@derxa what do you do? It's not about me - this is an internet forum discussing political matters. I used to work in Whitehall with honourable members such as Vince Cable, Peter Mandelson (I had to hold my nose) and others. I despair at how this cabal of reactionary shits has done to our democracy. Have a listen to John Major I agree with every single syllable.

You might not like her but you do not have 1% of her guts. You snipe from the side lines. What do you do to improve life for the needy in the UK?

Are you arguing that ordinary people have no business criticising politicians, because politicians are social leaders and we're not? You're a Conservative voter aren't you?

What a strange comment. How do you know what the PP does? They might be a charity worker, a nurse, a volunteer for all you know. And what makes you think Liz Truss has "guts"? Unless you mean ambition, which she clearly has in droves.

Yes, everything about derxa's post there was idiotic.

You're damn right I am.

Cheers love. I don't believe vera helps anyone in the community. I do lots.

StarDolphins · 05/09/2022 22:30

@83DanishMum nobody currently. I have flitted from Labour to Tories for many years with no loyalty to either party. Probably more votes for CP but I passionately dislike Truss, Starmer & Corbyn.

if there was a GE now at this point, I wouldn’t vote. Awful I know, but absolutely none of them are fit for purpose imo.

I think there is a breed of Conservative voter who enjoys the feeling of being charitable, while simultaneously voting in the government whose policies have by and large made the lives of the most vulnerable people in our communities more miserable.

So you're only allowed to criticize a political leader if you yourself are either a politician or a charity worker?

Vera isn't seeking to be Prime Minister; nor are you (presumably) or I. Does that mean that we don't have a right to an opinion?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. If you criticise politicians then get elected. That's my point. I'd vote for Andy Burnham

Good for you. But how do you know what Vera or anyone else here does or doesn't do - or are in a position to do; plenty of people here may be needy people themselves?

izimbra · 05/09/2022 22:56

"If you criticise politicians then get elected." - these days so many Conservatives have this weird autocratic bent. Only power can talk to power. Not in power? Shut up and take what you're given.

Blimey. Not everyone can or should get elected. It's one thing to say that those who criticize politicians should vote; another to demand that we all get elected!

I would vote for Andy Burnham too; not sure what your point is there?

By the way, I have voted for both Labour and LibDems in my time; and I did not vote for Labour under Corbyn. It's not the case that every non-Tory loves Corbyn!

I,m calling it now. Despite the energy companies making vast profits on the current cap level. she will freeze it at say 2.5k and people will be grateful they arent paying 3.5k even though the energy companies could have cut costs and still make huge profits. and people will be thankful for it and forget all the other shit they have done over the last 3 years

Three years?

This clusterfuck has been going on for much longer than that.

Norachance · 05/09/2022 23:10

I agree, Kier is just not a contender. I want to vote Labour but no chance I will until they overhaul.

How bad does it have to get for you? You really don’t want to vote Labour very badly if you won’t do it now.

Does anyone else feel like we’re collectively living in an episode of ‘Beadle’s About’?

She's like if an Armando Iannucci sketch came to life.

She's wanted nothing but power her whole life, and she's moved wherever she thought she could get that power. Hasn't had a single principle she's stood for; finger permanently in the air to see where the wind is blowing.

The problem is that now she's the wind. And I have absolutely no idea what she's going to do now that she doesn't have someone to toady to.

She's a parody of governance.

Very astute observation.

I don't care that Liz Truss is our new PM.

I feel like I should. But I'm at the point now, where it doesn't really matter who is leading the shower of shit, I'm resigned to it all remaining a shower of shit.

Politics needs to change. People are increasingly losing trust in our political system, and I think that's a very sorry state of affairs. I want to care, but I can't bring myself to.

I agree. It's too depressing to even contemplate.

vera99 · 06/09/2022 07:49

My brother's mother-in-law in her 80s is a wonderful person . the great matriarch , fantastic mother and grandmother pillar of the community, church goer and a kind caring, the person who fills every day with work and selfless support for community ventures. She currently acts as an unpaid volunteer in the local heritage centre and was previously a JP. She is also a conservative party member, voted for Liz Truss, voted for Brexit and thinks Boris should never have been deposed. We used to along with my brother and nephew joust at family get together good-naturedly and with passion. I'm more reserved now at going there as my passions are high and I love her too much to let chin wag get in the way of loving family relations.

If that's you @derxa I will see you at Christmas! If not I'm sure her advice would be to get off the internet and do something more useful instead. sage advice indeed. I'm not going to list what I do for my partner, the community, my family or charity because in the context of this discussion it's frankly irrelevant. But I refer the right honourable lady again to the words of a fine Tory PM I hope she takes them to heart.

This kind of sycophancy is so strange. Sometimes people just want power for its own sake. Johnson should have taught you that much. Or indeed virtually any other leader.
