not here, joys of home educating

started in 2015 and best lifestyle ever.

especially in the lockdowns, we had zero stress

its quite sad when parents wish their children away from them for hours a day.and then admit they cant wait for it.

Parents need a break and children need to meet friends and gain independence. Personally I would be concerned if a parent can't let go. 🤷‍♀️

My 5 year old is constantly hungry at the minute. 😂 We all need our routine back and my child wants to see her friends again. Also the baby will be able to play without being bothered by his sister.

@Testina that's all well and good if your child enjoys school. For my dd the anxiety about a new teacher/timetable is overwhelming.

I was just giving an off the cuff list of things relevant for me though - obviously I’m not expecting everything child to have the hockey tournament that I mentioned.
I’m sorry your child is anxious, and I hope she settles quickly. But from all the “sad summer is over / hate winter / nothing to look forward to” threads I see each year on MN, that isn’t the recurring theme.
I think people are too quick to jump on the doom wagon, and instead should create things to look forward to - which to be fair to OP was her intention here I think!

I'm a teacher feeling a bit sad.... but I have a cruise to look forward to at half term!

Personally I find it sad that parents don't want to give their child wings and let them fly, instead keeping them isolated and not gaining independence.

But we're all different I suppose.

lollipoprainbow · 04/09/2022 17:09

@DONTMESSWITHMEDARNA not everyone has the luxury of being able to home school.

AmongstTheCosmos · 04/09/2022 17:12

I feel the same OP. I really miss DD during term time. She's at school 8-5 most days and I barely see her. I really cherish the time we have together in her school holidays.

SpaceyCake · 04/09/2022 17:16

I'm sad. ☹️ I love DC and I've been lucky in that I have been able to spend my days playing and going out swimming and on day trips with him. He's brilliant company and I'm going to miss him when he's at school. He's excited to see his friends and meet his new teacher, and I'm glad he liked school so far, but yeah I'm not going to lie, I am a bit blue.

Well, October half term isn't far away. 😁

InChocolateWeTrust · 04/09/2022 17:20

DS has gone slightly mad and is SO ready to go back to school! We can't wait

InChocolateWeTrust · 04/09/2022 17:32

Ps it's not so much me who has missed school. I enjoy my kids company, but DS loves school and is happy to be going back

weevil5 · 04/09/2022 17:38

I can't even get excited about October half term (and February for that matter!)- hard to think of stuff to do in rainy weather.

Yes because I work in one😂

DONTMESSWITHMEDARNA you sound smug. I’ve done both school and home Ed, pros and cons to either, I’d home Ed again in a heartbeat except my children don’t want to. Even though they struggle with attending school.

If I home schooled we would be doing it from a hole in the ground. No income!

I think I'm the opposite to most here. I feel a good deal of responsibility to be the best mum ever during the holidays but without the money or the energy to follow through. Oh and also I work full time so out of the 9 weeks my kids were off, I was off two.

Back to school is a blessing for most families where parents work full time. It takes the pressure off and there's plenty of time for fun at the weekends.

This is exactly how I feel. All these people who love the summer holidays must either work in schools or not at all. The whole time is just a trickier than usual version of the normal juggle, with added bonus guilt thrown in Confused

purpleme12 · 04/09/2022 20:37

It's a lot more relaxed in the holidays.
I think she prefers that.
I don't think she thinks there's enough time to play babies and things in school term. After school I mean.
So I will miss that actually
