Because flat "smart" shoes look so weird and crap on me.

But I can't wear heels as will have a lot of walking around campus.

It's been YEARS since I worked in a "smart" office.

What do you guys wear on your feet with skirts and dresses please?

Are sandals ok?

Private hospital office - a very posh one.

First day I'll do black trousers and black flat loafers. But the black loafers look so twattish with skirts and dresses.

Heeled ankle boots.

@Maireas I have tried countless shoes like these, in fact far nicer than any of these and they do not suit me, they are all too chunky, the only ones I'd remotely consider are the pink LK Bennett's. Not sure why you find it so hard to believe, some people just don't suit some things, if I said I can't wear orange or pleats you wouldn't find it so hard to fathom!

Low heel, comfortable, nice looking leather ankle boots. I live in them from October to April!!

Prior pair I got in Ecco, took me ages to find latest pair, but I picked up a gorgeous pair on sale at start of summer in LK Bennet outlet store, and as soon as I purchased them I saw another great pair in Kurt Grieger so I bought them too 😊

Make sure you walk around in them and that they are soft and comfortable.

I just wear flats. Have done for years. Used to have heels at work to change into but no longer have my own desk so no more heels for me!

I work in legal sector.

Everyone wears black heels in court, but aside from that it's flats or boots.

Wearing heels for a normal office job seems very old fashioned to me and I am mid fifties.

Try Gabor? Not read whole thread. Smart comfortable, low heels (apols if someone has already suggested)

I'd say no sandals for a very upmarket office, they look less professional.

On my office days I wear loafers or boots, depending upon what I've got on. You can get smart looking ones that go with dresses or trousers, I've got some patent loafers with tassels that are more comfortable than ballet flats, and they look smarter too. I've also got Chelsea boots, which look nice with anything.

Just came back to mention how important it is, to wear shoes which are comfortable. One measure is that you can wiggle your toes freely when wearing them. Another is that you don't need to do anything in order to keep the shoes on, no cramping toes etc.

I'm not sure why we have so many shoes for sale which do not meet this simple requirement. Where we have learned to accept that shoes are uncomfortable. That how they look is so much more important than how they feel.

Reading about foot binding in China, I thought all that was in the past. To some extend, we continue the practise, doing it to ourselves nowadays in the name of lovely looking shoes.

Watching with interest.
I can get away with structured sandals in the summer but for autumn and winter - what then?

Boots are your friend

Get flat pointed ballet pumps - they'll elongate your leg and look fine with skirts and dresses
