We're supposed to be having a preview evening tomorrow in the cathedral for an art exhibition, and I've just been told it will be cancelled if the queen dies.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/09/2022 18:22

I'd turn off but sod's law an' all that....

Give Edwards his due, he's gallantly waffling. How the heck is he doing this?

CoconutSky · 08/09/2022 18:22

There’s a luxaviation flight landing at Aberdeen from London. Wonder if that’s it

Westfacing · 08/09/2022 18:23

Regarding Harry, the BBC said about 4 hours ago he was on his way!

Burpeea · 08/09/2022 18:19

BBC and ITV websites black bannered and journalists not allowed home. It is imminent but no one seems to know when!

Still showing as red on my screen

shedwithivy · 08/09/2022 18:19

But what would the optics be if the announcement was made just as he comes running up the driveway

They know Harry is on his way but don't think Zara or Peter are ?

My cousin's aunty's dog worked at the BBC in 1994 and I now have it on good authority an announcement will be made at 18.27

@Thegroaninggurner I bet he's busting for a wee and a cuppa

Clive Myrie was on for a bit earlier. Odds on that’s why.

The banner on BBC just turned black for a second then back to red.

We noticed that before. I think it's when they are announcing a reporter's name - it happened a couple of times when Chris Mason was talking, and then went back to red.

Burpeea · 08/09/2022 18:23

@Maireas scroll down to the bottom of the BBC news site. ITV gone very black.

Justwanttobebythesea · 08/09/2022 18:24

I can't turn it off either just in case I miss the official announcement. Had the DDs gathered at 6pm due to the "reliable" sources on MN. Hope there is some kind of announcement soon (and would be nice if it was some positive news but sadly I don't think so)

People don’t pass to order to fit in with prime time news schedules. My FIL bounced back twice from his last rites, the third and last time he dragged it over for three weeks with a 24 presence at the bed. We can never know - maybe there is hope.
If only Huw would switch into a track suit we could all breathe a sigh of relief.

Not by any means saying it would happen these days, and just a by the by, but my Mum mentioned earlier while we were talking about this dreadful news coverage that it was always rumoured that her Grandfather, King George V was "helped" on his way...."The King's doctor Lord Dawson, who admitted to killing the King at 11pm on 20 January 1936, so the death would be on the front pages of The Times newspaper the next day."

The true nature of his death was unknown for 50 years, until the royal archives released Lord Dawson's diary in 1986, and with it a sensational secret.

'At about 11 o'clock, it was evident that the last stage might endure for many hours, I therefore decided to determine the end and injected three-quarters gram of morphia (morphine) and shortly afterwards one gram of cocaine into the distended Juglar vein,' the entry reads."😳

That’s exactly what happened when the reporters name flashed up.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/09/2022 18:25

There is no protocol that says any of them have to be there. The Queen was in Kenya when her father's death was announced.

I think it would be harsh thing to announce death whilst Harry was travelling. Which he still appears to be. Protocol or not.

JustLyra · 08/09/2022 18:25

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 18:16

Why do people think Prince Harry not being there would hold up an announcement? What about Peter Phillips her oldest grandchild? Or his sister Zara.

Just perhaps her death has not been announced because she is still alive?

Because Harry is travelling, the other two aren’t.

They won’t want years of comments about how he missed it/was late etc/the family hate him so much they announced it when he was in the airport etc.

Also Harry is one of the people whose title will change automatically (he’ll be HRH The Prince Henry). His father will be King.

Theres a proper royal way to do things and that’s what they’ll do.

00100001 · 08/09/2022 18:25

OneFrenchEgg · 08/09/2022 18:22

'Because if it has happened. The family need to be told first and properly.'

Seriously? You think if she died hours ago they'd not tell Harry until he arrived? And just have Charles ringing round all the rellies from an old address book? I'm not buying it. I think all this 'insider info' is bull.

No.

But it makes sense for the family to be together when the announcement is made.

Imagine the news being announced whilst Harry is still driving over....

Poppyseed14 · 08/09/2022 18:25

Lady Colin Campbell announced earlier on her YouTube channel that the Queen passed at 14.37 today from bone cancer.

Vapeyvapevape · 08/09/2022 18:25

I know it's all repetition but I take my hat off to the news team to keep this going.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 18:25

I thought Harry had been in Germany but was in the UK already today. So what's the fucking hold up?

Strangeways19 · 08/09/2022 18:25

CanadaGoose72 · 08/09/2022 16:38

I thought she looked terrible in that last photo of her. Hands were purple!

She's an amazing lady. It's so sad.

I thought the purple hands might be because she's had a drip or something in her hand recently,? Possible

I saw that earlier - horrible woman.

FabbyO · 08/09/2022 18:26

A few hours ago MNHQ were deleting posts immediately that stated or suggested the Queen had died.

Now MNHQ aren't deleting posts like that.

It’s quite a way to Balmoral. Even when they get to Aberdeen it’s another hour away

BraveGoldie · 08/09/2022 18:26

I'm sitting here in tears.... I was at a funeral today for a friend who died of breast cancer at 36..... and now this.
The queen is sixty years older than my friend.......what a life she has lead and I have so much respect for her. Just a very sad day.... I have my fingers crossed for her......

CatsandFish · 08/09/2022 18:26

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 18:22

There is no protocol that says 'family' must be there. That's nonsense. Prince Harry does not need to be there for the announcement to be there.

Her children are there. The heir to the throne is their and the future heir.

There is no protocol that says any of them have to be there. The Queen was in Kenya when her father's death was announced.

I'm trying to find where I read it. But the site said the protocol was for the Queen especially, for her death. So maybe the rules/protocol have changed since her father's death. Or, maybe the site was wrong. Or I read it wrongly. Anyway I'll keep looking.
