AIBU?
To buy an Oodie?
TyrionsBitOnTheSide · 04/09/2022 20:51
DH says they’re basically a form of contraception. I want to avoid using the heating at much as possible your feet will be freezing in the winter so I’m thinking of getting an Oodie and keeping a couple of blankets near the sofa in a box for on an evening?
Are Oodies really that vile?
Am I being unreasonable?

I got my son a snuggz last Christmas which I keep stealing off him and tempted to get one for myself. It is a British make which I like. I think they are a little classier looking too. His is a lovely deep navy blue one with a Sherpa fleece lining. I am currently whinge up the fair isle one.

I hate snobbery, but all this talk of getting an Oodie is making me feel like a terrible snob!! Leggings under trousers and layers must be better surely? Aren't Oodies just made of polyester? Oh no I'm sounding worse now!
You can't hate snobbery that much 🤷♀️
Seriously...it's a fleece (granted, a very BIG fleece!)...if you ever get over your vapours at the mere thought of wearing one, you might discover the luscious, warming comfort it wraps you up in 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I got this cheap long one off Amazon last year, though in grey. It seems to be only available in pink now. The grey makes me look like Gandalf but I love it. I immediately turned my heating down 3 degrees for the rest of the winter:

I’ve also just bought a kuddly, the blue koalas one. It is thicker, bigger and the pocket is much bigger and sits lower (which I think will make it less convenient than my amazon one), and it’s much shorter, barely reaching to my knees while the Amazon one hits my ankles. I can’t see me preferring it to the Amazon one, to be honest, though we’ll see what happens when the cold weather gets here. I got it on an offer with a weighted blanket so it worked out not much more expensive than the Amazon one, but part of me thinks I should just have gone for another long cheap Amazon one as I do love all of me being covered!
Just seen this cheapo long one on Amazon, and I love the designs. Not sure it’s lined though, so it probably isn’t as good as either of the ones I already have (and I do NOT need a third!):

Anyone else worried that these massively oversized hoodie things might only be slightly oversized if you’re not a size 10?! 🤣🫤
I'm a size 18 and it's STILL massive oversized 🤣🤣🤣 My best friend is a 22...and it's STILL oversized 🥰👍🥰
On the flip side...my two girls are both a size 6...and it looks great on them too...so in the case of the wonder that is The Oodie...one-size really does fit all 💗

I bought a cheap version. It’s handy for mornings and evenings. Can’t spend so much money on a branded one and pretend I’m saving money lol
My oodie definitely saved me money. I hardly had the heating on last winter - and it would have cost way more than the £45 my oodie cost.
ThinWomansBrain · 05/09/2022 07:22
I was obsessed with having an oodie - but demurred at the price. I think they were about £80 when I first looked, cheaper now.
I happened to be in Primark when they were unpacking the first Snuddie consignment last year, and grabbed one, it's brilliant.
They sold out quickly (people buying to sell at a profit on ebay) , and then only had drippy colours, so start looking!

It may have been a couple of years ago then that I bought dd one. Didn't know they had a UK site now....ooh might treat myself if they're still on offer!
Re a previous poster about turning hearing off, we have ours set to come on if it goes below 15.....how cold can at actually get indoors with no heating? I worry about pipes hence the 15° rule.
WiddlinDiddlin · 05/09/2022 17:08
Fecking expensive though.
Top tip from me - buy a 8 to 10xl fleece from Big Dude (im sure other plus size shops for blokes exist), cost you 20 quid ish.. does the same job. Won't be a revolting shade of pink/dead unicorn. Will have bloody good pockets.
I've just got an 8xl (oodies are around a 6xl) gilet hoody from there, it fits over my massive jumpers and other warm stuff and is great for 'I want my body warmer but still wish to use my short little T-rex arms'.

Obviously we’re all different and I know loads of people LOVE these things, but the very thought of wearing one makes me feel smothered and irritable. I tried my sister’s Oodie on once (she loves it) and it was so massive and cumbersome that I just felt claustrophobic and fractious and vaguely panicky. I felt like I wanted to fight the bloody thing to the death!
Yes, horrible. Suffocating and weird. I get the same feeling when I try on puffa jackets etc. Like there's constantly something in your way. Hard to explain but wearing things like that feels almost like having a person constantly being too close to you, I think. Gives me proper fight-or-flight feelings. I know that makes no sense.
Still - OP, if your husband is complaining about an Oodie being unsexy he's really missing the point of what they're for! Complaining about an Oodie being unsexy is a bit like complaining about the lack of sexiness of, say, a duvet or a some loft insulation. So YANBU!

I got one (obviously not a real Oodie) in Dunnes Stores for €22

I have the Kuddly version. UK based so they arrive faster. I am fairly tall and they are just that little bit longer. I have 3. One at mine, one at his, one either in the wash or clean and ready to go. Last winter I rarely had my heating on as they are really toasty. I rather like them.
BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 05/09/2022 17:31
I bought a teddy bear fleece from Dunelm last week. 18 quid. Yes, it’s pretty huge (better for getting a few cosy layers underneath) it feels very, very soft but the best part is that IT’S FLEECY ON THE INSIDE AS WELL. Luxury!
I’ll be wearing it with the fleece leggings/PJ bottoms I bought a few years ago. That’s if I don’t do myself an injury with all the static
