To ask what has made you cringe lately on social media?

  1. Ex colleague making a video of herself recounting an episode that she had in the shower after seeing a spider in there. Still wrapped up in towels she was and clearly just wanted lots of attention, likes and laughs.
  2. One of my colleagues is with a guy who she thinks craps rainbows even though many of us find him arrogant and rude. She posts photos of herself looking up at him in a simpering and submissive way and it's truly cringeworthy.
  3. Mll lady who says she can now retire her husband, how she is the luckiest girl in the world and posts everyday about how blessed she is and how everyone else can be just like her if they say 'yes' to the opportunity of selling her products.

This thread feels mean. I used to think this way about internet over-sharers but since the loss of my dad I can relate to people who post messages about overwhelming grief.

Social media is an outlet. You can’t tell ppl how to use it and they shouldn’t be ashamed for expressing themselves. It is actually very liberating to not care what others think of you. If Britney wants to spin in circles then let her. If someone wants to declare their undying love to the person sat next to them scratching his balls on the sofa then so what? let there be second of love in this depressing world.

Maybe ask yourself what is it about witnessing another person sharing their feelings and emotions that makes you either cringe, disbelieve it, automatically jump to the negative or tear that person down? Maybe think about how you manage your own feelings and emotions and if you rather be the over-sharer or the cringer?

I agree with this.

Aussiegirl123456 · 01/04/2023 09:02

I agree too. Not because I share anything but I really don’t care what anyone posts. And I’d I do, I mute or delete them. Actually I don’t really use any social media apart from mumsnet so probably why I’m not so triggered?

The only thing I do disagree with is over sharing personal info about children.

But if you want to wish your dead relative happy birthday or share your dinner pics then why not?

lollipoprainbow · 01/04/2023 09:54

An Instagram acquaintance who constantly boasts about her amazing child/husband/home/life etc. Her Mother's Day haul was very ott. Champagne, chocs, plants, paintings etc. urgh. I got a card!!

donttellmehesalive · 01/04/2023 09:54

I think I'd rather be the cringer than the over sharer. Nobody knows I'm cringing because I do it silently, in my head, and it's forgotten as soon as I scroll past. But the over sharer has their nonsense in the public domain forever.

I don't think I'm mean. I like holiday photos, big news announcements, nice days out. I don't mind a bit of bragging because mostly I'm pleased for my friends and family when they've got something to brag about. Really, it's involuntary cringing, like a visceral reaction beyond my control, when this person posts about the latest minor academic achievement in her dc's lives. If she's friends with other parents in her kids' classes, I hope they're the same otherwise she must drive them mad.

Valerie65 · 01/04/2023 11:03

Social media is full of "cringe" posts & not much else. You are always going to find someone who finds a post cringey. I take the view that if its not hurting anyone else, & you're only making yourself look silly what harm is it. If you don't like it just scroll on by, which i have done many a time. When someone offers to pay my Internet bill for me then they can say what should & shouldn't be posted.
Incidentally, what would people like to see on sm instead?

Aussiegirl123456 · 01/04/2023 11:36

Oh actually to add, there’s this woman at my child’s school who sells MLM. She’s a bully to everyone who has previously worked for her/who she recruited for MLM. Yet promotes so much “be kind” and “I’m just a woman empowering other women” etc.

Anyway, I follow her on instagram but hadn’t been on there for months and months. The day I went on, she posted (several that day) posts as being in Los Angles, loads of videos of herself being in LA (but in a “hotel” not out and about). Claiming how she was working hard and missing her kids, but enjoying LA. Yet she walked past me in the shopping mall that very day. In Australia.

She also makes loads of reels about herself and how wonderful she is, just countless selfies of herself with mad music telling us all she’s a queen and boss.

She also has posted many videos of herself ugly crying to sad song, but the video ends up with her happy because she’s a boss who has worked hard through all the tears.

Yea, that very say I spent a good hour scrolling/stalking her page!

PinkRiceKrispies · 01/04/2023 13:06

I hate the MLM posters on FB. The 'Just say yes' posts because your life will transform once you take this opportunity.
The being able to be there for the kids 24/7. So dull...everyday the same thing.

