Or is behaviour at all inclusive hotels hilarious?

So in the last 2 months, I've been to Dubai, Cyprus and Jamaica, and now I'm in Greece, and 3/4 of those have been all inclusive hotels.

I've got to admit, and I'm as guilty as any, but it's so weird just observing behaviour at all inclusive hotels!

Getting up and starting to drink cheap and sugary cocktails straight away!

Piling 3 plates full at the buffets.

Getting up for 6.30am to nab a subbed before they all run out.

There are probably so many more but I'm just sat at breakfast, after going to get a second full breakfast (though I've had a gastric bypass so it is all relative) and it's made me chuckle.

I'd love to read any other weird behaviours typical of all inclusive holidays!

This is LIGHT HEARTED for those who soon enough will tell me I'm judgemental haha.

Lounger* 😅

BellePeppa · 28/08/2022 18:56

I never understand why people pile their plates up with a mountain of food when they’re at buffets you can keep going back to! That’s weird to me. I like All Inclusives but they have to be minimum 4*, I’ve seen the documentaries on cheap AI and they’re very off putting. Not that I can afford holidays anymore 😐

xippo · 28/08/2022 18:18

we go to proper 5* AI, sun-beds are managed by the pool people, always can get a bed.
don't see people with plates piled high, unless its Americans, who pile fruit, full English and pastries on one plate.
cheap AI is always full of very fat people who go on holiday just to eat.

You sound nice.

I've never been to a holiday with sunloungers but I'd most likely just neatly fold the towel up and set it aside if it was not being used for ages and I needed a plunger.

I would love to do this but I’m like @Frazzledstar1 and haven’t been brave enough to! 😆 We haven’t been abroad since before covid though, the last time wasn’t that type of holiday and the 2 before that the hotel removed towels from loungers that weren’t in use. If it happens on our next holiday I might brave doing this!

shiningstar2 · 28/08/2022 19:12

RMW 12. You are so right. There should be some definite way of dealing with this. Maybe half of available sun beds on a ticket basis and a morning free for all for the other half with towels taken away by a certain time. From my experience the Ai guests do stay around. I am much too mean to pay again elsewhere for the whole family to eat and drink very often when this as already been paid for. I would guess that many of those reserving and going off site are the BB or half board people. I know we go off site far more when we have taken one of these options because our intention is for a more exploring type of holiday. Of course we would never reserve a bed when going out. From my observations on my rare AI holidays, it is often other guests who saunter down to a sunbed they've kept all day at about 4.00 and profess astonishment if their towels have been moved. Oh dear, I was looking forward to next year's family holiday including teen grandchildren but I feel the tension mounting already at the idea of not being able to have what has already been paid for. I think grandma and grandad will be sauntering off site rather than sit on our balcony looking at all those towel covered empty beds, hearing judgemental comments from those strangely convinced that those who've paid upfront for all their parties food and drink absolutely must be the ones selfishly hogging beds they don't want 😁 If that's the case there must be an awful lot of people happy to pay twice with a better budget than me 😁

Ifrozethehoumous · 28/08/2022 19:18

Yep in the Caribbean many folks get 2/3 breakfasts and some like their plates full with sweet pancakes, bacon and baked beans - all piled up think that’s a trans-Atlantic habit. Also some have flasks that take about 3 pints of beer and fill them right up at the bar, then stand in the sea and drink. One year the bar ran out of beer because of this!

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 28/08/2022 19:19

I always thought that about AI - until I went to a beautiful high end hotel in lush gardens which offered AI. This included branded spirits, imported wines etc. And the AI snacks between meals we’re things like grilled salmon and roasted vegetables; cheese platter; fruit platter - as well as the usual burgers, chips, pizza etc. I remain absolutely staggered to this day at how moderate, even abstemious, people’s consumption habits were. Maybe at the very high end AI means something g different t . (But unfortunately I was not abstemious or moderate)

Don’t start worrying already or let it put you off your holiday! Hopefully your hotel will be one that removes the towels when they’re not in use. This is why towel reservers irritate me so much, they create unnecessary tension in a place where people should be relaxing and have most likely been looking forward to all year. As I said the last 2 sun lounger type holidays we were on, the hotel removed the towels so we always got ones but you could see the towels being left and the staff having to waste their time going round checking and then checking again that they were still there and not in use. Then removing them and having to deal with the guests coming up to retrieve them. Such a waste of everyone’s time!

phishy · 28/08/2022 19:30

Presumably the towels removed by staff then just go into the wash piles, and the guests just get more towels.

So much unnecessary washing. And all because of goggers.

