Cauliflower cheese with a pinch of nutmeg & black pepper. Sometimes with a slice of ham & some greenery.

jmh740 · 03/09/2022 16:15

Comfort foods/ cheap meals
Egg chips and beans
Leek and pot soup with crusty bread
Pasta and a jar of sauce with grated cheese
Ds loves pasta bacon and grated cheese
Some thing I call stewp (between soup and stew)
Bag of broth mix from the market boiled up with lentils veg stock and then dumplings or crusty bread, I know its autumn when the market starts selling broth mix

Also keen to know the lentil soup recipe

I also make a quick and easy pasta. Chicken breast/ bacon/ any veggies like peppers / onion/ add premade tomato sauce, then add grated cheese and chili powder/ paprika - very comforting and goes a long way. Can make it in ten mins.

SillySausage21356 · 03/09/2022 16:18

Boil some spaghetti.
Stir in big spoon of marmite

Eat.

Has got us out of a hole in the past, and is actually tasty (obviously if you like Marmite)

kimchifox · 03/09/2022 16:21

Pesto pasta
Egg fried rice - boil rice, fry off any bits of veg / frozen peas you have in the house / add cooked rice to pan/ add a beaten egg and soy sauce. Voilà. Not exactly authentic but it's cheap, quick and filling.

Something my nana made up donkeys years ago she called Catalana:

Chop & fry an onion until soft

Add a tin of chopped tomatoes & heat through

Add about 1/2 a tin of corned beef, torn into small pieces, stir until well mixed in

Add a crumbled beef oxo cube

Serve with chips and bread & butter

DS(16) loves it too.

Pasta, cheese sauce, bacon and hard boiled eggs. In the oven right now! £5 for four of us (kids are small though!)

Nottidaythanks · 03/09/2022 16:35

Spaghetti smothered in a sauce made from cream cheese , garlic , onions, chillis and chorizo.

ChubbyCapybara · 03/09/2022 16:37

Chickpea and pasta soup, flavoured with rosemary, parmesan, garlic and olive oil. 15 minutes.

Beans stew, made with either borlotti beans or cannellini beans, tomato passata, sage, onion and bacon/lardons/pancetta cubes, with lots of black pepper and olive oil to finish it, served with toasted crusty bread. 10 minutes.

Large pizza eaten straight from the box on the sofa in front of a good TV show.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 03/09/2022 16:39

Liver, bacon and onion casserole with mashed potatoes and peas.

My Mums lentil soup. It was her Mums lentil soup and her mum's before that. My kids call it Mum's get well soup as if they are sad or ill it's like having a hug in a bowl.

Titsywoo · 03/09/2022 17:01

Lazy - instant noodles (sainsburys own brand chicken is best) cooked till water has gone then add grated cheese and stir till melted. Usually stir in a heaped teaspoon of pesto too.

Not lazy - a bowl of crispy roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese with gravy

InFiveMins · 03/09/2022 17:31

Huntswomanonthemove · 03/09/2022 17:36

Jacket potatoes with cheese and beans. All from Lidl, very cheap and delicious.

pagopago · 03/09/2022 17:37

Crusty white bread toast and butter, perhaps with strawberry jam.

RedToothBrush · 03/09/2022 17:41

Egg fried rice. Throw in a very small amount left over meat if you have some and you haven't enough to do something else with. Few frozen peas. Soy sauce.

Homemade pizza. Again can use left overs as toppings.
