To think we're about to witness a repeat of Labour's wrong Miliband brother moment?

How Liz will won above Rishi is beyond me. I mean, I know they're both Tories and we are where we are but her interview with Laura K on Sunday really worried me.

I feel like the country is on a knife edge waiting to see what she will announce and I'm 99% sure it just won't be enough and it will start a chain of events that will make for such a difficult time for this country.

I do think it would be stopped if Rishi were PM or at least kerbed but I feel that the Tory party are about to make the wrong decision with who they chose and with it will bring dire consequences for the country.

I would think it would make them unelectable but if they've selected an ERG PM then who knows any more? Maybe I'm just a cynic but I'm so concerned about the next few weeks and months.

Why would anyone want Rishi as PM? He partly responsible for the problems of inflation by printing huge amounts of money during the pandemic. His solution is to massively increase NI on the few workers left to pay for this largesse. Not very Conservative. I'm not a big fan of Truss but she is the better of the two by far in my opinion.

I knew you would miss Boris' speeches, and here we are. He WAS very very good at them, and people took it forgranted.

Next you will be joining the campaign to bring him back....

It is a funny old world

What, like that Peppa Pig one? That was a cracker. I can't think of a more overrated public speaker once he got into the job of PM.

UnnecessaryFennel · 05/09/2022 13:06

Oh well. Good luck everyone. We're going to need it.

vera99 · 05/09/2022 13:08

Boris:
Forgive me
Forgive me
Forgive me
Liz:
We will deliver
We will deliver
We will deliver
Okay and for my next trick ....

the80sweregreat · 05/09/2022 13:08

We certainly do need some luck .
A disastrous day all round

Crowd had to literally be forced to clap when she said boris was admired from kyiv to Carlisle.

Yes the silence before someone started clapping was excruciating.

And less of the vote share than expected. Going to be a bumpy ride.

Rishi on skyscanner right now booking his flight to the US.

Dibbydoos · 05/09/2022 13:08

Ben Wallace was the only person for the job. Liz is supported because there's a coup on behind the scenes to oust her in a few months and get Boris back! She's going to be easier to oust than Rishi, who btw was also partying at no 10 during lockdown and was fined, so he is a dishonest, lying toad too.

But we are in this shit cos this government has allowed utilities to charge UK citizens gas prices based on the international cost not the UK cost. The UK cost isn't the highest cos by far yet European countries who pay more have seen their utility costs increase by 30-40%. That's what we have all been shafted with. Ofgem needs disbanding. A massive windfall tax needs to be applied.

This government need to go. They are by a long shot (& I thought Margaret Thatcher was awful) the worst government ever.

At least the last Labour government kept the UK shielded from the last global recession. This bunch of bastards have made every citizen into the UK cannon fodder.

HRTQueen · 05/09/2022 13:10

Well no as Labour we in opposition at the time it’s not a done deal that David would have won the election (I think would have been more likely) people were still smarting about Labour’s over spending

I think Labour how have a better chance to win the next election so that’s a positive but it’s not a definite

vera99 · 05/09/2022 13:10

Furlough was c70 billion the rumours of energy bailout are 100 billion - any chancellor will be printing to the max rather than shaking down the corporates so expect runaway inflation and a falling pound which as all major commodities are priced in dollars adds to the death spiral.

WonkotheWonderDog · 05/09/2022 13:13

At least the Tories know what a woman is ....

vera99 · 05/09/2022 13:16

Well, first job in her inbox is to suspend the sex pests and rapists in the party.

@Festoonlights - I sincerely hope you’re not talking to me in regards to joining a campaign to bring Johnson back. The choices for the country aren’t simply Johnson or Truss. I want a General Election because I don’t want any of the current Brexit Party people disguised as the Conservative party as the PM.

It doesn't really matter what you 'want' though does it.

This has to be the funniest thing I have ever read on MN. Just because LT was terrible doesn't mean BJ was good.

But I guess that depends on how low your bar is...

Thank fuck I'm scottish & we have the intelligent sensible, eloquent, caring nicola sturgeon & a way out of this shit show.

I think you are over egging Sturgeon here but at least we have a way out of this mess!

Thanks for posting although I'm still struggling to find any qualities. Do you, as a party member seriously think Liz is an election winner or do you think she'll have lost confidence of the party long before that?

Hi Op. I was trying to explain the point of view of many conservative voters. I can outline Liz Truss' qualities but please understand I preferred Boris Johnson, and most many members will tell you the same (if asked)

I do think she is wooden and not the eloquent of speakers unlike Boris, however she is all over the actual detail, she understands almost all elements of government having worked as a minister in so many different departments over the years.

Despite people's disparaging comments she is very very experienced, and I believe a safe pair of hands so to speak. She isn't going to make knee jerk decisions or to do things on a whim. Everything will be very well thought out, considered and carefully balanced.

In some ways she is the exact opposite of Boris almost in every way. I think she will grow into the job unlike May, and more than that I know that she is going to champion women's rights in a way that May and Thatcher never did. Not many people know she is the driving force behind the advances we have made on protecting women's rights in the last few years, and was forthright from the beginning that she knew who vaginas belong to.....incredibly this seems to matter in 2022. So I am ready to give her a chance, and some. She deserves the opportunity to stop the slow motion car crash the the country is currently facing, she deserves as a woman our support as she cuts her teeth in the hardest job in the world right now. I think she has the steel she is going to need, she has party support and lets see how she does. I would rather have her in charge than Sunak, although I thought he was wonderful at the beginning and would make a brilliant PM - his track record is in reality very poor, and I don't think he has the experience just yet to make it into the top job.

I hope for our country's sake that she can deliver, as she says she will, only time will tell. Boris is waiting in the wings if she fails, and despite their friendship I can't see Boris going anywhere for long.

I wish LT well.

83DanishMum · 05/09/2022 13:48

The Tory membership clearly aren't very bright. All the polls showed that Sunak would have been favourite to beat Starmer at a GE, but that Truss is way behind Starmer.

Oh well, they've shot themselves in the foot and I hope into oblivion after 2024.

Just feel so scared for the many innocent people who will suffer in the meantime.

UnnecessaryFennel · 05/09/2022 13:54

Oh, fuck me. This would be funny if it wasn't so scary.

This is the woman whose catchphrase is LITERALLY 'I don't have the details on that, I'll have to get back to you'.

Like her recent highly incendiary "throwaway" comment suggesting that the President of France is not an ally???

Except insult the French president, when France has been a British ally forever.

Exceot think that it’s right the high earners get more money back through tax break, whilst low earners get nothing

Puleeeze.

You should be really worried if you live in England. If you live in Scotland and want Scottish independence, it's a case of "eyes on the prize" because we have just moved another step nearer.

If you live in Scotland and don't buy into the utterly deluded idea of separatism Sunak would be a better bet.

Although goodness knows how any one who thinks with their head rather than the 2 equally balanced chips on each shoulder can support separatism escapes me.

You need history lessons just saying, but in any event Macron has form for offending world leaders, and is in fact very anti British atm, the French people however are great friends and will be friends long after he has croaked it on the world stage.
