How did she decline so rapidly?

Not really trying to know the cause of the queen’s death although I have wondered but can’t get my head round that picture of her greeting Liz Truss to her death 2 days later.

Initially thought it must have been something acute like a stroke or heart but then it seems like she has been ailing (haven’t really taken note, other than palace statements of mobility issues).

Perhaps she had been bedridden for weeks and made a huge effort on Monday to fulfil her last duty but I’m inclined to think had that been the case more of her family would have been near.

@CapMarvel

You've literally made my day.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/09/2022 17:20

I'll just put it there so you can come up with all the conspiracies.

She looks very frail but I think it's a lovely pic.

I thought it was odd the Queen had gone to Balmoral in September when there was work in London to do with Liz Truss being named PM. Now it makes sense. It was her final days and it’s great she got to go in peace with some of her children close by.

I can’t imagine it’s easy being such a public figurehead and managing your death. At least Balmoral is a private space for her last days and it’s a good place for the family to take a moment before they have to face the public.

September is traditionally the best time to be in Scotland. It is the time of the Scottish 'season'.
The highland games happen, grouse shooting and there are lots of balls and parties. The queen would always have been at Balmoral then I think.

Dh declined very rapidly after his terminal cancer diagnosis, literally days.

he died 2hours after he was finally allowed to see our girls to say goodbye. He was holding on until then.

it happens like that. I’m guessing the queen fufilled her last duty and was able then to go

This is correct, notices were sent out last Friday by various agencies adding alerts for a significant event, we waited on pins for a few days and then saw the Queen with Truss on Tuesday and dismissed it. I mentioned this on another thread and got called a liar. Unfortunately when agencies run on contractors they need to workforce-plan for significant events and that involves telling people why you need to double their contracted hours at short notice, the alert was not explicit, but the task requested was very specifically linked to the demise of the Head of the Commonwealth.

She went quickly and peacefully hopefully, with the dignity she has always maintained throughout her life.

How or why she died is a personal matter though but it would seem that it was anticipated.

I work in local government in an elected role. We had a “London Bridge” meeting the day before she died, for which diary invitations had been sent about a week prior. There had never been any before that, at least in my 16 years.

Has it been said what time she passed away at on Thursday? The announcement about her health came out about lunch time I think, so I’m wondering if perhaps she had already passed at that point or perhaps they were indeed concerned about her health at that point and then she died shortly after?

No official time has been announced but we know that Liz Truss was told at 4.30pm.

I’ve heard people saying it was around 2pm but I’ve no idea how they could possibly know that!

Re the Queen being at Balmoral, she traditionally spent the whole of August and into September there every year. She wasn’t trying to avoid the Tory leadership nonsense!

She was told formally then but she will have known before, she already knew by lunchtime as this was what was being discussed in parliament when they were all whispering.

asblindasabat · 12/09/2022 12:49

I wonder what happened though.

she was old and declining anyway, I know, but she cancelled a privy council meeting last Wednesday so I’m wondering did she start to deteriorate then?

Or if she had like a stroke or something on Thursday morning and was maybe unconscious and then slipped away?

Jerabilis · 12/09/2022 12:56

its the way I want to go. My dad was walking home from a visit with old friends where they’d spent the afternoon reminiscing when his heart gave out. The doctors told us he was likely dead before he hit the floor.

My grandpa was a similar age to the queen when he died. My nana (his wife) passed away on the Friday morning suddenly and I saw my grandpa on the Saturday morning. He looked so alive and full of energy no ill health. he was arranging pictures of my nana around the house, talking to my husband about the football offering to cook us breakfast. A few hours later he was dead it was so sudden and I couldn’t quite believe how alive he’s been just hours earlier talking about boiling eggs.

i just think he couldn’t live without his wife of 70 years. Sometimes it happens very fast

Oh my goodness this must've been so traumatic for you and your family.

antelopevalley · 12/09/2022 13:16

She obviously had health problems for several years.
She may not have died of one particular cause but of a combination of causes. Very elderly people will often have a bit of cancer, a bit of heart failure, a bit of kidney problems, for example.

I know it’s difficult to believe anything Boris Johnson says, but I thought this quote about his last meeting with the Queen was interesting

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62880118

Describing their final meeting, when he offered his resignation, Mr Johnson said: "Given how ill she obviously was, how amazing it was that she be so bright and focused. It was a pretty emotional time."

Thing is, because he said it after her death was announced, it’s very easy to say. Given she died around 48 hours later it’s not a great leap to say she was obviously very ill at that point.

antelopevalley · 14/09/2022 15:22

It is not unusual for people to rally a few days before their death and get a burst of energy. It is so common that more experienced nurses working with terminal patients recognise it as a sign that the end is very near.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I wanted to ask about the corgis. She bought a new puppy fairly recently I think. Last couple of years. Who will take them?

I read somewhere over the last few days that Andrew is to have the dogs. I believe he purchased the newer puppy as a gift for her but sadly it died.

Pedo prince gets the pups

antelopevalley · 14/09/2022 17:36

Andrew has been shouting all over the press that he is taking in the Corgis. He is desperate for the public to accept him and get back into public life.

Personally I will just keep boosting on social media the video of him with Eugenie.

No he hasn’t been shouting it all over the press. Other people have been saying it.

@Teddletime I too have been wondering about the corgis . Obviously they will be cared for now by family or household members - but I do think they will miss her .

I have also wondered about the hanging on in there for a new PM this week . And of course all the jubilee celebrations earlier this year .

I have always thought similar with my grandmother - there were a couple of things she really wanted to see in her final year and then she was happy to go .

@shinynewapple22

They are just part of her household, and will be cared for by the same staff who will have cared for them all along. I very much doubt she has been spooning out the pedigree chum and walking them round the block with the poo bags of late, so life for them will go on pretty much as before I'm sure.

@5128gap actually you do the Queen a great disservice! She personally fed & walked the dogs every day she was able.

I stand corrected. Good for her!🙂
