Frozen mash made with butter, with grated strong cheddar, black pepper and chopped spring onions.

Yum!

Tinned Heinz spaghetti hoops on well buttered toast

Creamy mashed potatoes with petits pois and grated cheddar cheese 😋

Crisp dinner. Whole big bag of cool original Doritos is the best

You beat me to it. A 150g bag of ridged paprika crisps is my favourite. Lidl's own brand cheese and onion will do if the budget is tight.

Potato wedges, beans and cheese.
Easy, cheap and comforting.
Only issue now is oven for wedges - so maybe air fryer? I don’t have one so would go with fried potatoes of some sort instead - crushed and fried new, or parboiled and fried chunks.

Cheese and onion tattie bake, served with cowboy beans (additional but a family fab)

homemade pizza

HangOnToYourself · 03/09/2022 12:58

Homemade lentil daal and white rice for me. Or if I'm feeling lazy I have spaghetti tuna and cheese, it was my childhood comfort food

Serialweightwatcher · 03/09/2022 12:59

I hope this isn't replying to anyone specific, I can't fathom app on phone, sorry.

I love pitta pizza ... Just frozen pitta (so they don't go off) with puree, cheese and sometimes ham airfried for 4 mins.

Homemade lentil soup done in pressure cooker for 35 mins, then let steam release naturally for around 20 and blend:. Saute 2 chopped onions and 2 large chopped carrots, add 2 cups rinsed red split lentils, heaped teaspoon cumin, 2 tbsps marigold vegetable bouillon, 6 or 7 cups of water. When blended I sometimes mix some milk through to thin it out. Be aware when stored in the fridge it will go solid but i reheat it in the microwave and then add a bit more milk or water to thin it out. It's gorgeous and coats your innards ☺️

Egg on toast. Love it.

DeepDown12 · 03/09/2022 13:00

Tomato soup is our comfort food. Sometimes with toast, sometimes just with a little sprinkle of grated parmigiano.

LordNelsonsPigStatues · 03/09/2022 13:01

Spaghetti with veggie sauce. It comes from playing The Sims I think lol, it was always one of the first meals they could make and I had to try it, loved it ever since!

Put on a pot of spaghetti to cook while you make the sauce. Basically whatever veg you’ve got hanging about in the fridge. I usually use carrots, celery and onion, chop roughly and fry off til soft (ish) throw in some garlic for the last 2-3 mins then a good squeeze of tomato purée and stir. Add a pinch of sugar or sweetener to counter the acidity of the tomatoes we’re about to add.

I use a nutri bullet for the next bit but you can use any food processor or hand blender, or not bother blending it at all if you prefer. I half fill the bullet with cold chopped toms (have to wait for it to cool otherwise and as it’s a comfort dish speed is usually my priority over procedure) then add half/most of the veggies and blend till smooth.

Add the smooth sauce back in the pan with the last bit of cooked veg and stir to warm the toms through. Add salt and pepper, then herbs if you like, I grow basil in the garden so usually chuck on a handful of that.

Pile it high in a large pasta bowl and go at it like a pig in a trough. It’s so simple and easy to do, there’s loads of ways to customise it if you like, this is just how I seem to like it best when I feel Ill or low or whatever. Quick, easy, cheap and very satisfying x

Ooh yeah they’re good. I liked the KFC ones when they were around too. Also have a thing for bacon rasher crisps, Tesco own brand 150g bag are good.

Potato Waffle sandwich. Cook them in the toaster in a few minutes.

Ooh yes I do this - I also sometimes top the waffle with cheese, lettuce and mayo and then it feels like a burger 😋

I've also been known to just eat a waffle out of the toaster like it's a slice of toast 😆

Pbbananabagel · 03/09/2022 13:11

On the weekend I do a full bag of pasta and divide it into two big traybakes. That becomes two of the following:

Mac (or other pasta) n cheese n bacon
Pasta in tomato with ham and mozzerella
Chicken in creamy mozzerella sauce with rosemary, thyme and nutmeg
"Meat feast" pasta in tomato sauce with cheese and salami/chorizo/ham

Stick in the oven during the week with a garlic bread and it's quick, filling, usually has leftovers for lunch and oh so soothing.

Great idea, could you share recipes please?

American style potato hash. Fry up some bacon till crispy, chop into small pieces and set it aside. Then I cut potatoes into small cubes and throw them all into a frying pan with butter, finely diced onion, sweetcorn, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, pinch of cayenne seasoning. Keep tossing and frying for 20 mins or so and then re-add the bacon. When nearly done, I push the potatoes aside to make a couple of small spaces and crack a couple of eggs in. Cover and let sit until the eggs are cooked. Sprinkle little mozzarella and parsley over the top and serve.

To liven things up, I sometimes add diced peppers, chopped up sausage, chicken, chorizo, etc.

I’m with @YourWinter Comfort food should be quick and nothing beats cheese sandwich, and without this grated nonsense - proper big pieces of cheese.
I also butter my toast a lot before putting cheese on. Just had one actually and it’s life changing!

Skinnermarink · 03/09/2022 13:56

Potato waffles and anything that needs using up lobbed on top. Just had one with roast chicken scraps and pesto and cheddar. Brie and ham is amazing. Marmite and Red Leicester. Not much won’t go on top of a waffle.

my go to hangover comfort is a bowl of ready salted crisps, bit of cream cheese and paprika lobbed on top and microwaved for 25 seconds.
