Businessmen train wankers

AIBU to think that if you're on a train going out of London and you know there's like a billion tunnels and zero phone signal, you don't sit there on the phone like a self important wanker ringing everyone in your contacts and saying 'have I lost you again'.....'yah, been in London with clients'.....'hello, can you hear me? on repeat for the entire frickin journey?

Also, angry typer and crisp cruncher can also fuck off.

Now where did I put my airpods?

Everyone has airpods!!

They really don’t. The wankery with AirPods isn’t so much having them but referring to them by brand name.

Like someone I know who refers to his watch as his Rolex.

On a side note, since when did a PowerPoint presentation become a "slide deck"? This makes me cringe as much as anything else

Blimey, don’t pull that thread (I totally agree with you but was firmly put in my place on another thread by people insisting it has been like this for thirty years)

HandbagsnGladrags · 03/09/2022 09:45

@SandieCollins I wouldn't put airpods in the same category as a Rolex but I take your point!

I'll never forget when actual cellphones were first a thing for the very rich, some twat getting out his phone on the central line at White City and starting a performance conversation IN FRENCH for the benefit of everyone in the carriage. My toes needed a week to uncurl after that.

I remember in the early days of mobile phones I walked into the bar of a very fancy London hotel prepared to sit with a book waiting to meet my always late friend for a drink. I had a quick look around to see if friend was already there (I didn't have a mobile phone...) and realised that Mick Jagger was sitting at the bar alone (he looked smaller & more insignificant than I would have imagined him to look somehow so it took me a minute but it was very definatley him)
He was looking tectchy to be alone & started a loud performance convo on his mobile. Then it rang. I snorted loudly, he looked up & looked daggers at me :)

I've twice overheard a group of colleagues discussing their suppliers in such detail that, after clicking their ID badges, I could pass on info to the sales guys at my employer that made us able to tailor an approach to exactly fit their needs and secure them as a new client.

Many years ago I used the Lichfield to Coventry train. One carriage, one service a day. Became friends with the other passengers to the extent that when the service was cancelled due to the overheating rails thing, we car shared instead. The guard (same guy every day) used to spot if you were running late and pegging it down the car park / over the bridge, and hang on for you. Was a lovely couple of years!

Trying to impress strangers? That's strange. They must be scared to being seen as low status.

Interestingly, I read recently that (studies have found) right wingers are more fearful than left wingers.

sheenapunk · 01/10/2022 17:41

should read "scared of", not scared to!

On one train journey, a train wanker gave his phone number out so when I got off the train I texted him to tell him he was being a prat.

I’d love to have seen his reaction, looking around the carriage.

Can’t remember his reply but it was very pompous and slightly flirty which was weird. Bleurgh.

Genius!!!

nonstoprenovation · 01/10/2022 18:19

I travel in first class and get glared at by the men, like I'm not allowed in their space. It amuses me no end.

I've also noticed the guard will always ask me first for tickets please, the bias is there in spades.

I don't own AirPods, can't fold newspapers and don't create "slide decks" I also sit and look out of the window like the most perfect train guest.

balalake · 01/10/2022 18:22

@nonstoprenovation if you are always being asked first in first class, you should shame the rail company or contact them.
