Who will do the theme song/tune for the funeral?

RIP Queen Elizabeth. Not a fan of the Royal Family but I had a lot of respect for the Queen.

For Diana’s funeral we had Elton doing CITW. Who do we think will do the honours here? I quite fancied Queen- the group- or Alfie Boe doing something?!

Please not bloody Adele or Sam Smith.

I reckon they'll squeeze ginger spice back into that union flag dress and have them perform a charming cover "ma'am (ahhhh) we loved you, ma'am (ahhh) we cared, ma'am (ahhh) we loved you, ma'am (ahhh) our queen"...

(shudders at sacrilege)

Definitely need some bagpipes. I vote the BadPiper - Thunderstruck

Second choice, Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 10/09/2022 22:47

… are you familiar with funerals, OP?

I'm guessing Henry Purcell or Herbert Howells. Maybe Edgar Bainton?

It turns out I'm quite good at this! All three of these were featured in the thanksgiving service at St Giles.

cardibach · 12/09/2022 22:50

And Howells featured in the St. Paul’s service too.

Can't go wrong with Howells.
I think we'll hear more Parry too, at the coronation if not at the funeral.
The William Harris piece in the St Paul's service was stunning. And fitting, as he led a choir that the Queen sang in.

Gingerkittykat · 12/09/2022 23:13

The Sex Pistols?

Always4Brenner · 12/09/2022 23:13

No to most don’t want Elton John queen Adele or any other warbler.

Mythreefavouritethings · 12/09/2022 23:20

Apparently she was a fan of Pointless and Middy Murders, so while I can’t quite see the Pointless TV theme tune working in Westminster Abbey, I think the MM theme could be perfect. A touch of class, yes..? I hope HM had a hand in the music, I always like that sense of immersion in the music and readings that were meaningful to the individual, it’s a lovely way to sit with their memory awhile.

Dennis Waterman did a good theme tune

Hum the theme tune, sing the theme tune 😂😂😂😂😂

KnickerlessParsons · 12/09/2022 23:36

It'll be the nation's darling Katherine Jenkins (who went to my school) singing something classical.

op, you are CRACKERS

But maybe the proclaimers??

Septemberslooming · 12/09/2022 23:53
Bob Dylan's back on tour and Death is not the End would suit beautifully.
CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 12/09/2022 23:59

Any tune by Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves.

There’s so much beautiful choral & traditional music that is appropriate. Definitely no Elton John-esque warbling to revitalise a music career, sell a single & have a dig at The Firm at the same time.

Bollockstothat · 13/09/2022 02:06

Would like it to be "Enjoy yourself" by the Specials, which should really be played at every funeral.

StinkyWizzleteets · 13/09/2022 02:15

The muppets

The Sex Pistols?

A reprise of that number they did for the silver jubilee? Perfect

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 13/09/2022 02:45

pagopago · 09/09/2022 20:46

Gary Barlow - he wrote and sung 'Sing' for her 2012 jubilee.

That song makes me stabby, if they use that I may go on a murderous rampage.

Topseyt123 · 13/09/2022 02:46

Theme tune for a State Funeral! 🤣🤣

There won't be celebrity pop singers if that's what you mean. It will be a very formal occasion. Church music, hymns, choral music and probably some classical pieces.

Love some of the tongue in cheek suggestions on here though. Mine would be "Into the Valley" by The Skids. 🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2022 02:48

Don't be daft. There will be no 'theme song' it will be tradition boob if common prayer.

'The sentences' will be sung, an anthem and a few hymns. No space for secular music.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2022 02:48

Book

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2022 02:50

Hoping they sing the sentences to the setting by William Croft. And that they sing the setting of Psalmm104 that Prince Phillip commissioned for his funeral. That was stunning.

Reminds me of a wonderful bipolar patient I had years ago who chose "life is a cabaret' as the theme tune for when her coffin disappeared behind the curtains in the crematorium.,,

Love this!

I plan on "Itchycoo Park" myself.
