Mine don’t go back till Tuesday and I cannot wait!!

AFS1 · 04/09/2022 09:48

Me. I’ve been very very lucky that I’ve had a lot of this summer off work. The kids are at an age where they’ve got on well and the holidays have been fantastic. I’ve genuinely loved being off with them. This week signals them going back to school and me having to go back to work. I feel more miserable about it than I remember in any other year.

weevil5 · 04/09/2022 09:49

Send me some of the things you're looking forward to!

I don't mind about school, and I love autumn but it's going to be a tough winter this year for so many people.
it feels like the country is in a protracted slow-motion crash and all we can do is brace for it and hope we get through as quickly as possible.

Soubriquet · 04/09/2022 09:50

My children are bored. They haven’t had much to do this holiday because I’ve been bed bound for most of it due to pain and ill health.

I get some peace with out the constant muuuuuuuuuum he hit me. Muuuuuuuum she won’t let me do xx

I don’t have to worry about getting up to sort dinner.

Fififelix · 04/09/2022 09:52

Me !!! We have had such a good summer Greece for 2 weeks DD went to PGL for a week. No school runs it's been bliss.

DrGlenda · 04/09/2022 09:52

I love autumn so I’m looking forward to it, my eldest is also going a little stir crazy after a very full 5 weeks and a boring last week and a bit.
Roll on tomorrow for her!
Though I am dreading doing the school run again, no doubt we’ll go back to our usual her whinging about putting on her own socks and struggling to get the youngest in the pram without a fuss.

glamourousindierockandroll · 04/09/2022 09:53

I'm a teacher and very ready to be back this week

VanishingViolet · 04/09/2022 09:53

I’m feeling sad too, OP!

I do love the autumn months but this year, with so much gloom, doom and worry, there doesn’t seem a lot to look forward to.

Oysterbabe · 04/09/2022 09:54

I'm a bit torn on it. It's been a nice summer and we've had a lot of fun. I am desperate for some time alone. My youngest starts school next week, I'm sticking with working 4 days and will have one day a week alone, with no work and no kids. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this, I've literally been daydreaming about it for 2 years. I love my children and think I do a good job, but I am an introvert and I feel quite stressed and overwhelmed a lot of the time.

weevil5 · 04/09/2022 09:55

What's everyone doing today to deal with the gloom- chilling or distractions?

OP posts:
Beamur · 04/09/2022 09:56

I like my DD being home and we all enjoy not having to get up as early in the morning!
So, I don't relish back to school.
I don't have any major to 'look forward to' but am busy with friends and work and other interests which is plenty for me.

Pinkflipflop85 · 04/09/2022 09:56

Already been back for a week (except Monday obviously) so today is just the usual Sunday routine of prepping like mad for the week ahead!

Thefailinghousewife · 04/09/2022 10:00

We have had a fab summer - my husband was off work the whole time, we spent most of it abroad or doing lovely trips back home. But, I am SO ready for school to go back! Im missing routine and can’t wait for the darker nights and snuggling down in the evenings in front of the fire.

Sunnyqueen · 04/09/2022 10:02

I feel exactly I love the summer, the heat, bbqs most nights, kids playing in the pool and sunbathing with music on. The holidays are the best, completely free of all of the school bullshit for 6 whole weeks!! No horrible, anxiety inducing school runs 2x a day, no ironing uniforms every day, pack lunches, the million emails and snarky phone calls from jumped up jobsworth teachers.
I cried yesterday about them going back and no doubt will again today and every day next week and if it's anything like the last few years every day until about June where the weather lifts and the end is insight again.

SafeHeaven · 04/09/2022 10:03

I hate school times. I hate the school run, struggling for a parking space, clock watching until I pick them up.

then it’s pissing down with rain and you have to go and get them.

I love it when they’re off, do your own thing, in your own time etc

GoneWithTheWine1 · 04/09/2022 10:06

I can't wait for mine to be back this week. Loved having them home but 6 weeks is a long time when you don't have infinite money to keep them entertained.

Testina · 04/09/2022 10:06

I feel with all these threads on MN that some people just look for some doom to wallow in!

Sure, I’ve had a lovely summer. But why wouldn’t there be plenty to look forward to?
First day of school excitement.
New teacher, new timetable.
Sports clubs restarting.
A hockey tournament in October.
Hallowe’en!
A weekend where I’m babysitting my child’s bestie for the whole weekend and they’re excited.
A film coming out that we want to see.

There’s always something good coming up…

And we get summer again next year anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

weevil5 · 04/09/2022 10:10

You're right that's the energy you need to channel but I can't get excited about any of the equivalent things in my life! I need a bit of a kick maybe.

I’m feeling full on dread.

TheChosenTwo · 04/09/2022 10:13

Yanbu.
However I personally am looking forward to it - purely because it’s hard work trying to organise cover for the holidays and not use up too much leave!
i always hated the school runs and packed lunches and endless school emails, uniform hassle, homework and projects, most of it just seems like more work for parents.
Ds is the only one at school now and is going into year 6, he is looking forward to walking himself to and from school on my days in the office, and I’m looking forward to it too.
As much as I love the lack of pressure in the holidays I do feel the endless days get a bit monotonous after 6 weeks.

wonderstuff · 04/09/2022 10:13

im with you, so sad summer is over. I’m booking a holiday for February and I’ll start thinking about Christmas soon too, sloes must be ready soon for sloe gin. At least this year we can do things again. I’ve got tickets for football next Sunday which will be fun.

nancyglancey · 04/09/2022 10:14

I prefer the routine of term time. DS has spent way too much time gaming and watching YouTube while we try to work. DD can entertain herself but he's hopeless at it. I have a chronic condition, the holidays have put me into flare because I haven't managed to do the things that keep it in check, so I'm keen to have more time to focus on myself.

However, like others, I feel an impending sense of doom about the coming winter.
