Do you care that Liz Truss had an affair?

On the one hand, I feel that it's her own business, but on the other, I want a PM I can look up to, who I can trust, who has dignity. After Boris, after his endless lies, Truss doesn't inspire the integrity that I want to see in my country's leader. AIBU?

No. That's her business.

Abhannmor · 01/09/2022 11:40

Yes @KnowtheBand but there's a huge conflict of interest if the guy you had a scene with is working for you in the Cabinet. That's my only problem with eg Major and Curry.

I didn't know Truss was a serial player though. She probably can't remember , not a great attention span.

Arenanewbie · 01/09/2022 12:43

I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone with enough life experience to be PM who hasn't had affairs.
I don’t think affairs and life experience go together and a lot of people go through life not having affairs even in high pressure jobs.

Not very many IME. They're often quite good at it and don't get caught or , as often seems to happen in political marriages, it's all with tacit agreement, but I don't think many people live an entire lifetime without some infidelity.

I would have been shocked at that idea when I was younger, but not now, having worked in these environments for 40 years.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 01/09/2022 12:52

I'm sure there have been MANY high profile Westminster couplings that would have us gaping.

FlorettaB · 01/09/2022 12:54

I just hope that the office furniture is thoroughly cleaned.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 01/09/2022 13:00

Wasn't there a newspaper investigation into drug taking in the HoC recently and it was discovered that nearly everywhere tested positive for coke residue and the smell of weed is no stranger to those corridors. I'm not sure it's a workplace where rules are strictly observed, so of course they're all rutting away post fancy subisdised boozy lunch and post lunch sniff of coke.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination What is your issue with Rishi if you don't mind me asking?

She’s a Tory, it’s standard behaviour. It’s also blatantly obvious that she’s shagged her way to where she is now.

’It’s also blatantly obvious that she’s shagged her way to where she is now.’

Why would you say that?

I can't stand Liz Truss, but that's a very misogynistic thing to say.

Because she is beyond dim and has the personality of a dying sloth.

True though!

FlorettaB · 01/09/2022 13:22

Chris Grayling? No one’s accused him of that. I wonder why …

CaptainThe95thRifles · 01/09/2022 13:24

Of all the aspects of Liz Truss I'm concerned about, her personal life is way down the list.

That's really misogynistic.

Nobody would say that about a man.

Anothernamechangeplease · 01/09/2022 13:24

Hintofreality · 01/09/2022 13:21

True though!

I'm not convinced that it is. There are plenty of incompetent men at or near the top of the Tory party. So you believe that they all slept their way to the top as well?

Nobody ever says this shit about men.

That's really insulting to moribund sloths.

The same is true of the men!

FanFckingTastic · 01/09/2022 13:25

I don't care that Liz Truss has had an affair. As long as it is outside the workplace, who MPs want to shag is entirely their own affair, just as it would be in any other job. I also don't think that we should hold Liz to a higher moral standard than her male counterparts either, and as a nation we were clearly willing to accept the multiple affairs that Boris had without a blink.

LexMitior · 01/09/2022 13:26

This is depressing - I may not like Truss but I don't think her sex life is that relevant. Judge her on what she does, not who she has sex with. Isn't that what anyone on this thread would want for themselves.

Politicians having sex with each other shock - you have not been paying attention.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 01/09/2022 13:27

I love when she's asked a slightly tricky question that isn't about cheese or 'woke nonsense' and you can see this image as you peer into her panicked eyes.

We need a PM with some integrity, if someone engages in an affair they don’t have the best moral compass do they?

For the most important job in the country they absolutely should be held to a higher standard than the general public, male or female.

Honestly, I'm no fan of the woman - but prepared to reserve judgement until we see what she actually does in office - but when asked "do you believe trans women are women?" and she said "no", I cheered.

OK, she's not trying to please the same demographic as the Labour Party and so she can afford to be honest on this subject because the kind of people who would have her burned at the stake for not believing trans women are women want to burn her at the stake anyway, whereas the kind of people whose opinions she cares about agree with her.

But I've lost so much respect for the Labour Party being completely unable to explain what a woman is, and claiming that if a male person takes enough estrogen they can grow a cervix, that it's made me feel like I don't really care who is in power and I can't be bothered to vote anymore. I've wanted the Tories out for years but if the only alternative is that bunch of lunatics I just can't drum up any real interest in who is in power because I think they're all mad and dangerous.

Name a prime minister within your living memory that was worthy, someone you felt able to look up to with respect. Someone you trusted who you felt had the peoples interests at heart. <Ill wait>

Gordon Brown.
