to ask what you pay for childcare?

I'm just curious to see if childcare rates vary around the country/UK?

I pay £40 a day for my 2 year old go to a childminder for 8 hours 3 (sometimes 4) days a week, this was £35 a day until very recently. I did, however, pay pushing on £50 a day for my day when my daughter was at nursery 6-7 years ago.

Roll on 15 free hours next year! Although I do think my childminder is very good value 😊

South East London, just about to go up to £68/day.

berksandbeyond · 04/09/2022 21:39

£80 a day. Private nursery. Berkshire

Upsadiddles · 04/09/2022 21:44

North east. DD2’s nursery £55 per day for under 2s, which we need 4 days per week. This includes 3 meals plus snacks but we provide our own nappies. The price drops slightly when she hits 2 (though for DD1 price increases at that time pretty much cancelled the drop out so I’m expecting the same this time).

DD1 we pay around £5 per day for breakfast/after school clubs 4 days per week, then holiday club is £40 per day. We use annual
leave and family for the majority of school holidays but will likely need to use the holiday club for around 3 weeks in total which we budget for throughout the year.

We use tax free childcare and after taking that into account we pay a little under £900 per month (including saving for holiday club for DD1).

We pay £92, SW London (just increased by £2 per day) for nursery, we get 30 hours free but it doesn't work out as much off as I thought it would Confused

givingupchocolatemonday · 04/09/2022 21:49

£53 a day in the northwest - full time
My bill has gone from just over £1000 a month to £500 after free hours applied - I've waited 3 long years for this!!

sjxoxo · 04/09/2022 21:56

To add a further afield comparison- baby due to start 2.5 days a week & we will be paying €300/month. I’m in france xo

sjxoxo · 04/09/2022 21:58

..find it mad how different some of these prices are here from across the UK x

JackandSam · 04/09/2022 22:06

So as I said up thread, our nursery is £50 per day. But if you go 4 miles away, in to the next borough (which is more affluent) then nurseries are £56-£72 per day. It's ridiculous! I only know this because I live in the expensive borough, so looked at nurseries there first.

NCQuiteConfused · 04/09/2022 22:08

£66 per day - Yorkshire (nursery)

£45 a day for full time nursery 5 days a week. Includes food but not nappies.
Z3 London.

You're about to get a mad rush of PM's asking for details of the nursery!

roarfeckingroarr · 05/09/2022 08:29

@Tee20x in same boat. Solidarity. It's ruining me financially!

😂 I know, it’s top secret until u done having DC don’t need another place.

It’s actually a great nursery, they range up to about £85 near me and the average was £75. I looked at a few and preferred my nursery before I knew the price. It’s going up by £3 a day in the new year, we are very lucky!

Irishgene · 05/09/2022 18:53

So interesting....such a variance!

£70 a day for nursery, then another £600 for wraparound care for our older two - south east.

89redballoons · 05/09/2022 18:59

Bristol - £75 a day (8-6) before tax free childcare and free hours.

Fleur405 · 05/09/2022 19:11

£70 a day for nursery in Aberdeen 😥

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 05/09/2022 19:28

£48 a day for a childminder. 8 hours. Includes food, but not outings, wipes or nappies.

Decent nurseries in this area are anywhere between £70-90 a day.

East of England. 60-90 minute commute to London.

Thehop · 05/09/2022 19:30

I’m a Yorkshire childminder

I charge £40 for a 7:30-6 day that includes food, drink, clubs, nappies, wipes and suncream

forinborin · 05/09/2022 19:36

London, £52/day for two primary aged children (two breakfast clubs, two afterschool clubs).

daisydoods · 05/09/2022 19:40

North East, £46 a day for youngest 2 days a week.

30 free hours for eldest has just kicked in so 5 mornings at school nursery, 3 afternoons at private nursery, then £5 per session for private nursery for lunch and dinner, so £60 a month

GuerlainHo · 05/09/2022 19:44

When my son was younger;

  • (pre nursery) I used to pay £78 per day. +when he got to around 3/4 = £45 per day +Once in school and only going to childminder for after school = £25 per day +School breakfast and after school club = £16 per day

Single mother in London

Isababybel · 05/09/2022 19:52

East Midlands, £55 for a full day - nappies not provided. Dd goes 5 full days a week so the weekly cost is reduced slightly to £250.
Is anyone else concerned about fees potentially rising even higher, in line with the increase in energy bills?

Isababybel · 05/09/2022 19:53

Thats a private nursery i should have said

CornishGem1975 · 05/09/2022 19:53

Nursery, Midlands. £67 per day from 7.30am-6.30pm. Food provided, but not nappies and wipes.

Passmeaplacard · 05/09/2022 19:55

£47 a day for nursery, in Yorkshire
