To buy an Oodie?

DH says they’re basically a form of contraception. I want to avoid using the heating at much as possible your feet will be freezing in the winter so I’m thinking of getting an Oodie and keeping a couple of blankets near the sofa in a box for on an evening?

Are Oodies really that vile?

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

hahahha I have a bright pink one and I love it! I do resemble a giant walking marshmallow. it's great 😀

It feels like wearing a fat suit, it's that big and puffy. But it keeps you warm. I wouldn't say it's any more hideous than a dressing gown, snuggy, onsie or any other garment designed to keep you warm in the privacy of your own home.

I bet you the cost of an oodie that if you did get one, your DH would always be trying to pinch it.

I'll just wear an extra layer.. these oodies seem very bulky and if you're cooking /cleaning in them , they'll need washing and drying all the time.

XenoBitch · 04/09/2022 21:03

I have a Kuddly, which is pretty much the same but cheaper.

Pebblebeach15 · 04/09/2022 21:05

Just bought Dh one because he works from home and feels the cold . He says it is super warm and soft . In winter he will use it with a heated throw over his knees .

My sister has a grey fleece one. If she wore a red scarf and a hat she'd look like Orinoco the Womble.

MomwasCasual · 04/09/2022 21:09

Me and DH weebled round in ours last winter, and still managed to get jiggy occasionally

Just don't get an oversized blanket Oodie or you will look like Me.

A Medieval Monk is what I look like , Very warm though.

I love mine. I'm 48 and have the unicorns one, as it was the cheapest on Vinted Grin And at least with the more 'niche' designs, you know it's a genuine Oodie.
I've had other, cheaper substitutions and there's no comparison.
Go for it!

I've got a knock off oodie AND fleece lined crocs covered in charms. I'm very glad to say that I still have a excellent sex life 😂. But I do remove them before getting jiggy.

How is it different from wearing a dressing gown over your clothes? I considered getting one but think it's bulkier than my dressing gown which I wear around the house in winter anyway.

I am also a dressing gown queen, and continue to be while my Oodie is in the wash and I pine while it dries, but dressing gowns tend to gape open and aren't as thick or warm.

Looks good but my concern is 1) where to store it as it looks like it would take up so much room in wardrobe/drawer 2) it would take up the whole space in a wash.

Hesma · 04/09/2022 21:21

I have a kuddly and love it! So cosy but I’m single so who cares 🤣

I hang mine up on my bedroom door hook.
Definitely doesn't take up the whole machine, and I manage to fit in some extra stuff too.

BrioNotBiro · 04/09/2022 21:27

What do you wear leg-wise with them? I'm imagining a toastie body and a comparatively cold lower half.

EverydayIsPJday · 04/09/2022 21:27

I bought the sloth one for last winter. Fantastic. And for what it's worth I'm 37 weeks pregnant (so concieved over Christmas) so you can tell your husband there's definitely a way in there somehow 🤣🤣 unless my DH has some wierd sloth fetish

DimplesToadfoot · 04/09/2022 21:29

For anyone on a budget

My sons ex size 8-10 snaffled my xxl fluffy pyjama top, its too hot for me since menopaused, I sewed some extra elastic to the neckband and cuffs and now she has a super cheap oodie, pj tops even xxl are cheaper than oodies and elastic costs pennies.

As for me I'm crocheting myself some ponchos, Maybe I should be on Gransnet lol

I’m short so it comes to my knees anyway. Last year, I wore it over a t-shirt and velour tracksuit plus fleecy socks. This year, I’m going to try adding thermal leggings as well as the tracksuit bottoms and turn the heating down even further.

Rascalsandradishes · 04/09/2022 21:33

Has anyone got the primark version? I'm not sure if it's going to do the job of keeping me toasty this winter.

greenhousegal · 04/09/2022 21:36

The furry hood is the best bit. I'm proud to wear mine when answering the door or when folk drop in (without telling me weeks in advance). It's just a warm garment that is very snug and comfortable.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 04/09/2022 21:37

I hate snobbery, but all this talk of getting an Oodie is making me feel like a terrible snob!! Leggings under trousers and layers must be better surely? Aren't Oodies just made of polyester? Oh no I'm sounding worse now!

BirdWatch · 04/09/2022 21:39

Get fleece joggers and booties too.
