Extremely rude doctor

This is more of a vent than anything else.

In my GP practice you don't get a face to face, you get a phone call then a face to face if deemed necessary. That's fine, no issue with that.

You have to state what you are calling for to the receptionist so I stated stomach issues and period problems.

The doctor calls and asks how he can help.

I begin saying - I'm calling for Two things that may or may not be related.. one is a pain in my stomach, one is period pains.. he cuts me off right there and says .. I don't have time for a list of issues.

What's your stomach pain he asks - dull ache, coming and going, few centimeters to the right and below belly button, been going on few weeks. He says - it's just your bowels, it is very normal. I question that - I'm 36, never had this pain before.

Then I say - about my period - he goes - I don't have time to be talking about periods and all that, quickly give me the highlights. I could not believe the rudeness of him. Highlights - 12 days between a period, sometimes 7 weeks, extremely painful through to my back and bum - cannot physically move, blood clots, very heavy, would consider a hysterectomy it is that bad. (Took me about 30 seconds to give him that run down) Ok he says, i dont have time to deal with this today and you need to call back another day for a new appointment and request a female doctor.

I was gobsmacked at his rudeness. The phone call lasted under 5 mins. I understand they are under alot of pressure but his rudeness was terrible. I didn't realise you couldn't talk about 2 issues (that may be related) at the same appointment.

Of course it's discrimination. Refusing to treat 'womens problems'

He didn't refuse anything. He said

Ok he says, i dont have time to deal with this today and you need to call back another day for a new appointment and request a female doctor.

And he probably didn't have time to go into what seemed like quite a lot of concerns that would likely take more than the time slot he had to talk to the OP. Her symptoms suggested she might a face to face appointment for a physical examination, not a 5-10 minute chat over the phone. GPs don't just phone one patient a day. Other patients will have been waiting.

He was rude, he was short but he did not discriminate against the OP.

@iklboo you seem abit relentless in your posts defending this male gp.. are you his wife?

It wasnt alot of concerns. It was 1 issue, possibly 2, with several symptoms. When a GP calls you, you talk them through your symptoms! If you then need a face to face they then book you in - has always been that way! What is the point in calling otherwise? Never, have i had a telephone call and a GP tell me, I don't have time, call back and worse, ask for a female! What's the point in the first call? I had an appointment yesterday. And wait this will shock you .. it was a phone call 😲 .. I spoke through list of symptoms .. the gp then booked me in.. she felt stomach, done couple of tests, none of them intimate and then arranged and booked appointments for several different tests to be done over the coming days. There is no reason, no acceptable reason anyway, as to why the male gp could not of done exactly what the female gp done yesterday. Hope this clears it up for you.

He sounds awful! I can’t stand the ‘you can only discuss one issue’ thing. What if the issues are linked? They are also forgetting that it’s very difficult to get an appointment at the moment. Surely an extra minute to discuss a second issue means freeing up an appointment for another patient?

why can’t @iklboo be the GP rather than his wife?

And I often see this… when a poster sticks by their stance against an op they are accused of being in some way related to the person concerned or the person themselves. It is possible to have a strong differing opinion and not be the person in question or related to them!

shrunkenhead · 10/09/2022 11:20

Usually if you have two issues you're asked to book a double appointment. I'm guessing he was just v busy.

iklboo · 10/09/2022 12:10

Yes I'm definitely his wife. He came home and told me your name, address, showed me your medical records and had a right laugh.

What do you think? Just because I'm not 'oh no hun you poor thing'. I've said he was rude. But he didn't actively discriminate against you.

And a bit is two words, not one.

Percypigfanatic · 24/09/2022 05:18

Hi Op! How are you getting on, have you had the further tests yet?

Babysitter12 · 29/09/2022 14:27

Practices are very busy, they cant spend all day listening to someone whining on about every issue they have. There could be a life or death patient waiting
