Remember when Trump got elected, and people thought it was the end of the world. Didn't happen.

Oh dear. Someone doesn't read the news.

The seat of democracy was stormed by a baying mob at the steer of the President who has also committed Espionage putting American lives at risk and now their democracy is at grave risk of collapse resulting in a destruction of the entire world order and thereby handing a gift to Russia and China....

umpaumpajumps · 05/09/2022 14:05

Aww look at all the rabbit woke lefty looser`s quoting me, its just a shame that a majority does not agree with any of you do they! That is obvious as labour never seem to get in power 😂

Cry more, Liz is in power so deal with it.

All those claiming to know what Liz is going to do are talking out of their back sides.

She has not even had chance to sort out a cabinet until tomorrow and not official been put in place by the queen yet. Typical MN Woke lefty's all rabidly banging crap out on their keyboards wildly as she is not a labor leader.

Never read as much completer and utter shit as posted in this thread 😂

The irony of you accusing people of rabid keyboard bashing when you’ve managed to butcher every other word you’ve banged out 🤣

kikisparks · 05/09/2022 14:06

I laughed when she said Boris Johnson is admired from Kyiv to Carlisle, interesting to choose the city on the border given he is very clearly not admired in Scotland!

Other than that not much to laugh about, it’s going to be awful.

Can anyone please link me to something that sets out Liz Truss' intentions with regards to labour laws and workers' rights? I've tried myself, but all I can find are various articles that are called something along the lines of 'Liz Truss urged to come clean on workers' rights which aren't particularly insightful or helpful.

Has anything been set in stone or is this speculation?

Nothing's set in stone until it's been through parliament, and until a policy statement is made, everything's speculation. Even then, definite intentions aren't really known until a white paper is published. Something like this would normally be included in the Queen's speech, but it wasn't.

However, it's been widely rumoured for some time that both Rees-Mogg and Kwarteng have both been promoting this, and it's totally in keeping with Rees-Mogg's views. We know that Truss thinks workers don't "graft" enough, so it's consistent with that statement too. I suspect that the working hours regs will be going down the shitter, and that given the ongoing strikes, union rights may well be watered down even more.

At the moment, it's still a rumour, but an utterly credible one. We may get something more definite at party conference in October, when policies are often announced.

Her dad has disowned her.
I hope that her dad is a mumsnetter!
I wanted to give her a chance to be fair ( I wanted Rishi) but her speech was awful
Have to see how it pans out

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 05/09/2022 14:08

On the contrary, she's appointed her cabinet already and they've been in conversion for the last fortnight. The visit to the queen is merely a formality.

What exactly are "Woke lefty's" [sic] and why do they have Rabies?

I don't think anyone knows what Liz is going to do! Least of all, Liz herself!

I note that you refer to the 'labor leader'. While I don't usually nitpick about spelling, the word is spelled 'Labour' in the UK, and 'Labor' in the US and Australia- so it makes me wonder if you are just copying American right-wing cliches.

cry??? Grin

I’m not the sad act acting as if a political parties decision is a personal achievement. Your politics are up to you but wearing it like a sheep in a field munching on a blue rosette is just a bit weird tbh.

are you forgetting that a LOT of energy suppliers went bust and all their customers just got moved to a new energy provider on the standard tariff, therefore losing their carefully picked fixed tariffs through no fault of their own!!

People could choose a supplier who produces as a hedge. Bulb were always a rubbish choice because there is no upside to them of higher wholesale costs. There is more to choosing an energy supplier than raw price. The deal I am on is with British gas which as part of centrica is insulated well or can benefit from higher wholesale prices. This deal was available less than a year ago fixed for 3 years.

Daisychainsandglitter · 05/09/2022 14:11

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the Tories

Best of a bad job. Rishi would be worse!

Rishi was sunk as soon as it became public knowledge that his wife was avoiding huge amounts of UK income tax.

Caught out in a flagrant act of "one rule for them, another for us"

Oh dead indeed, clearly fogetting no major global conflicts, North and South Korea at the table.

Luckily Biden has come along and saved the world and USA, by not promoting major global conflcit with China and Russia and Syria and ...

Her biggest problem is that only a 3rd of the membership voted for her & wasn't the MPs choice either... so she has no mandate with the party.

I would imagine she expected to do better amongst the membership. It was always likely that anyone who ended up on the ballot would be running against Rishi, and she did poll quite favourably compared to him back when the MPs were still whittling down the candidates. It's interesting that we didn't see that fully reflected in the voting numbers.

Agree though, it's a real problem for her. And to that I'd add that a lot, perhaps a majority but at least a significant minority of Tories really didn't want to get rid of Johnson at all and are still working through some anger and grief there. So whoever followed him would also have to deal with the possibility of being blamed for that in a roundabout way, even if they had stayed loyal. I don't think we can call yet how big a deal this is going to be, but there's definitely going to be an element of This Wasn't Supposed To Happen bubbling beneath the surface.

^

Yes to all this, compounded by the fact that once Boris had completed his speaking tour of the USA and paid back his wallpaper bill he'll be stirring the pot from the back benches whilst resuming his spiteful little Telegraph column.

He's the least selfless person I've ever seen in government and there's no way he chose to stay on as an MP to help his constituents. It's so that he can make life hard for the new PM and keep himself in the thick of it.

Rabbit woke lefty losers? I didn't know that rabbits voted Labour!

Liz is the one who has to deal with things now; and I doubt that she will.

Irrelevant

If a big chunk of the population cannot afford to pay their energy bills that is a massive problem for the state.

If businesses, for which energy caps do not apply, start
going under left right and centre, you think that’s not an issue for the state?

Because you don’t approve of people who didn’t fix their energy bills.

Can you truly be this dim?

What majority? A proportion of Tory party members? 🤣

“rabbit woke lefty looser`s” indeed.
Why can none of the Liz supporters spell or use an apostrophe correctly. 💀
A four word phrase and you manage to make three mistakes in it!

I wouldn't be surprised if he does fuck off to something more lucrative in the short to medium term future. Depends how much there still might be to come out about him and whether it could be used to prevent him attempting to become PM again as and when Truss is out on her arse. But absolutely, whether in Parliament or not he's going to be outside the tent pissing in now. I agree his Telegraph column is unlikely to be supportive!

Nancydrawn · 05/09/2022 14:17

She's like if an Armando Iannucci sketch came to life.

She's wanted nothing but power her whole life, and she's moved wherever she thought she could get that power. Hasn't had a single principle she's stood for; finger permanently in the air to see where the wind is blowing.

The problem is that now she's the wind. And I have absolutely no idea what she's going to do now that she doesn't have someone to toady to.

She's a parody of governance.

Set in stone wasn't really the right turn of phrase, sorry - I meant more along the lines of whether this was based on anything in particular that someone has said, or whether it was a rumour that can't be traced back to anything specific.

It 100% sounds like something JRM would be interested in but I thought I'd read that KK was against reducing workers' rights, though of course his opinions on this could have changed.
