Charles II died from illness.

Charles has said he wants to be known as George VII in memory of his grandfather & because 'King Charles' has connotations of being beheaded.
Newsreaders has just said Charles III but think there will be some discussion on this .

Why? He is King now. The moment the Queen passed he became king. It’ll be ages till the coronation but he is instantly King by law.

Yes - I think it's showing a touching faith in Liz Truss to assume she'd be any more correct in this, than she is about anything else.

I think he probably will be King Charles III, though.

Sorry, but not all of us are monarchists. I don't feel I have to treat them with reverence that they don't really deserve.
That said, I do feel sad about the Queen - I think she did her best and as monarchs go, was a good one.

I wonder how this will work in Scotland. Some Scottish won’t accept him as Charles iii. I think he may have to adopt different regnal numbers.
