One of my favourite lunches is a tin of cream of tomato soup - 49p in Lidl - and one of those big pretzels from the Lidl bakery - 45p.

Creamy mashed potatoes with petits pois and grated cheddar cheese 😋

This but sweetcorn mixed in, not peas😍

Pasta, beans and cheese 😋

The student food of dreams! Best with a liberal shaking off Lee and Perins

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/09/2022 14:39

A homemade macaroni/cauliflower cheese combo. Extra cheese and breadcrumbs on top, whack under the grill to brown. Heaven.

velvetvixen · 03/09/2022 14:42

I was told of chips covered with tinned tomato soup. Northern comfort food I think

For 'comfort' jacket potato is quick (microwave) and it works. Any potatoes not necessarily the premium price big ones,
Our frugal meals is a base of various beans and or lentils. Buy big packs at Asian or Polish shops.
Soak the beans separately overnight until some give in them. Rinse bring to boil and simmer in pressure cooker. Then high pressure or rapid boil.
Add left overs of meat and add chopped veg like carrot and onions.
Knorr cubes to suit. Simmer until ready to eat.
We have 3 frozen blocks of this that were made when we had slow cooked Ham Hock.
The Ham Hock and roast veg is not expensive.

Lazy:

  • cheese toastie and Heinz tomato soup
  • jacket potatoes with cheese and coleslaw
  • 'proper' bread with Lurpak and lemon curd
  • pasta pesto
Not lazy: veggie shepherds pie dahl and chapatis homemade lentil soup or leek and potato soup veggie chilli veggie sausage casserole potato, cheese and leek bake rice pudding with a good skin, ideally to be eaten with plums cooked in red wine or port

Scrambled eggs on toast, the toast must be "trashy bread" and sopping in butter

7catsisnotenough · 03/09/2022 14:49

Really thick buttery parsley sauce with loads of petits pois - not peas! Love it 😍

LorW · 03/09/2022 14:53

Defo cauliflower cheese, I buy a £1.20 bag of frozen cauliflower, 50p cheese sauce mix and a £2 pack of grated cheddar (probs use half the pack) and it makes enough for 2 generous bowls 😁

YessicaHaircut · 03/09/2022 14:55

Chicken noodle soup. I use this recipe: www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/chicken-noodle-soup/amp

I always make it when I feel poorly and it’s so comforting. To make it super cheap you can leave out the meat and just use chicken stock, noodles and veg, still tastes great.

I do a meal we call pesto rice.

Enough rice for however many people. Get that on to cook.

In a pan, mix a whole large jar of pasta sauce with 2 tins of tuna, a whole jar of pesto and a good handful of grated cheese and as much garlic as you like.

Dump that on the rice, give it a stir and it makes a lovely, warming soupy Thing. If you're feeling fancy, put some naan bread on the side of scooping.

Start to finish is 15 minutes.

A tomato based pasta sauce jar and a jar of green pesto? Or red pesto?

Aswad · 03/09/2022 15:04

Jacket potato, cheese, butter. If you can take it up a notch, chop up some onions and mix it with tuna and coleslaw.

PetraBP · 03/09/2022 15:05

Super noodles with baked beans and grated cheese.

Dont Judge me…

Passmethecrisps · 03/09/2022 15:06

Egg chopped up in a cup served with buttered white toast. I fancy it right now

evilharpy · 03/09/2022 15:16

Cheese and chutney on toast
Or a couple of hot sausages in a demi baguette with bbq sauce

IncessantNameChanger · 03/09/2022 15:18

Cheesy bacon pasta with brocoli. Costs less than 50p a head. Everyone loves it.

Even cheaper carbonara and takes less time to cook

Chouetted · 03/09/2022 15:26

Cheesy brand

rainwilder · 03/09/2022 15:55

I call it sweet and sour toast. Two slices of buttered toast, one with raspberry jam and one with marmite. I alternate bites between the two. Delicious. I know it's weird but I'm not ashamed😆

FlimFlam2 · 03/09/2022 15:56

StolenWillowTree · 03/09/2022 11:57

People always find this weird or gross, but toasted tomato puree and cheese sandwiches.

Not weird. In Poland they have zapiekanka - halved french stick toastie with ketchup on top (and sometimes additional toppings). It's like a pizza made with bread.

WellTidy · 03/09/2022 15:58

Sliced banana on white bread toast with butter.

Or salt and vinegar walkers crisps sandwich with butter in white bread, or a white bread roll.

So not nutritious but my favourites.

FlimFlam2 · 03/09/2022 16:04

Spaghetti with butter and salt (and sometimes peas)
Tomato soup with angel hair pasta
Potato pancakes
Fried leeks on buttery toast (must be a good loaf from the bakery) - eat this once a week probably, it's SO good.

Skinnermarink · 03/09/2022 16:04

Ravioli with melted butter and sage.

onwardandupwards · 03/09/2022 16:09

Tiger bread with lots of butter, salt and a fried egg on top! X
