Who will do the theme song/tune for the funeral?

RIP Queen Elizabeth. Not a fan of the Royal Family but I had a lot of respect for the Queen.

For Diana’s funeral we had Elton doing CITW. Who do we think will do the honours here? I quite fancied Queen- the group- or Alfie Boe doing something?!

Please not bloody Adele or Sam Smith.

Andrew Lloyd Webber & Self Esteem.

Elgar's only tune will be trotted out again.

I think the Queen had a really fun sense of humour and would have thoroughly enjoyed having a 'theme tune' 🥰 She was always ready to join in with big events and I can imagine her now, looking down at all this planning and plotting, eating her marmalade sandwich and a slice of cake ☺️

I'm going with Sam Ryder, doing an adapted version of Spaceman:

"You're up in space Ma'am'

Our lovely Queen would find the humour in this and approve I think ☺️

🤣🤣🤣

Her favourite hymn is Praise My Soul the King of Heaven, but I think that might have been used at the Jubilee?

DogInATent · 09/09/2022 23:00

John Lydon..

Probably the sad Eastenders music.

😂😂😂

Thats it decided!!!

Duchess379 · 09/09/2022 23:01

Oh great, now I've got Little Britain skit 'sing the theme tooon' by a tiny Dennis Waterman stuck in my head 😆🤦🏼

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/09/2022 23:01

I'd love a full choir singing something with a good swell.

Probably more likely something choral from John Rutter

Unlikely, in my opinion. His stuff has its place, but is too lightweight for a state funeral.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/09/2022 23:03

Something like Perpetuum Mobile by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra would be good. Light and beautiful and a little fun.

DappledThings · 09/09/2022 23:04

Charles and Camilla had Farewell to Stromness at their wedding. Always seemed an odd choice for a wedding and much more suited to a funeral. If there were to be anything from a contemporary composer and if Charles has had any influence then that might be a possibility.

Whether it is a just a funeral or is a requiem mass will influence the music too.

Little Queenie - Chuck Berry?

Yeah, that’s bonkers. A theme tune for a funeral?! I mean, know Elton John cashed in on Diana’s death but this is a bit of a different situation…

How did he "cash in"?

Brian May has already done the roof gig

Great at the time, don't think we're ready for a repeat

Not sure that he can still get on the roof though...happy to be wrong though.

If I was planning it I would have the lord bless you and keep you by rutter

How about getting Queen to do something?

Sorry couldn't resist the pun!

Joking apart agree with posters that suggest likely to be choral music only

Killer Queen.

I thought that too. Didn't think much of his efforts for the wedding though.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 10/09/2022 22:30

Oh that is lovely!

The quote failed! I meant the lord bless you and keep you.

MintyGreenDreams · 10/09/2022 22:34

As long as they don't wheel out Elton John I'm happy

LuluBlakey1 · 10/09/2022 22:35

It is a State funeral. Very formal. Pomp, circumstance, military, pageantry, bagpies, classical and religious music and the bible. No 'theme song.'

Hbh17 · 10/09/2022 22:44

There will be no pop music or "celebrity" singers - thank goodness. It will be beautiful, restrained classical music, and hymns or psalms with religious significance of great meaning to The Queen and her family. A proper C of E funeral, in other words.
Possibly a piper, or something to reflect Scotland.
The Tavener piece is amazing, but not likely to be repeated after it was heard at Diana's funeral.
