Light hearted

Do you have a memory of floating down the stairs as a child? Someone mentioned it to me earlier and I have the same memory! anyone know what I’m on about?

I cannot believe I just read this. I too, have a child hood memory of ‘floating’ down the stairs after jumping!

how strange.

ChubbyBroccoli · 09/09/2022 21:59

I still have these dreams now, but mainly 'running' in effortless big floaty leaps. Definitely have a fake memory of descending my childhood staircase in a similar big slow leap.

Mfsf · 09/09/2022 22:00

Yes !!!! I’m glad I’m not the only one .

Pootle40 · 09/09/2022 22:01

I haven't got a clue what this thread is about

dun1urkin · 09/09/2022 22:05

Down here, everything floats 🎈

ThatThingOverThere · 09/09/2022 22:06

Yep. And I used to float around my dining room. Although I think it was lucid dreaming I’ve never had any like that as an adult.

Leela2 · 09/09/2022 22:07

I had this too, I remember so vividly being sat crossed legged floating down the stairs at night time, and floating into the room my parents were sitting at, hovering at the ceiling and watching them talking and watching tv. I was totally terrified, and still feel a bit panicky now remembering it, and that was over 40 years ago, I remember it as if it was yesterday. It was well before I'd heard or read about levitation or astral projection, I must have been around 7 or 8. I'm so glad so many other people recognise it, I've never spoken about it to anyone before.

OMG yes! This is a very vivid childhood memory for me, I can picture it now. Always going down, never up.

Yes, always down, never up.

Does anyone remember floating up?

Abcdefgh1234 · 09/09/2022 22:09

Omg i thought its only me. I’m not evenbritish nor grew up in the UK. I clearly remember i can floating on the stairs 🤣🤣 i guess that memory is childhood memory in children around the world. Or maybe children have super power but we lost it somehow 🤣🤣🤣🤣

ThatThingOverThere · 09/09/2022 22:10

I used to sort of bounced/flew around like slow motion trampolining in the dining room, but always floated down the stairs. Never up.

Ellami · 09/09/2022 22:10

Yes! How bizarre. As a young child I remember being scared of ghosts and being upstairs in my own. The loo was at the top of the staircase and I had convinced myself that if I didn’t make it down the stairs quickly after flushing the loo, I’d see a ghost (?!) so I developed a system of leaping the top few stairs, step down one or two, then make a gigantic leap over the rest to land in the hallway.
It wasn’t a dream because I remember trying to do this, but I vividly remember being able to take these quite long, almost slow motion floaty leaps without ever falling or smashing my knees. I still don’t know how I did it!

Agadoodoododont · 09/09/2022 22:11

There was a character in a children’s book who could suddenly grow, I think her legs suddenly became incredibly long , arms long so she could reach things. I became convinced at about the age of 5-6 I could do the same. Stood near the top of the stairs and just stepped out……..Crashed to the bottom of course, smack into a huge dresser that filled half the hallway. And I did it more than once.

Patapouf · 09/09/2022 19:49

Feet floated but my arms were on the bannister/wall supporting my weight 😂

Yes this.
Floated but arms controlling the weight and trajectory and speed.
Wow.
However even though I floated I had to avoid the creaky steps.

Sammy900 · 09/09/2022 22:11

No way I've had this!!

I have a vivid memory of jumping and clearing the whole staircase. I also remember trying to tell my parents at the time that I had jumped down the whole staircase in one and I got frustrated when they didn't believe me.

I still clearly remember it now.

Are you sure we just didn't all have this secret ability to do staircases in one go when no one else was looking?

PreColumbian · 09/09/2022 22:12

I’ve always had flying and floating dreams.

Felixfriend · 09/09/2022 22:13

No, but I do have a distinct memory of breathing underwater

I only believe it’s AP after an experience I had. When I was a teen I took a nap, everyone was at work. I floated down the stairs and into the kitchen where my mum was drinking a cup of coffee and reading a magazine. Then I woke up. I thought what an odd, pointless dream. Anyway I went downstairs and there was my mum, drinking a cup of coffee and reading a magazine. I couldn’t pick my jaw up off the floor. I asked her what she was doing home and she said she didn’t feel very well so came home. She was at work when I went to sleep!

Since then I haven’t had any more floating ‘dreams’. I’ve only recently been reading up on it a lot though as I’d love to initiate an astral projection. Loving this thread.

Jewelanemone · 09/09/2022 22:16

Yes! I would float down the stairs holding lightly onto the handrail. Always in my nightie. And my dad would always be up and having his breakfast downstairs before going to work. He did actually do this - he'd get up early, before my mum and me.

How strange and comforting that other people have very similar dreams!

blueshoes · 09/09/2022 22:18

Floating down the stairs is like the final scene in the movie The Blair Witch Project.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 09/09/2022 22:21

Wow I've never thought about this since I was a child but yes. Constantly dreamed and imagined this and it feels strong like a memory. I also always had nightmares of being trapped on the stairs and couldn't walk up with a scary witch character at the bottom. It was horrifying and I would be very upset.

All happening on the stairs!

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 09/09/2022 22:21

Mochudubh · 09/09/2022 19:58

Yes, up until I was about 9. I could float downstairs, hover on the ceiling and listen to adult conversations/watch the telly.

Yes!! I did this too in my head. How bizarre

SlightlySummerStill · 09/09/2022 22:25

Yes, I flew downstairs, and round the sitting room, under the lights. ( obviously I dreamt this)
I also did actually sledge down the stairs on a metal tray… it’s very fast

Jewelanemone · 09/09/2022 22:27

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/09/2022 20:52

Yes I had this too - I’d forgotten until now! But more unpleasantly I also often used to dream that I was running away from something and my arms and legs feeling like they were stuck in treacle.

Yes, I used to have this dream a lot, and still do occasionally. When I was little I used to dream that my mum was walking away from me up a long hill. I'd try to run to catch up with her but my legs wouldn't move properly and I couldn't catch her.

strawberriesarenot · 09/09/2022 22:30

I could never float upstairs, only down, but sometimes, very rarely, I could leave the house far, far behind moving upwards, not vertically, sort of moving out very swiftly on an upwards angle to some very high dark night point. It was a very lovely sensation, you had time to think with joy, Oh it's happening.
Then you would be nothing more than a tiny point yourself, sort of swinging or rocking.
I sound mad.

It had gone for decades and then a few years ago it happened again. I know it's just a falling asleep dream but the memory of moving into infinite space is still so strong.
