To buy an Oodie?

DH says they’re basically a form of contraception. I want to avoid using the heating at much as possible your feet will be freezing in the winter so I’m thinking of getting an Oodie and keeping a couple of blankets near the sofa in a box for on an evening?

Are Oodies really that vile?

Am I being unreasonable?

I’ve got a primark one, I felt very warm in it last winter 🥵

I love mine. I got identical ones for DS (8) and me and he still wore his through the summer!! Got the Harry Potter gryffindor ones 😍

I have a pink one with corgis, it’s not like you wear them out to a nice meal. Comfy home clothes don’t need to be fashionable. I live in mine when winter comes!

I hate snobbery, but all this talk of getting an Oodie is making me feel like a terrible snob!! Leggings under trousers and layers must be better surely? Aren't Oodies just made of polyester? Oh no I'm sounding worse now!

I do this and then put the oodie over the top. Maybe you wouldn’t catch Camilla or Kate in one (although as far as I can tell, most really posh people couldn’t care less what other people think of them) but since I’m not a multimillionaire who doesn’t have to worry about money, I’ll be warm now and worry about being downmarket later.

Has anyone got the primark version? I'm not sure if it's going to do the job of keeping me toasty this winter.

Yep, mine's a Primark and is so soft and warm. I can't compare to the real thing as I don't have one, but it took me through last Winter fine. underneath I wore a long sleeved thermal vest and fleece pj top and bottoms and fleece socks in (yes you guessed) fleece slipper socks. I'm getting a meno flush thinking about it now.

Kate and camilla can afford to keep their heating on though 😂

I've got a tesco one, not sure if it's as thick as the oodie/kuddly but its warm enough with a tshirt under and joggers and boot style slippers. I am a bit of an electrical storm after a day wearing, but I'm warm. And if it gets cold this year I will want to be warm.

I don't care what it looks like it is so bloody comfy.

How big is the neck does it touch your throat or is there a gap? Are they tight anywhere will I have to fight my way out of it or do they come off easy?

YANBU I actually looked at one today but they are quite expensive so I’m going to shop around.

I also have a sleeping bag for when it gets really cold as that really keeps the heat in at night.

I got one in the sale and used it loads last winter, DH bought himself one after keeping trying to borrow mine! I wouldn't pay full price for one in honesty but half price was a decent buy.

I bought the biggest child sized one because I wanted it to be wearable while I was doing things, not just while I was sitting on the sofa. It’s fabulous.

I have one but I don't really get on with it because the cuffs are so long and so tight. I much prefer my ankle length knockoffs - I have two so I can wash and alternate. This thread reminds me that I need to get some better slippers.

We've all got one here 🙂 we love them! And they will def keep us warm through the winter of unaffordable heating

i bought me and the 3 kids genuine oodies last year and even in the throws of the coldest days we were absolutley boiling in them and so snug and cosy they are so spacious and not constricting but long and very warm we love them

Can I ask which ones have legs as I haven't seen any? The only ones I've seen are knee length and open like a dress. That's what puts me off bothering tbh as I know my legs will still be cold.

I have this teddy bear fleece set from boohoo £20 it's mega toasty and cosy not cold enough to wear yet but think it's going to be a godsend.

It’s too big and puffy for my preference, but the kids and DP love theirs. I just stick to a hoody and my duvet or a blanket. I suffer terribly with cold feet and hands. Heat holder socks are great though 😊

Wow! £60 for a dressing gown? Am I missing something. Is it just so you can say “I have an oodie”? 🤔😂🤭suckers!

I have the cheap Amazon knock off one - Sienna? It’s brilliant if you work at home or for the evenings as you just tuck your legs up into it. It’s incredibly warm. My DDs both have them too. I couldn’t face spending £50 on a massive unsexy hoodie with bamboo eating pandas splattered over it but £15 seemed reasonable for staying cosy!

Report

EntertainingandFactual · 04/09/2022 22:18

Anyone else worried that these massively oversized hoodie things might only be slightly oversized if you’re not a size 10?! 🤣🫤

mummabubs · 04/09/2022 22:18

I lusted after an Oodie but just didn't feel able to justify the price tag, so bought a cheaper equivalent off amazon for £30. I love it and can totally see in the winter how it would mean I wouldn't need heating on at all. It's ridiculously comfy!

I have a onesie from Onepiece. I look like the world's frumpiest telly tubbie. But damn it's warm from head to toe.
