Fallonangel · 03/09/2022 16:13

The Ukrainian First Lady has made a statement addressing the UK telling us while we are counting our pennies they are also counting their casualties.
Aibu to feel selfish moaning about my lifestyle reductions?

LoveLarry I done see it as a genicide rather than the consequence of a proxy war fought in a country between the west and Russia with civilians in the cross fire. I also believe the present situation could have been avoided completely with better diplomacy.

@MissPankhurst: Well, it's complicated isn't it. Ukraine had agreed not to apply to the UN if Russia let them be. That all seemed to working than he decided he would like to join the UN and the war began.

How? Ukraine is a member of the UN. The UN recognised Ukraine as a member since 1945, as one of the legacy states of the USSR.

Can you link anything at all that says it's suddenly become controversial and resulted in the Russian invasion on February 2022?

She can't. Because the whole post is a work of fiction

forinborin · 03/09/2022 19:05

She's not the sharpest tool in the box, and likely very stressed. It doesn't align with the general attitude amongst Ukrainians towards the UK at all.

LoobyDop · 03/09/2022 19:06

Does nobody actually realise that the Ukraine is only Putin's first push, and if he gets away with this, he'll be coming for more and more territory? The man is dangerously insane, and his arrogance knows no limits. But by all means let's whine about our bills, and stay focused on our tiny island. Appeasement worked out so well fir us the last time we tried it.

I don’t think enough people do realise this, and I don’t understand why our government aren’t emphasising the point more. We aren’t supporting Ukraine and sanctioning Russia out of some sense of kindness, or wanting to do the right thing. We’re doing it because if Putin succeeds in Ukraine, he’ll keep going. He isn’t going to decide enough is enough. Where do his borders need to stop? Poland? Croatia? Romania? All former Communist states.
The cost of living crisis is fucking awful for many, many people. But the situation wasn’t created by us (although it should have been foreseen and avoided years ago). We can’t negotiate with Putin and we can’t bomb him into submission. This is the only way.

The deliberate targeting of civilians and their rape and torture? The forcing of civilians through camps and into the invaders country including thousands of children to be adopted by Russian families? The forcing of teaching only in Russian and denying Ukranian history in schools in occupied areas?

Genocidal actions right there. And fuck all to do with a "proxy war".

MissPankhurst · 03/09/2022 19:06

I wouldn't bet my next month's diminishing wage on it would you?
The long clip was the natural point at which to say it, instead she used it to say how much worse it was for her country-it's not for her personally of course-and how for us it will only cost extra pennies.
It will cost me a lot more than pennies-it could cost me my home and no, I don't think it's worth it, especially after seeing her arrogant face and sneering tone.

Well then there's no arguing with you.

It's genocide. Pure and simple.

I bet you're an anti vaxxer too

vera99 · 03/09/2022 19:08

In this internet-connected world, crowdsourcing could be a democratic way for the world to decide whether to support Ukraine and those wanting blood sweat and tears could dig deep and make good on their words.

gnilliwdog · 03/09/2022 19:08

I actually have no words to describe how revolting I find the attitude that she should be thanking the rest of the world in every other sentence for the limited support that's been provided so far.

When you say 'limited' are you saying the UK has not done enough?

thefoggiest · 03/09/2022 19:08

I dont actually understand why the west has embroiled itself in this war to be honest. There are situations like Russia vs Ukraine going on all over the world. Why this one?

I'll be more polite this time

Your posts have comprised made up claims that dont make sense.

Why would zelensky suddenly decide to join the UN and that caused Putin to invade.

Then something about a gold throne.

I'm not the one talking shit

There definitely is a high crossover between the anti-vaxxers and the proxy war people. It'll be denigrating "MSM" and the "sheeple" next.

No, dear, not a gold throne. A gold chair. She is sitting on it in a place.

Vodka, possibly.

TeaAddict235 · 03/09/2022 19:17

In a matter of fact way is the cultural way of speaking in Ukraine ( and other Eastern European countries). It is not so apologetic or empathetic when addressing the listener.

For example we would say "unfortunately....", or "sadly....." or something to that manner, but not all languages or cultures prepare the listener for frank or direct speech or criticism. I know of quite a few mainlanders who get irritated by the soft approach used in the English language to deliver a blow.

Scianel · 03/09/2022 19:24

@vera99 that's actually genius. And about the fairest way to do it.

CheapBeersFilledwithCrocodileTears · 03/09/2022 19:27

@LoveLarry Sigh. The two loudest voices about this (cannot believe when you pointed out the UN mistake, the come back was ‘don’t talk shit’ - too pathetic) are both named after feminist icons, VirginiaWool and MissPankhurst, and both accounts seem to have only been invented in the past week. I don’t care if they’re related, I don’t care if they’re sock puppets, I don’t care if they were just created in prep for this BBC interview and the inevitable discussion, or for all discussions about the energy crisis to push an agenda. But for VirginiaWool to call Russia violating a sovereign nation’s borders and then killing their military “an active border dispute,” is disgusting. No, that’s when borders aren’t agreed. Ukraine was already a country. It happened. You can’t erase them. You and Russia don’t get to pretend they don’t exist. And that poster better pray that if another country ever decides to violate our borders and start killing our military and innocent citizens, that someone cares more than the world cared about Crimea and that people don’t just dismiss it as an “active border dispute” and act as ridiculously as said poster - chastising Ukraine for that military violation making them prioritize the NATO membership plan they’d ALREADY HAD since fucking 2008.

What ARE these people thinking?! You don’t want the UK to get involved in Ukraine, fine. We’re all allowed opinions; that’s what’s lovely about not being Russia. But at least do Ukraine the courtesy of admitting they’ve been invaded. They were invaded by Russia in 2014, and they’ve been occupied since 2014, and now the push is on for the invasion to complete its mission: Ukraine becoming part of Russia.
