I feel exactly I love the summer, the heat, bbqs most nights, kids playing in the pool and sunbathing with music on. The holidays are the best, completely free of all of the school bullshit for 6 whole weeks!! No horrible, anxiety inducing school runs 2x a day, no ironing uniforms every day, pack lunches, the million emails and snarky phone calls from jumped up jobsworth teachers.
I cried yesterday about them going back and no doubt will again today and every day next week and if it's anything like the last few years every day until about June where the weather lifts and the end is insight again.

This is exactly how I feel!

I’m with you. They’re driving me nuts this week but I’m going to really miss them too. Littlest starts his school this week and I’m sad there won’t be any more days just the two of us. But there are Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas to look forward to, and lovely mild autumn days with crispy leaves to walk through and a bit of routine and peace!

lollipoprainbow · 04/09/2022 10:21

Yes really sad, it seems like five minutes ago I was at the gates ready to collect my dd for the start of the holidays and now it's all over gone in a heartbeat. I'll miss the lazy days and no school runs. My dd hates school too, she's autistic so it's doubly hard.

lollipoprainbow · 04/09/2022 10:26

@Testina that's all well and good if your child enjoys school. For my dd the anxiety about a new teacher/timetable is overwhelming.

DelurkingAJ · 04/09/2022 10:30

We’re looking forward to going back. DS1 has ASD and thrives on the school routine. He and DS2 have spent the holiday outside (good) simultaneously playing cricket (ok, so long as the tennis balls used stay in the garden) and bickering (bad) and both need daily doses of their own friends (most of whom have been away whilst we were about or in holiday clubs).

NoYouSirName · 04/09/2022 10:34

No, I’m not a teacher. But have autistic children who are massively impacted by school and not in a good way. Yet they don’t want home Ed. It’s been so much easier over the Summer. I also struggle with the endless rushing round and chaos that term time brings.

NoYouSirName · 04/09/2022 10:35

Mine too lollipoprainbow
nightmares and crying for over a week now.

neverbeenskiing · 04/09/2022 10:36

Nope. We've had a lovely summer but I think the kids and I are both ready to get back into a routine now. Autumn is my favourite season so I don't tend to feel sad that summer is over.

I work in a school part-time and I love my job so am really looking forward to seeing all my lovely colleagues and watching our new cohort of students settle in which is always a pleasure. I always look forward to seeing the kids I work closely with after a long break, particularly the vulnerable ones with difficult home lives who I worry about over the holidays.

I'm lucky to work TTO and have enjoyed the time with the DC but DS(3) is very full-on so being with him 24/7 for 6 weeks is tiring. I am looking forward to having a few hours to myself on my non working days when he's back at pre-school and he really benefits from the structure and routine.

I'm looking forward to Autumn walks and cosy nights snuggled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate watching films together, we also have Halloween, both kids birthdays and Christmas to look forward to.

alsonotmyname · 04/09/2022 10:41

Dreading the busy mornings and endless running around for work and clubs. I work tto so back to work for me - I love my job but I'd rather be at home with the kids.
We've had a fabulous summer pottering around at home with some weekends away thrown in the mix. I'm dreading the rainy days trudging to school

ZenNudist · 04/09/2022 10:51

Well ds started back Friday and ds2 is in on Monday. I don't work that day so looking forward to getting my non work day back without the kids.

Looking forward to getting back to a routine, October half term we go away for a few weeks. Lots to do and very busy up to Christmas but I don't need endless treats to keep me going. It's nice to get back to normal. I have done a lot this summer and it's tired me out. I wouldn't appreciate holidays if I were always on holiday!

ZenNudist · 04/09/2022 10:52

That's should say we go away for a few days!

Festoonlights · 04/09/2022 10:54

I am never glum about the change of season, I love the newness and freshness of brand new seasons. I feel we have got the best out of this summer, with such great weather and have no complaints. Everyone is more than ready to go back to school.

But

I have a sinking feeling, one I haven't felt before. It is radiating from my gut, and is a warning signal. I have had the same nightmares on repeat as well. I know this winter is going to be hard for everyone, harder than usual, but I can't shift a deeper feeling I have. So it is clouding my other feelings. Before anyone says it is anxiety. It absolutely isn't, I don't have GAD or anything. I just have a very bad feeling about this winter, and I am clinging on to the summer, and the children in an effort to avoid moving into the next chapter....not good. So I understand entirely what you are saying op.

Harridan1981 · 04/09/2022 10:55

50/50 here. I have been juggling work with looking after 3 kids, so it will be nice to get the house and office back to myself and get some semblance of order.

As ever, we haven’t done half of the things I had in mind to do, but we have been to the beach about 100 times and they’ve had a ball, as have I.

balalake · 04/09/2022 10:55

I don't feel the same as the OP, but don't have school age children. For me, September is still summer, and the time I dislike the most is when the clocks go back in late October. Putting clocks back to me is something that should be consigned to history.

Starlightstarbright1 · 04/09/2022 10:55

Nope. I used to feel that when my Ds was small now witn a teen looking forward to a huge body slobbing around in my house.

I am also looking forward to reduced washing.. items worn for 30 mins don't end in my wash bag

Oysterbabe · 04/09/2022 10:56

Also we have spent a flipping fortune over the summer; zoos, soft play, Legoland, cinema, bowling, weekends at the seaside, holiday club. My bank account is very ready for school to start.

Harridan1981 · 04/09/2022 10:58

I love Autumn/Winter, and we tend to book a holiday for Easter to split that long run through to summer. We don’t tend to go away in the summer hols as it is just too lovely where we live.

MintJulia · 04/09/2022 10:58

Mine goes back on Tuesday and it's about time.

He's had a long rest, spent most of the summer at the swimming pool, has grown about four inches and is reading three paperbacks a week.

Definitely time he had more to occupy his mind 😀

Mine does that. I fold them up and put them back in the draw. No-one can tell the difference 😊

Goldieshock · 04/09/2022 11:01

Nope. 2 anxious kids who need constant input and support. It's 24/7. Time for them to get attention from other adults!!

Quornflakegirl · 04/09/2022 11:02

I have had the best summer with my dc, it’s been the best yet I think. I feel sad they’re back at school on Wednesday but it’s their birthday this month so we have that to be excited about. The older they get the more sad I feel when summer is over.

HailAdrian · 04/09/2022 11:06

You know what, at the beginning of the holidays, I imagined I'd feel the same. I have an autistic little boy and I was dreading 6 weeks of no school and it has been SO hard at times but we've had loads of fun too and now it's back to routine, it's gonna get cold and dark and I feel the same as you basically!

HailAdrian · 04/09/2022 11:09

Sounds an awesome way to spend the holidays, I'm trying and failing to make my 11yo interested in books.

Festoonlights · 04/09/2022 11:09

I love the moment when it is time to plan for Christmas though, and my Christmas prep always starts in September after dh's birthday, so that is a happy thought!
