You sound about 16.

At best

Rafferty10 · 05/09/2022 14:37

To be fair unless you moved home in the last year there is no reason to be paying a 6k fuel bill. If people didn't choose to fix (I did and paid an early exit fee to do so because it was so clear where energy prices were going) last September that isn't the states problem.

Don't be idiotic, millions like me WERE on fixed tarifs that we carefully chose only to find our companies went bust, and we were forced on to very expensive alternatives, l went from a 2 year fix with green energy paying 16p per KWH to being forced to move to Shell on 42p per kwh.(soon to be much more)

You were purely lucky, so don't be so patronising.

knittingaddict · 05/09/2022 14:37

This is the best the Conservatives could do? How depressing.

MissyB1 · 05/09/2022 14:37

I’m beginning to wish Putin would bloody press the button, at least it would be a quick death!

Xpologog · 05/09/2022 14:38

She’ll be a disaster > General Election> Labour win. Job done, the country rejoices.

ilyx · 05/09/2022 14:40

Swifey40 · 05/09/2022 12:47

I agree! It's looking bad, really bad now! I don't love Rishi, but he was the better option! This winter looks pretty scary!

I’m quite glad about this as she’ll be so unpopular in a general election surely Labour are bound to get more seats

Crunchymum · 05/09/2022 12:45

Let the downfall commence!

’commence’?!?!?! 😵‍💫

People could choose a supplier who produces as a hedge. Bulb were always a rubbish choice because there is no upside to them of higher wholesale costs. There is more to choosing an energy supplier than raw price. The deal I am on is with British gas which as part of centrica is insulated well or can benefit from higher wholesale prices. This deal was available less than a year ago fixed for 3 years.

@FreddyHG mumsnetters think that hedges are only required to keep snooping neighbours out of their gardens.

The idea of complex derivative financial instrument strategies being a key driver in the energy crisis is completely lost on everybody….. People here think that both the government and energy suppliers are out to rob them - it’s more complicated than that though, innit ?

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 05/09/2022 14:41

As far as poor leaders go, you'd have to be going some to fuck up as badly as Boris did to get kicked out. Whatever one actually thinks of him, this is an individual who had an 80 seat majority, had removed nearly all credible opponents within the party and who enjoyed just about the most potent combination of loyalty and fear imaginable from his own parliamentary party. To manage to throw that all away in slightly over two and a half years because of a series of completely unforced idiotic decisions is, whatever you think of him, an absolutely remarkable feat of bad leadership.

It's worth pondering just how bad a rut we're currently in that any PM following this could still seem just as dipshit in comparison.

SemperIdem · 05/09/2022 14:42

She cannot actually be stupid, nobody who ends up as PM can be, I know that. However an individual more truly unprincipled, vacuous and lacking in charisma would be hard to find.

jcyclops · 05/09/2022 14:42

Her actual speech as written on her crib sheets, handed to a member of the press:

During this leadership campaign, I campaigned as a Conservative and I will govern as a Conservative.
[look smug]
And my friends, we need to show that we will deliver over the next two years.
[look round audience for friends - there must be some]
I will deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy.
[gurn]
[now cross fingers]
I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with rich people’s energy bills, but also dealing with the long term issues we have on energy supply.
And I will deliver on the National Health Service
[uncross fingers, try not to smirk]
But we all will deliver for our country.
[gurn during awkward pause]
And I will make sure that we use all the fantastic talents of the Conservative party, our brilliant members of parliament who voted for me, our peers and donors, our fantastic councillors, our MSs [the Taffs], our MSPs [the Jocks], all of our councillors and activists and members right across England our country. Because, my friends, I know that we will deliver [insert good idea], we will deliver [insert good idea] and we will deliver [insert good idea].
[look smug]
And we will deliver a great victory for the Conservative Party in 2024. Thank you.
[gurn]

Could the pair of you be any more smug and patronising? Do you honestly think this makes you look smart?

hamstersarse · 05/09/2022 14:44

These are the same comments and themes that were said about Boris, would have been said about Rishi and will be said about anyone just because they are ‘Tories’

People forget about the silent majority who lurk in such conversations and cba engaging with the hysterical vacuous rhetoric.

Almost nothing that has been stated here about Truss is true. But it’s pointless for people to engage in debate on these threads, far too hysterical.

strawberriesarenot · 05/09/2022 14:44

I think she will be wonderful.

I saw an interview with someone she worked under and he said how awful and disorganised she was at the job! I can’t remember who it was with but it was on the BBC.

larry4PM · 05/09/2022 14:46

I don't care that Liz Truss is our new PM.

I feel like I should. But I'm at the point now, where it doesn't really matter who is leading the shower of shit, I'm resigned to it all remaining a shower of shit.

Politics needs to change. People are increasingly losing trust in our political system, and I think that's a very sorry state of affairs. I want to care, but I can't bring myself to.

Neverendingdust · 05/09/2022 14:47

Well no shocks there then. Are the Twitter screenshots of her tweet RIP-ing Jimmy Saville real?

the80sweregreat · 05/09/2022 14:48

Phillip Hammond stopped short yesterday of saying ' it'll be a disaster', you had to read between the lines there
This is a conservative saying this. One who is far more competent than she will ever be

Suzi888 · 05/09/2022 14:49

A few of you sound…. Unhinged. Politics always bring out the worst in people.
What the hell is a rabbit woke lefty loser when it’s at home… 🙄

SueSaid · 05/09/2022 14:49

She might be great, well have to wait and see. Thing about her is she might be stilted and lack BJ's charisma and likeability but she seems quite steely. I get the impression she doesn't suffer fools so might be a bit tougher with the backstabbing backbenchers and the baying opposition.

I strongly suspect that if everyone in the country each had a vote with equal weight then liz would not have become PM

Stupid isn't a useful phrase here, I agree. But as we saw with her predecessor, you can be arrogant enough to trap yourself in lies and fatally misread the public mood.

We'll see.

hamstersarse · 05/09/2022 14:51

I strongly suspect that you exist in an echo chamber and have probably never even met a Brexit voter

gnilliwdog · 05/09/2022 14:52

It's just a free for all for the tories, stuffing their pockets before inevitable collapse. They would have put Larry the cat in if they could get away with it.

Swizandswap · 05/09/2022 14:52

Here we go the vocal minority on MN bashing another female priminister who has not held the position for even a couple of hours.

There really are some desperate corbinites and starmerites on here. Its a shame a majority of the county never vote labour isn't it, reading this you know why.