Bib1234 · 28/08/2022 19:36

Mind your own business - you have the luxury of being on your 4th holiday so can take everything in your stride (plus with a gastric bypass you can’t/shouldn’t consume huge amounts and probably don’t have the appetite or space for it)
meanwhile everyone else is making the most of their one trip away, probably the first in a long time and goodness knows when the next is.
You come across judgemental and entitled more so because you’ve listed everywhere you’ve been whilst judging others

SofiaSoFar · 28/08/2022 19:37

I remember seeing a Twitter post with a video diary of the specific 'all inclusive' behaviour someone was witnessing on their holiday.

One of the replies summed it up perfectly for me, "What in the Live, Love, Laugh is going on there?!"

You just know the type of people... 😂

LadyHelenaJustina · 28/08/2022 19:42

We’ve been twice. I love AI because it’s 2 weeks where I don’t have to ever think about feeding the children, so feels like a real break. My partner does not, sadly, so the likelihood of going again is slim.

Oh, and I’m happy to start on the weak beer at 10am. Feel free to judge me 😁

Maryminx · 28/08/2022 19:48

The most worrying thing is that u had 2 full breakfasts after having a gastric bypass!

shiningstar2 · 28/08/2022 19:50

Thank you RMW 12. You are right I shouldn't get concerned yet. The holiday is necessarily in the high season school holidays which makes these things a bit of a lottery. It is also the last holiday abroad we will probably take with the family and AI seemed a good idea because of teen activities when I booked it. As grandparents wanting to be around the teens in a happy atmosphere we thought it would be great to watch/ encourage their activities and give them easy choices for lunch/snacks ect which didn't depend on us all going out together in the heat of lunch time finding somewhere which suits us all.We certainly don't want to 'pile our plates up' as seems 'typical' on here, just have a chilled, Mon argumentative week together 😁. I do appreciate you taking the time to reassure me it will all be ok. I am getting braver as I get older so maybe I will get over my typically British politeness and do a bit of complaining if we come across these strange people who think their desire for a bed at 4.00 after a day out superceded other people's desire to spend the day around the pool. 💐

Solonge · 28/08/2022 19:56

Just back from a lovely week in Cyprus with my DH, our DS his DP and their two kids, a TUI resort in Nissi beach and all inclusive. I’m teetotal, my DS rarely drinks, his partner rarely drinks and the kids are under 7. The only ones going a bit mad were the kids with puddings….we ate loads of fresh fruit at every meal…but it was bloody hot and does anyone want to over feed in 35 degrees? I think I OD’d on fizzy water….but everyone had kids so getting pissed not really an option…no babysitting at resort.

Snowflakeslayer · 28/08/2022 20:48

My idea of hell. Can think of nothing worse than chavvy all-inclusive hotels. Surely if you are travelled you know what it will be like??
yawn……

janj2301 · 28/08/2022 20:50

35 years ago we went to one of the original AIs Club Med on Bali. As much wine as you could drink, I think I managed 2 glasses before throwing up, not all Frenh wine is good. They would not leave us alone to sit by the pool they kept trying to get us to join in, then when my mum in law and I took a cab to see the sights they threatened to lock us out

inaminute23 · 28/08/2022 21:26

@Maryminx please read my response to the last person who wanted to judge and pass comment on what I ate.

I don't have to defend myself, but I said I had 2 plates. I had a little bit, waited to let it settle then had a little more. I clearly didn't have the size breakfast of somebody who hasn't had 85% of their stomach removed.

But thanks for your totally unnecessary concern Wink

It’s like the business class/ frequent flyer lounges at airports. All the bottles of spirits are lined up along the side for people to help themselves to and barely anyone touches them.

But if you go into one of those lower end lounges which people can pay to use, they keep the bottles behind the bar, because people start drinking as soon as they walk in the door.

You do know Hyacinth is a comedy character not a role model don't you?

Hyacinth would never call herself a raging snob.

Sumthingsweet · 28/08/2022 22:20

Why not focus on yourself and enjoying your holidays rather than worrying about what others are doing ? Actually posting about it , are you that bored ?

AnnieSnap · 28/08/2022 22:23

It’s this sort of behaviour that means I avoid all inclusive. Like @Pacca I know I’m a bit of a snob and, neither I or DH drink, so I think that would make it even worse 😲

supersop60 · 28/08/2022 22:31

I have never been on an AI holiday. I'm 62.
I can post this on that other thread

This is explained in basic business economic classes. It isn't complicated, and it isn't caused by any "weakness" in character, or whatever you seem to be inferring.
