITW. Who do we think will do the honours here? I quite fancied Queen- the group- or Alfie Boe doing something?!

Please not bloody Adele or Sam Smith.

Love this!

I plan on "Itchycoo Park" myself.

My mother's friend had "Gone Fishing" for that.

ilovesooty · 13/09/2022 03:34

My friend's husband had "Isn't It Grand Boys To Be Bloody Well Dead" but I don't think it's very suitable for Westminster Abbey.

St Anne's Belfast chose an Englishman (John Tavener) for the anthem, although they have gone with Charles Wood for the nunc dimittis and C.V. Stanford for the psalm setting.

I would say William Harris (because of the St George's Chapel connection) but they already sang one of his at the memorial service.
Hubert Parry is a safe bet but they might be saving him for the coronation.

The anthem (which is the closest you're going to get to a theme song) is by Hubert Parry.
My soul there is a country.
Very good choice.

Faircastle · 19/09/2022 01:11

Interesting. BBC website is reporting that the anthem will be Parry, but the order of service from Westminster Abbey shows a new anthem by James MacMillan. Maybe both?

They've chosen William Harris for the committal service, which is fitting for the location.

Oh so no Chas & Dave then <sad face>

Yalz · 19/09/2022 02:20

@j712adrian , three Elgar pieces in a row in the Music Pieces Before the Service and a fourth piece for After the Service.

Not including the one you were thinking of?

If I was planning it I would have the lord bless you and keep you by rutter

If it had to be Rutter I’d like the Gaelic Blessing aka Garlic Dressing.

Perhaps at the second service.

fUNNYfACE36 · 19/09/2022 03:11

Theme tune!!!?

HansZimmerframe · 19/09/2022 03:17

Think James Blunt confirmed earlier that he'll be singing the theme tune

Rumour has it he will also be signing autographs outside Westminster Abbey after the coffin exits the building

Who will do the theme song/tune for the funeral?
TeenyDancy · 19/09/2022 09:08

Theme song lol.

What music was the queen into?

VestaTilley · 19/09/2022 09:10

Theme song? It’s a state funeral, not an episode of a sitcom.

It’ll be choral music and anthems, with hymns.

TrashyPanda · 19/09/2022 09:41

Read last night that they are having a descant to the 23rd Psalm, that was sung at QEIIs wedding. She chose it herself, having heard the descant and loving it.

this was written by William Baird Ross when he was music master at GWLC in Edinburgh and generations of pupils learnt it. I last sung it at my DDs wedding in May, so it is very special to me.

Amazing!

Elgar only wrote one tune!

How lovely; will listen out for this.

Rumour has it Gary Barlow is in charge of the theme tune

Faircastle · 19/09/2022 11:56

I wouldn't be surprised if CiiiR chooses Parry for the 'theme tune' (as the OP would put it) of the coronation too.

I was glad?

321Bed · 19/09/2022 12:07

If they do wheel out Elton John, he should definitely do Rocket Ma'am

😉

Just looked at the music before the service at Windsor. At last, the piece you may have expected, but several times over in the variations.

Nimrod (Variations On An Original Theme, Op.36) Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934), arranged by Sir William H Harris

Well he did write 'Sing' for her 2012 Jubilee, so that would be lovely.

@pagopago 😉
