Not really trying to know the cause of the queen’s death although I have wondered but can’t get my head round that picture of her greeting Liz Truss to her death 2 days later.

Initially thought it must have been something acute like a stroke or heart but then it seems like she has been ailing (haven’t really taken note, other than palace statements of mobility issues).

Perhaps she had been bedridden for weeks and made a huge effort on Monday to fulfil her last duty but I’m inclined to think had that been the case more of her family would have been near.

What's the theory about why would cancer be hidden? Is there supposed to be a conspiracy of shame around cancer?

I mean, conspiracy theories are all about "why" : who gains something from the conspiracy. You can't construct a conspiracy theory without the why part.

I guess the other essential ingredients are:

someone to be angry at who stood to gain from the death
an event that seems unusual
some kind of link to "powerful" people
need at least one victimised innocent

No one will construct a conspiracy theory about a homeless person (no link to powerful) who died of alcoholism with schizophrenia (not innocent) 2 days after they just scraped a pass grade in an exam (not strange), after social workers (nice people) tried hard to get them sober for years.

But someone will construct a conspiracy theory about a popular famous person (victimised innocent) who died unexpectedly (unusual event) after they divorced the daughter of a well-known but unpopular (someone to hate) politician (link to powerful people) and then... it's pretty easy to invent some reason for perceived person gain.

Have you read MN before? 😁

pigsDOfly · 09/09/2022 20:34

There comes a point where she should have been stopped.

She can't just be 'stopped'. She would have to abdicated, which is a massively complex process and from all we know of her that wasn't likely to happen.

Just because she was 96 doesn't mean she was mentally or physically incapable.

My exh's mother was nearly 102 when she died, prior to being admitted to hospital for something fairly minor that got worse over a number of days she was still cooking for her family and was mentally still fully alert.

While in hospital she went to sleep one night and didn't wake up.

And those posters saying she hung on until she could make sure Boris had gone.

You have no idea what she thought of Boris. She might have found him charming. After all her husband was hardly a discreet shrinking violet who knew when to hold his tongue.

They haven't "hidden" anything, there's no conspiracy, it's just not done to give private health details. We don't know what Prince Phillip died of either.

Stopped was probably the wrong word, but I do think there has to be a defined point when the HoS steps away from official duties, and before their death if needs be. Not necessarily officially abdicating but an acceptance that at 96 you just cannot be expected to perform the role and cannot reasonably expect to do so. Any other person is not expected or allowed to stay in their job until their mid 90's, and for good reason.

What happens if the monarch gets to that age and has dementia or some other condition? For the sake of actually being capable of doing the job - and it is a job, paid for by the taxpayer - and for their own health this idea of king/queen till death should be done away with.

onlythreenow · 09/09/2022 21:29

I find all the speculation and in particular the posters who have been examining her photograph with LT for possible telltale signs (her hands, dilated pupils, the fact that she's wearing a cardigan etc) and playing a game of 'Guess What Killed Her Majesty' very odd. She was a very old woman and she died in a place she loved with family at her side which is a good way to go in the scheme of things. Surely that's all that matters.

I totally agree, it is very distasteful. As for all those who can't understand how someone can just die without having had a terminal illness or a sudden event, I find that very odd. When people reach a great age their body and their organs start slowing down, and at some stage everything just stops. Hearts can be failing for some time before they give out completely, it doesn't have to be some great dramatic event.

I wonder did HM know she was about to pass or if she had been asleep 💔

Does anyone know which breath will be their last?

headstone · 09/09/2022 21:58

I think they will put old age in the certificate.

bellabasset · 09/09/2022 22:06

I expect that possibly only her 4 children, dil's and possibly the Cambridges knew the details of any illness. She'd invited family to visit during the summer and both Charles, Camilla and Anne were staying nearby so were able to visit her easily. I wasn't surprised to hear she'd died having seen that photo of her looking so frail when she saw Liz Truss on Tuesday.

I was told my dh would have 6 to 9 months when he was diagnosed with cancer but it wasn't 2 months and he was only 64.

She did step away from the duties she felt she couldn't perform though.

My 97 yr old Grandma lived independently until she died. My mum and her sister went to visit one evening and saw her safely into bed. They were quietly chatting at the end of the bed and then noticed ‘she had gone’. It was a lovely way to go, no dementia, no acute illness and she died in her own home with her daughters present.

I think it is quite possible they recorded two separate clips say a week or even a couple of weeks ago of her receiving Sunak and Truss. Delete the one not needed, pretty straightforward. No papers are signed or visible on the tv clips it’s just a bit of theatre and symbolism.

Excuse me ma'am - we're going to record these in case you die before 6th.
I don't think so.

ScruffMuffin · 09/09/2022 23:50

Speaking of conspiracy theories... no doubt somebody will be along soon to tell us she's not really dead and has escaped the country, or other such nonsense.

"Cut!!! "

"Thank you Mr Rishi! "

"Could you send Ms Truss through on your way out? "

"Now Ma'am if you could just take up the pose by the fireplace again "

😁😁😁😁

I thought it was odd the Queen had gone to Balmoral in September when there was work in London to do with Liz Truss being named PM. Now it makes sense. It was her final days and it’s great she got to go in peace with some of her children close by.

I can’t imagine it’s easy being such a public figurehead and managing your death. At least Balmoral is a private space for her last days and it’s a good place for the family to take a moment before they have to face the public.

asblindasabat · 10/09/2022 01:02

Has it been said what time she passed away at on Thursday? The announcement about her health came out about lunch time I think, so I’m wondering if perhaps she had already passed at that point or perhaps they were indeed concerned about her health at that point and then she died shortly after?

Anyone can die suddenly. My 85 year old father in law was doing his shopping in the supermarket and dropped dead in the aisle.

My late MIL’s 90 year old friend died while playing her weekly game of bingo at the local Conservative Club.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 07:34

Of course people are wondering because it's not often and especially a royal has been working two days before death
We are shocked..
There was no wind down ...the queen is I'll, k and out of hospital.... resting, her family visiting her....she was simply gone.
And no .... most of her family did not see her!

Many older people have those marks on their hands.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/09/2022 11:17

A friend’s mother, who hadn’t been ill, just died in her sleep at 94. I’ve known of another case the same, someone in their 90s.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/09/2022 17:10

The photographer who took the photograph of Liz Truss and the Queen and then the last photo of the Queen alone, says the Queen was "happy and smiley" and was walking on her stick and the image was not posed. They chatted about the weather.

Can we put all the conspiracy theory - she was on oxygen , she was posed, the picture was re touched, they were hiding something - to bed now?

It's good to know she was up, in her right mind and doing her duty as she always felt was correct, right up to what must have been a very sudden death.

Aye, because she would definately tell the truth if the Queen was struggling.

She definately wouldn't be signing an NDA or anything.

Not at all.