Strawberrydelight78 · 21/05/2023 17:48

Those people that shove a phone in they're autistic child's face when they're having a meltdown. I have an autistic son and daughter myself and would never do that to them. Apart from it not doing anything to help. They also can't consent to you doing it. It's unfair to post them in such a vulnerable emotional state when people will obviously mock them. Then they bite back saying they're getting trolled and won't have it they are using they're child for attention and likes. Should be a law on it.

Fella on tiktok called snapshot eye.

He does dances and you can pay for a cameo off him.

He's 42 and so fucking cringey

Came on to say Paul Breech 🤣

The ick is so so strong, but I always have to watch.

Hi.

SunsetsInVenice · 21/05/2023 18:23

Guy posting this one continuous photo of him and his partner. Her kissing him, it's been posted to death now and it's a really cringy photo.

Those parents who constantly post updates of their kid. Like 'A month ago today ' or 'Today, Bubbs is 9 months! Happy 9 month birthday my baby'

Hi.

@DannyLaRuesBestFrock hasn't recently been exposed as a paedophile?

myusernamewastakenbyme · 23/05/2023 08:20

Tiny Tim with his annoying voice and stupid face...also the crying nurse during covid...and the really annoying woman who copies models outfits and poses.....just not funny.

Gingernan · 12/11/2023 03:37

Those posts on Facebook where you are encouraged to comment 'Amen' and the 'Let's see who my real friends are' and you are asked to copy and paste and comment 'Done'.
People who say things like 'badass'.

Southoftheriver32 · 12/11/2023 04:02

Posts from women claiming they have the best husband/partner and they love them so much. It’s like they are validating to themselves and the world that everything is great when these relationships are usually very much heading south.

Gingernan · 12/11/2023 04:10

Pictures of naked baby bumps, week by endless week, and the 'Beautiful hun 'comments.
Just put a small tent on like your granny did!

Gingernan · 12/11/2023 04:19

Pouty selfies! 'Beautiful hun'!
Have friends who do that and I'm not brave enough to say that they look better without all the gunge on their faces.
Have basically turned into my nan, it's the age!

SoFuckingTired · 12/11/2023 06:08

I'm not sure why the 'heavenly birthday' posts wind others up so much. Almost 2 years since I lost my DF and its anniversaries like that that make me think of him and miss him more. I haven't personally posted any 'heavenly birthday' messages but may do this year as he should have been celebrating a milestone birthday. Personally when I see those posts it's a heads up that my friend is feeling sad and I can check in on them 🤷‍♀️

The idea that social media sharers don’t care what others think of them Hmm Grin

Zanatdy · 12/11/2023 08:29

People complaining about people using social media to wish ‘dead people’ happy birthday etc. You know what, people want to keep the memory of their loved one alive. Maybe those complaining have never lost a parent, a husband / wife or a child. I posted about it being my dad’s birthday last week, it’s been nearly 5yrs now and until I posted that I never spoke to anyone about it, I wanted to recognise it would have been his birthday. But it’s not, as he’s gone. If that p’s someone off then they are welcome to delete me. What a nasty thing to say

Absolutely, it’s really hard on the anniversary of a death or birthday’s of loved one’s. I’d also check in on a friend who had posted that, rather than sit there in judgment like some posters on here

LadyMacB · 12/11/2023 08:34

Any video where someone is filming themselves sitting in their car, doing a monologue, crying.

Cojer · 12/11/2023 09:17

Someone I know posts endless pictures of themselves from the back in a thong and sports bra. Supposedly to show off their muscles but she just gets loads of creepy men commenting. I'd rather die than do that.

Greenpolkadot · 12/11/2023 09:19

AYearOfCushions · 28/08/2022 17:30

Someone is doing a partner appreciation challenge on Facebook at the moment where you have to post a pic and spiel every day.

A close up selfie of their massive faces every day with a big gushing text about how they're each other's rock blah blah and that's every day, for 7 days. One included something about their sexual energy and another was about how great a daddy he is to her daughters.

For reference, they've been together 3-4 months.

Sounds a bit vomitous
